CONTACT/TEAM PREFERENCES

A comment separate from your app with your name, email, and team preferences. Making it a separate comment lets us keep it screened, thus keeping your team preferences private.

For the time zone field, feel free to make a note if working bizarre hours makes you effectively on a different time zone than stated.

"Team preferences" is a catch-all field for any thoughts you might have regarding your character's placement. For example, you might want a team that will put up with your character's sociopathy, or has a certain "feel" to it, or is friendly to your time zone, or maybe you don't think your character looks good in orange, and so on! This is also the spot to let us know if there are teams you DON'T want to be on. While you're not required to put anything here, don't say you have no preference unless you really, honestly have NOTHING to say on the subject! If you've already apped and realized you'd forgotten something? Make another comment!

Naze Youka || Medaka Box

[personal profile] luckydog 2012-05-03 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Naze Youka (Kurokami Kujira)
Canon: Medaka Box
Reference Link: Medaka Box Wiki: Naze's page

Character History: Born Kurokami Kujira, Kujira was blessed with good looks, a good family, and a good life, all of which she absolutely despised. She believed that true genius was born out of suffering and despair and as such shut herself away from the world, focusing only on her biological (and mostly human) experiments and studies. But she still wasn't able to reach the level of suffering she desired and eventually ran away from home, changing her name to Naze Youka and removing her own memories as a Kurokami through experimentation on herself.
From that point on Naze dedicated herself to leading a horrible life in order to further her successes in biology. Along the way she gained a friend and continuing science experiment, Koga Itami, a normal girl with normal talents and the desire to be abnormal. From Naze's experiments, Koga was changed into an overwhelming fighter and the two eventually ended up at Hakoniwa Academy with Naze taking position as supervisor of the Flask Plan, an underground project dedicated to turning normal humans into perfect beings.
Over the course of the series Naze goes from minor enemy to enemy-turned-ally to main character mentor figure to randomly-appearing-ally, acknowledging that she's a person who actually seeks her own happiness albeit in twisted ways. She's currently serving as Vice-President for the student council.

Personality: Naze is a rude-mouthed, analytical, and slightly cocky girl who will never hold her tongue when it comes to making a snide comment. Her words are generally harsh and blunt, with a very fake-sounding 'playfulness' to them at times that doesn't match her generally stoic expressions and mannerisms. While she doesn't completely follow her previous lifestyle of "the more I suffer, the happier I am," she still hasn't quite given it up, showing more of a preference to unfavorable conditions than favorable ones. She's accepted that she cares about people beyond using them as experimentation projects, but that doesn't mean she'll stop using them as experimentation projects.
She's confident in what she can and can't do and has a slight complex with gaining acknowledgement, particularly when it comes to being better than her older brother, who was also the former supervisor of the Flask Plan. This usually comes out in the form of blatant, indirect fishing for comments (e.g. "who could have been the person to do this they must be amazing we should call them amazing").
As a note, when her face is covered by bandages she speaks differently, assumedly in a harsher tone or manner, as compared to when it's revealed. The rest of her speech mannerisms stay the same though.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Demon Queen Vice-President Naze Youka is enough to satisfy me, but if you can come up with something better then use that.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
No. They're a pain in the ass to put on and there's no point to it.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
Something like a full year in middle school. Or when I first started school again. I did some amazing work back then so somewhere around there I had to be at my lowest.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
My family and most of the people I know now are too do-good to do that kind of thing. If you want the twisted one who'll do that kind of thing with an extraordinary amount of finesse and intelligence, I'm the more likely target, aren't I? Ah, but I can't say that I'll do it for sure anymore, I like some of those guys too much now.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
I've already seen everything there is to on every living animal in existence, so they're dull to me now. Maybe something more exotic like one that doesn't exist anymore, or something new that doesn't exist yet. That could be interesting.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
Not a bit. I work better in a miserable environment.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
Why ask stupid questions? You eat cake with a fork, that's it. What kind of idiot has a favorite?

08. Do you trust yourself?
Of course I do. I'm not some pathetic person who doesn't believe in myself.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Who wants to do a crime that no one knows about? It's better to let everyone see and know just how feared you should be.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
My cute little sister and that perverted older brother might get a little pissed off if I went missing again, but I'm sure that the president will be completely lost without his favored vice president there to guide him.

Nakamori Aoko | Detective Conan/Magic Kaito

[personal profile] fishpanties 2012-05-03 08:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Nakamori Aoko
Canon: Magic Kaito
Reference Link: http://www.detectiveconanworld.com/wiki/Aoko_Nakamori
Character History: Nakamori Aoko had a fairly standard, if lonely, upbringing. Her father—a single parent—was a busy man, after all; he was the head of the Kaitou Kid Taskforce, a police unit dedicated solely to bringing Kaitou Kid, an internationally wanted phantom thief, to justice. One fateful day, when Aoko was just a little girl, she waited all alone for her father by an old clocktower; she was didn't cry, just waited quietly, sadly, in the hopes that he'd have time to come get her. But her father wasn't the one who came. Instead, Kuroba Kaito walked up, introduced himself, and magicked a single rose out of thin air for her. It was the start of a long-lasting, beautiful friendship, full of bickering and violence and secret crushes.

Kaitou Kid ~mysteriously vanished~ when Aoko was nine, thus freeing her father from his arduous task/obsession. But, eight years later… he returned, and Aoko hated him with the fiery, burning passion of a thousand suns. Completely unaware that her dearest childhood friend Kaito was the man behind the monocle, Aoko would stand alone in crowds of cheering Kid fans, waving anti-Kid banners and yelling encouragement to her father. In fact, Aoko went great lengths to prove that Kaito wasn't Kid—when her father told her that he'd seen Kid's face, and that his face was definitely Kaito's, Aoko immediately made plans to drag Kaito out on a date… at exactly the same time as one of Kid's heists. Happily, he remained with her for the entire duration, and suspicion was cleared. She never realized that he slipped away when they were watching a movie, leaving a dummy in his place.

Personality: Aoko is a warm-hearted but temperamental tsundere, who has little trouble expressing her feelings through violence. Mop chases! Table flipping! Newspaper smacking and punching! Not that she'd ever mean to hurt really, truly hurt anybody; as willing as she would be to defend herself, there are lines that she would never cross. As a tsundere with a temper, the people closest to her are the ones who receive the brunt of her anger (especially Kaito, who is an obnoxious jerk). And, as caring and considerate as Aoko is underneath, when Kaito has dental problems, she makes sure to poke him in the cheek. A lot.

Cheerful and energetic, Aoko's pretty passionate about her beliefs—in fact, she's pretty passionate about most things, and incredibly expressive. It's almost as much of a cover as it is genuine: she's overly modest and has some self-esteem issues, and holds a quiet belief that she'll inevitably be left behind. At one point, she decides that a classmate must have a crush on Kaito: Aoko squees and wonders aloud that Kaito must really be great, if somebody as cool and beautiful as Akako likes him. Beneath her smile was resignation and pain. As much as she frequently berates Kaito for his big head, she'd quietly fade into the background rather than risk weighing him down.

She's a very caring young woman, and a determined one. She would always try to help somebody in need, just because she's sure that it's the right thing to do. When a 'ghost' terrorizes her friends at school after hours, she drags Kaito along to get revenge. When she meets a sickly child at a museum during a Kaitou Kid heist, she stays with him and tries to help him find his father. She almost always before she thinks of herself, and, occasionally, she's been known to be too trusting of shady characters.

Writing Sample:
01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Nakamori Aoko~! It's nice to meet you.
02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Mm, unless I'm wearing sandals.
03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
I don't know… Hm, uh, maybe an hour, or two... or three? Who thinks about things like that, anyway?
04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
What…?! No, of course not. Except that one time—but that was Dad, not me!
05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
A really, really big fish. Maybe a tuna. ♥
06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
W-What kind of question is this!? I—I don't know about incapacitated… If somebody was in trouble, or upset, I'd do my best to help them.
07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
A spork, probably! They're really cute.
08. Do you trust yourself?
… Yes..?
09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Um, do you mean a crime I've already committed that nobody else knows about? Hmm, in that case, maybe that one time I popped a wheel on Dad's car and hid all his shoes and keys so he couldn't go into work, except that wasn't a crime because he was being stupid, and I was pretty young... If you mean a crime I could commit, I wouldn't! What a stupid question.
10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
I…
… I hope so.
But I'm not going to disappear, so they won't have to!

Wako Agemaki

[personal profile] laronmi 2012-05-04 08:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Wako Agemaki
Canon: Star Driver
Reference Link: Character | Series

Character History:
Wako discovers that she is one of four maidens—girls who act as seals to prevent giant mecha known as Cybodies from being unleashed on the world—on her home island when she saves a friend named Sugata as a young child. As maidens are forbidden from leaving the island in order to protect the seals, Wako was forced to give up on her dream of being a singer. Although she was initially upset, she quickly dealt with her disappointment and managed to remain optimistic about her fate and burden—something that Sugata was unable to do, as he too was bound to island due to possessing the most powerful Cybody of them all.

She and Sugata became engaged, and the two of them grew up together on the island. One of her other friends, Keito, was also a maiden and also in love in Sugata. The two eventually drifted apart, but with Sugata and her other friends, Wako grew up content and well adjusted, satisfied with her life despite knowing that her dream could never be fulfilled. All of that is changed, however, when a young man named Takuto washes up on the beach. After giving him rescue breathing, she and Sugata quickly became friends with him. To her dismay, Wako found herself falling in love with Takuto despite already being in love with and engaged to Sugata. Worse yet, the Glittering Crux Brigade began to collect and break the seals of the maidens, which meant that Wako was in constant danger.

By the end of the series, all the maidens' seals have been broken, meaning that Wako is finally free to leave, yet the world has surprisingly not been destroyed. Wako ends up admitting to herself that she loves both boys equally, and whatever happens next is unknown because the show decided to end with the two boys floating in space together for an indefinite amount of time.

Personality:
Despite being burdened with being a maiden and not being able to leave the island, she's coped with it a lot better than the other maidens and Sugata. Even with her dream ruined, she still remains upbeat and optimistic, dealing with her disappointment and growing strong from it while never giving up hope. Caring and empathetic, her empathy has her preferring to keep her struggles to herself, not wanting to drag others into her troubles. Yet if she trusts and depends on someone, then she'll have faith in them all the way. She's also fiercely protective of those she loves, and will unflinchingly fight back and do anything in her power to keep them safe.

While Wako may prefer to hide her worries behind a smile, her smile is usually genuine. She's lively and cheerful, loves food, and has a tendency to have wild fantasies. She likes to tease, although never maliciously so. She hasn't given up on her dream of singing, either, and sings often. While modest about her skill, she doesn't mind singing in front of an audience.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Wako, please!

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
No? I don't think I've ever thought about if socks were necessary or not.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
I don't think I talk in my sleep, so eight hours. I could go for longer if there was a reason to.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
Eheh. Not anymore.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
Why an egret? Hm, how about a fox?

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
No. I'd help them instead. Even if I couldn't do much, I'd still try.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
A spoon! Or a fork. You can eat cake with a lot of things, even chopsticks! —Oh, the cake was an example. In that case, anything that gets the food to my mouth is all right with me. I'm not very picky about that sort of thing.

08. Do you trust yourself?
Yes. Sometimes, for the things that matter most, you have to trust yourself and go with your heart.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Won't telling you go against the point? N-not that I've done anything like that!

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
Yes. There's two guys that would definitely miss me, and my friends would, too.

Character Name: Tsunashi Takuto
Canon: Star Driver
Reference Link: DAZZLING THE STAGE!

Character History: Takuto’s mother bore him alone and left him in the care of his paternal grandfather, with his father nowhere in sight - or, rather, the deadbeat dad was stirring up trouble on an island elsewhere. He grew up a rather closed individual, but the death of his friend, Natsuo, opened him up and awoke Takuto to the beauty in the transience of life; he wished to be radiant like Natsuo had been, and proudly “sing out” his youth. This change led to Takuto’s grandfather giving him the Tau mark - instead of his father whom left many years ago - and making him the pilot of a giant robot (Cybody) called Tauburn. This burden and responsibility comes with a formal title: Galactic Pretty Boy.

At the age of 16, Takuto transfers to a high school on Southern Cross Island with the hidden motive of finding his absentee father. Not only does Takuto want to punch him, but stop his father’s group - the Glittering Crux - from using Cybodies to take control of the world. Through a series of ridiculous shenanigans involving swimming to the island and having his life saved by Agemaki Wako, he begins to become closer to both Wako and Shindou Sugata, to whom she is betrothed. The couple carries a great burden, of which Takuto tries to help them through - Wako is one of four maidens, while Sugata is able to pilot the strongest Cybody, and neither can leave the island. Lots of high school antics, mecha battles and moments filled with in-character shipping happen, as Takuto sings out his youth and the awkward love triangle between himself, Wako and Sugata deepens. The point Takuto is taken from is directly after the ending: his father’s plot is stopped, Sugata is saved, Wako and the other maidens are freed from their shackles, and he and Sugata are floating in space while Wako talks about being in love with them both.

Personality: Takuto is called a “pretty boy” for good reason - he’s apparently very attractive and has a natural charisma that draws people towards him (to the point that one could call him the Galactic Gary Stu). He’s very cheerful, outgoing and friendly, showing confidence in his abilities while maintaining a level of humbleness. Still, Takuto is awkward like one would expect a pure-hearted high school boy to be, and shows great discomfort if it involves flirting, kissing and so on. However, he’s a master at covering up his true intentions and thoughts; there can be a lot of struggle behind his bright smile, and there is always more at play than what he lets on. Of course, like many main characters, he carries a sense of justice and believes strongly in protecting the weak and helping people - things his grandfather taught him.

Character Name: Rapunzel
Canon: Tangled
Reference Link: Wiki link and despite the photo given she actually looks like this

Character History: Once upon a time there was a bit of a kerfuffle with a magical healing flower, a possessive witch, and a very ill pregnant Queen. Long story short, the baby princess wound up with the flowers magical powers and was subsequently kidnapped by the witch, Gothel, for 18 years. Her name was Rapunzel and she spent her life imprisoned in a tower, believing Gothel was her mother, and suffered through years of emotional abuse in jaunty song form. However, each year on her birthday, the King and Queen would launch floating lanterns into the sky in hopes that they would show her the way home.

Deciding she wants to see these lights in person on her eighteenth birthday, she tricks Gothel into leaving and blackmails Flynn Rider, a thief who stumbled across her tower looking for a place to hide, into taking her. Though he initially tries to scare her away, the two grow close through a series of wacky antics and beging to trust each other. Just before they reach the kingdom however, Gothel appears and tries to take Rapunzel back home. Failing this, she tricks her into believing Flynn (whose real name is Eugene) has betrayed her. Heartbroken, Rapunzel returns to the tower, only to realise she is the lost princess. She attempts to leave to save Eugene, but Gothel is not on board with this and ties her up.

Luckily Eugene is able to escape thanks to friends they had made earlier in the film; Rapunzel is saved at the cost of her hair, Gothel is dead, and she returns home to be a princess and eventually marry Eugene.

Personality: At her core, Rapunzel is a very lively and cheerful girl. She’s imbued with the natural essence of the sun, this girl is so excitable and perky, it’s hard to keep her down for long. Even through years of emotional abuse at the hands of her mother, Rapunzel remains strong and confident. It takes a bit of pulling to get it out of her, and even she acts surprised when she stands up for herself, but it’s there inside her. She’s a kind and sweet Disney Princess type, friendly to all and has a natural gift with animals. There’s more to Rapunzel than just generic sweetness, however; though she will try honesty first, she’s not adverse to lying and deceiving others to get what she wants. Blackmail and trickery? Easily done. Consorting with thieves and thugs who are proven murderers? She’ll sing show tunes with them! They’re last resorts for her, but she won’t hesitate if pushed. Despite this, she does have her own moral code she sticks to; if she promises something, she will never break that promise, under any circumstances.

Initially Rapunzel is very subservient to her mother, she finds it hard to stand up for herself and make her voice heard, but with character development she becomes able to talk back and even shout her mother down. Now out from Gothel's thumb, Rapunzel is an independent and intelligent young woman who no longer believes herself weak and incapable. She’ll fight for what she wants and won’t be pushed around by others anymore. Rapunzel is cheeky and still very naïve, innocent but very courageous and resourceful, fighting off bad guys with nothing but her hair and a frying pan. There are still a few issues to work out, the poor girl had her life completely turned upside down and experienced a lot of betrayal, but she's truly happy with her life now and keeping strong.

Writing Sample:
01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
You can just call me Rapunzel.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Oh gosh, well sure? I'm still not entirely used to this 'wearing shoes' thing, they feel pretty weird, but I'll get the hang of it!

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
I really don't know. I tend to talk to myself a lot, or to Pascal, a lot of the time we sing. I guess a few hours, while I was reading? It's not something I keep track of.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
Aha, that is... Trust is difficult, sometimes the person you believed in most can turn out completely different than you thought. But I believe in my friends, my family. I love them all very dearly.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
I sort of just go up to the animals I want to know and talk to them. It's not like you need to domesticate them, animals are really friendly when you give them the chance. There are definitely some interesting animals in foreign lands I'd like to meet! An elephant, or a tiger, a giraffe... Maybe even a snake. Somebody told me animals like that, and beings with pointy teeth were too dangerous once. But I want to give them a chance.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
If somebody is upset, of course I'll want to help! It's not exactly incapacitated, because you're working to cheer them up, right?

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
Oh, I know this! You set the plate at the centre of the table, if you have guests around you use your fancy set. If you are eating a gooey cake you use the dessert fork, located at the top of your plate. If it's an ice cream cake, you use the dessert spoon, placed above the dessert fork. The fork holds the cake while the spoon you cut and eat with. I think that's right, no, I'm sure that's what I learned in my etiquette lessons.

08. Do you trust yourself?
I'm learning to.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Gosh! I don't have anything like that, well... I guess I did go gallivanting around with a thief, but that doesn't really count! He's a good man, and he's been pardoned from all his crimes. We've both got clean records now.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
If I disappeared, the whole kingdom would be sad again. My friends, my parents, Eugene... I've got a lot of people I love and we don't want to lose each other.

Character Name: Alfons Heiderich
Canon: Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: The Conqueror of Shamballa. (Set after the end of the 2003 anime series.)
Reference Link: The anime series: http://fma.wikia.com/wiki/Fullmetal_Alchemist_%28anime%29
The movie: http://fma.wikia.com/wiki/Fullmetal_Alchemist_the_Movie:_Conqueror_of_Shamballa
Alfons wiki page: http://fma.wikia.com/wiki/Alfons_Heiderich

Character History: Alfons Heiderich grew up in Germany through the first World War, where he lost his parents. His intelligence saved him from a worst life, as it eventually led to him learning rocketry from Herman Oberth in Rome.

At 15, he would meet another young genius, Edward Elric. A strange young man who always told odd stories about another world that he ‘came from.’ Alfons was pretty sure he was insane.

Alfons couldn’t ignore a stray, so invited Edward to live with him in Munich when his father left. They became close over two years despite Edward’s distance and insanity. Alfons health also started to take a turn for the worse, but he hid it.

A carnival trip changed everything. First in the fact their rocket building group got a sponsor, but also in meeting Noah, a gypsy who can read the hearts of others. Alfons and Edward hid her from the men after her. A short time later, Edward met with his ‘brother’ and said he’d be able to go home.

Alfons threw himself into his work, knowing his time was short and angry that his friend could talk about leaving so easily. They ended up having a fight where Alfons called him out on his distance and Edward found out about his illness.

Later that night, he’d learn that Edward was not insane and that the people he was working for did want to use Edward’s world for war. Not sure how he could stop any of the rest, Alfons decided the least he could do was sneak Edward into a one man rocket and send him home. Shortly before he was shot and killed himself.

Personality:
Alfons is a very kind young man. While he’s still bitter to the government for their actions at the end of the world, he doesn’t hold the bitterness to ‘outsiders’ as many others around him did. He’d often take in those others would throw on the street. He’s especially incapable of ignoring those who seem to be lonely, partly because of his own feelings of loneliness.

He desperately wants to leave a mark on the world. Sometimes to the detriment to his health or even his relationships. The former far more than the latter.

Alfons is a very empathic boy. He’s very patient, willing to humor people and when he thinks they have problems ‘facing reality,’ will be very gentle in his coaxing them to reality. He’s good at understanding people and their feelings. He’s also able to keep himself composed under pressure. He’s very calm and rather rational.

However, despite his own sensitivity to others feelings, he’s rather terrible at expressing himself. He’d rather bury his own problems behind a smile and just quietly support or coax others. Including anger. Maybe he’ll be passive aggressive, but usually he’ll bury anger and pain for a long time until eventually it becomes too much and he’ll snap, quickly losing his composure and rationality.

He’s extremely intelligent, becoming a rocket scientist at a young age. He can become extremely focused while studying, even shutting out the rest of the world. While he’s willing to humor the more superstitious things, he’s scientifically minded and doesn’t really believe it. However, with recent proof of ‘other worlds,’ he’s inclined to be more open minded. And he can adjust well even when his reality is rather thoroughly broken.

He’s extremely determined and will follow through on a goal to the best of his ability. Ultimately, though, others will almost always come before him if it’s within his ability to help them.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Well, Alfons Heiderich is my name. Most of my co-workers call me Heiderich and my friends call me Alfons.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Yes? Socks make shoes more comfortable.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
I’ve never really timed it, but I’d say hours. I can get really absorbed in my work and I can easily lose track of time.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
Wha-of course not!

Not that they can’t do it on accident…

Though the government might be doing that. They certainly aren’t helping.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
A wild animal, huh? Hmm, maybe something like a fox? They’re really cute animals, but you don’t really get to see them as pets. That might be nice.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
No. I don’t like seeing misery, but becoming ‘functionally incapacitated’ isn’t going to help them, is it?

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
A small plate.

08. Do you trust yourself?
I do. I’ve made mistakes, sure, but I’ve also done a lot of goods things in trusting my own judgment. A lot of people deserve help that others would say I’m foolish for offering, but it usually works out.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Well, I have-no, wait, people know about that. And that. And that…

I have an officer who regularly asks if I’m boarding gypsy pickpockets, I think most people know what I do. It’s technically harboring criminals, but I don’t believe they were guilty.

I don’t think I’ve done anything that might be considered illegal and not have people know about it, actually.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
… [The longest pause.] I like to think so.

Character Name: Nezumi
Canon: No. 6 (novel)
Reference Link: Wikipedia
Picture: Shirtless, even!

Character History: To understand Nezumi, you first have to know about No. 6: a vast, utopian city-state in a post-apocalyptic landscape, where mankind can live free of worry and pain with state-of-the-art resources and technological advancements at their fingertips. Everyone in No. 6 is happy—or, at least, you know, that's what they'd have you believe. In truth, No. 6 is rotting with corruption, and nobody feels this more strongly than Nezumi. The only survivor of a forest people who were devoured by No. 6's secret grasping genocidal tendencies, Nezumi hates No. 6 with a passion and wishes for nothing more than to rip it open and spill its guts. Living in the West Block, a ragged slum that No. 6 treats as a garbage dumping ground, Nezumi claws out a living alongside the thieves, prostitutes, and beggars, sharp with his tongue and his knife but blessed with an uncanny grace, pretty face, and beautiful voice that finds him work as an actor, under the assumed name Eve.

How he makes a living, however, isn't what he lives for. Nezumi uses his mice (both real and robotic) to infiltrate No. 6, constantly digging to find its weak point—and along the way, he ends up with his own weak point, a boy named Shion who had saved Nezumi from certain death when they were twelve. Returning the favor when things inexplicably go sour for Shion's life in No. 6, Nezumi's goal becomes wrapped up with Shion's story, and the two of them work to unearth the city's dark underbelly, all the while becoming more and more wrapped up in each other.

Personality: The West Block is a dog-eat-dog world—for lack of a better expression, honestly, because the dogs there are probably the nicest of the bunch. Nezumi is absolutely no exception, and seems to take pride in being resolutely alone and looking out only for himself. "Never open your heart to anyone. Don't believe in anyone but yourself." Those were the words left to him when his people were killed (because that's totally what elders should pass onto their only descendent? yes?) and the words Nezumi lives by. Or . . . tries very, very hard to live by. Problematically, he was very good at this until Shion barged into his life and started flipping tables and giving Nezumi things like hope and feelings, which Nezumi basically views as the worst thing that could ever happen to him.

Nezumi is incredibly clever: excellent at manipulating others, skilled at reading the atmosphere, and ridiculously well-educated given his social circumstances. He lives in a hovel that is 90% books, 9% rats, and 1% there's a sofa in there somewhere, and seems to be perpetually one, two, or five steps ahead of everybody else at every given moment, both metaphorically and literally. He is tenacious and critical, with a flair for the dramatic, prone to extreme sarcasm and brutal mockery. He can be rude and verbally destructive, with no apparent need for manners or respect—then pull an immediate turnabout and be flamboyant, flirtatious, sensual, and alluring. He is a conman, an actor, a thief, an intellectual, and one rat that you never, ever want to back into a corner.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Given the luxury of choice, are we? Hah, I wonder. Anyway, here's where I'd say, there's no use in putting importance on names, but given how that question's phrased it seems like you already think a little on the same lines. I go by Nezumi—that's good enough, isn't it?

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Another luxury! Of course, I'm very delicate—I can't imagine what I'd do if my feet weren't cushioned and buffered from the elements, inside hand-sewn tailormade leather shoes. I also only accept the finest thread blends of imported cotton, so do make sure you take that into your calculations.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
There have been plenty of times where there simply wasn't anybody around worth talking to, and I'd just as soon stay silent as waste my precious voice on those who can't pay for the pleasure.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
Saying "plagued by suspicions" just makes it sound like it isn't true. Of course they are—everybody will stab you in the back and climb right over your body to get what they want. Plagued? No—blessed, to be functionally not an idiot, unlike some I could name.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
Oh, I couldn't possibly say that I have an affinity for a particular animal. Not at all. Why do you ask?

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
Much the same way the majority of humans are functionally incapacitated by the sun rising, yes.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
What decadent and philosophical queries! What troubling lives some people must leave, to be burdened by such a question—why, I simply don't know how I prefer to indulge my privilege.

08. Do you trust yourself?
Heaven is my judge, not I for love and duty,
But seeming so, for my peculiar end;
For when my outward action doth demonstrate
The native act and figure of my heart
In complement extern, 'tis not long after
But I will wear my heart upon my sleeve
For daws to peck at. I am not what I am.

—not a fan? No, I suppose I wouldn't take you for a thespian. So, how's this: there's only one person that trusts me, and only one person I trust.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
That would be an incredibly long list. I'm afraid you'll have to submit that request in writing. Though of course, given the nature of the question, I regret to say that the response would have to remain confidential—a Schröedinger's cat of perjury, as it were.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
. . . only an idiot would miss me.

Shion | No. 6

[personal profile] harukami 2012-05-06 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Shion
Canon: No. 6
Reference Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._6

Character History:
No. 6 -- a post-apocalyptic utopia whose citizens want for nothing. Or, you know, a hideous dystopia where anyone who gave any indication of discontent is swiftly and efficiently disappeared. Whichever.

Shion was a gifted member of No. 6's society, living in THE section of town for the elite, when on his twelfth birthday a violent criminal -- a boy his age, Nezumi, who was bleeding nastily after escaping the authorities -- broke into his bedroom and held him hostage. Rather than turn him in, Shion patched his wounds, fed him pie, and got extremely excited when said criminal threatened to slice his throat open with a spoon. The boy left, Shion got caught by the authorities for harbouring a dangerous criminal and he and his mother lost all elite privileges and were forced to move to the unprivileged section of No. 6, Lost Town. Four years later, working as part of the city park cleanup crew, Shion got in trouble for showing discontent against the city, and was to be disappeared -- except Nezumi showed up to save him and smuggled him to the slum outside the city walls, West Block. There, the two lived together, ideologies frequently clashing as the innocent and idealistic Shion tried his best to be good to everyone, and the jaded and bitter Nezumi tried to teach him to survive by trusting only himself. Their ideological war took place on the battlefield of No. 6 which Nezumi wanted to see destroyed, and which Shion wanted to save for the sake of its people. But even with that, the two of them fell reluctantly (Nezumi) and passionately (Shion) in love with each other.

Also, there was a major plot about killer bees in there.

Personality:
On the one hand, Shion has genius-level intelligence. He retains information with amazing ease, can pull it out at a moment's notice, and is immensely talented at understanding and analysing situations he's presented with. On the other hand, he's a natural airhead with no ability to read the mood. Shion cares about people deeply and intensely, crying for their losses, sympathizing with their wants, and understanding their situations. He agonizes when he sees injustices in front of him, but he also isn't a hypocrite; he is aware that sometimes people must commit atrocities for the sake of what they are living for, and he's completely non-judgmental of how other people have had to live. But he cares about people's ability to gain happiness much more than just their survival, and the people of West Block who get to know him are simultaneously completely disgusted by his tendency to try to help everyone, yet strangely charmed by how earnest he is.

Basically, on a general level, and as what most people will see of him, Shion is friendly, kind, affectionate, loves animals and children, always willing to help others at any risk to himself, very smart but totally lacking wisdom, outgoing, and above all, determined to keep trying to live and understand what it truly means to live.

That said, underneath these tendencies is a rather more dangerous thread of reckless thrillseeking -- Shion lacks a normal reaction to fear and instead responds to terrifying scenarios (aside from concern for the people who could be harmed with them, of course) with pleasure. Nezumi's death threats are a total turn-on to the point that he has to remind himself that no matter how heart-pounding the idea of Nezumi murdering him is, any idea that ended in his death is probably not a good one. Plus on top of this, when the things Shion cares about are threatened -- or, much worse, insulted -- Shion can easily snap into a violent rage; basically, if you imply Nezumi's a whore, you can expect to find Shion on top of you, strangling you and slamming your head into the floor. So essentially he has an intensely subtle but strong sado-masochistic streak underlying his genuine concern and care for others. But he's totally safe and sane, okay. Really.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
My name's Shion, so doesn't it make sense to call me that? I think it'd be hard for me to remember any other name, since I'm much too used to my own.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Um, require is putting it a bit firmly, isn't it? I have a hard time imagining any scenario someone might require socks over anything else... maybe they have really sensitive feet? Or a skin condition they don't want to pass on to anyone else and... well, that would only really apply if people have to share shoes, I suppose. I don't have a skin condition like that, so I think I'd be fine.

It would be nice if we don't have to share shoes, though, while we're talking about the uniform. Thanks for your consideration.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
I haven't ever timed myself, so I think it'd be difficult to give a properly accurate assessment. I wouldn't want to throw off the results of this survey by giving an inaccurate answer. That said, if you don't mind something more generalized, I do usually sleep six to eight hours a night when I can get it, and I'm fairly sure Nezumi would have told me if I talked in my sleep, so let's say an average of seven consecutive hours within a twenty-four hour period is probably normal... something like that.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
This is a very hard question to answer generally! I could go on at length, probably, breaking apart whether coworkers (No) or relatives (No) might be doing things behind my back, or assess a more general city authority when I was in No. 6 (but does it count as being plagued by suspicions if you know it's true?), or look at life in the West Block (No, mostly because I think the ones who know me pity me enough that if they wanted to hurt me they'd at least do it to my face in the hopes that I would show some understanding of why my life had come to this).

But I think on average my answer is No, with Yes only when I've been given specific evidence that indicates that people might be doing things to hurt other people generally. I mean, I'm just a single person. It's not all about me. And situations are really hard to generalize.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
A large wild rat, of the kind you can find in the slums. I think given the right approach I might be able to pet it, and maybe get it to eat out of my hand.

Now I'm really curious about the egret, though.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
Do you mean 'functionally incapacitated' in that my normal functions would be incapacitated as a whole such as leaving me catatonic or unable to react to the situation at the time, or do you mean that certain functions might be, such as subsequent emotional breakdowns when the situation is over? Either way, I don't think it's tolerable to just witness someone else's misery. One must intervene either to help or to harm, but just being a silent witness, yes, I think that's a sign one might already be incapacitated.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
That's not a great example. Basically people only use forks for cake, or I guess if they're out of forks, spoons, but there's a pretty limited set of flatware that CAN be used for cake from which one could draw a favorite. Anyway, I'm not so excited by flatware to call it a favorite, but I'd pick a fork.

08. Do you trust yourself?
I don't really think about that particularly much. I'd probably have to consider it more before I gave an answer.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Isn't that a logistic flaw? If I list it, I already know that you would then know I committed it, so by the time I put it down on paper, but before you read it, it's no longer a crime only I would know that I've committed. So by the time you read it, it's a crime that you and I would know that I committed. In fact, the only way to list a crime that only I would know I've committed is to say "I'm listing it here", and not finish writing.

So I've listed it here:

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
Yes, but he'd rather swallow his own tongue than admit it. I like his tongue just where it is, so I'd rather not disappear, if it's all the same. At least, not unless he comes with me. Thank you.

Character Name: Loki
Canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe (Thor/Avengers)
Reference Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_Cinematic_Universe

Character History:
There are several kinds of realms in the universe, connected to Yggdrasil, the World Tree. Amongst these worlds are Earth, Asgard and Jotunheim. The Norse Gods of old are actually people from this world where science and magic have the same origin. Once in a war with Jotunheim, Odin Forefather defeated the Frost Giants and took from them, one small baby, in hopes of bridging the gap between their worlds. That child was Loki. He grew up, unaware of his heritage, but often shunned and rejected for his brother, Thor Odinson. Still, Loki was smart, quick-witted and sly, gaining a name for himself and proving to be the voice of reason to his brother's unruly antics.

However, when his brother is crowned King of Asgard, Loki begins to question his life. He lets in two Frost Giants in order to cause some mischief and suddenly, his brother proposes genocide, while he deflects his intentions. When they fight off the Frost Giants and Thor is banished to Earth, Loki finally learned of his secret heritage and accuses his father of favouritism. Odin, suffering from losing one son and hurting from the accusations of another, fell into a deep sleep. This is where Loki's decline begins. He seizes the throne for himself, trying to prevent Thor from ever returning as he instigates the Frost Giants to attack Asgard and his father. He becomes thirsty for power, recognition and above all, a need to be recognized as a person, rather than a shadow of his brother or an adopted enemy. However, this backfires on him when Thor becomes a hero again and Loki, in desperation, tries to wipe out the Frost Giants' world. Instead, he is lost to Asgard, falling through worlds and space.

When we see Loki again, he's ready to ignite a war on Earth. Everything he fought and connived for, is replaced with a burning hatred to subjugate all mankind.
Personality:
Loki is an adopted child of Odin Forefather and brother to Thor Odinson. While he lacks his brother's warm exterior and exuberance, he makes up for it with silver-tongue and mastery over magic. Sly, cunning and patient, Loki knows how to pick the safest and wisest option, seeing more sense in a retreat than a fight. Relying more on his wits and aptitude than his powers, Loki prefers to remain in the background, manipulating people as he sees fit, rather than taking an overt approach. That being said, Loki isn't coldly logical. His life has left him with many desires, to rule, to take, to have, to be important. Loki takes every hurt he has ever suffered and turns into a burning rage. And sometimes, he cannot see past absolutes, like his father and brother's personalities. Brutal, cruel and perfect at aiming for people's weaknesses, Loki expects everyone else to do the work for him as he sits a throne of his own glory. But at times, he lacks conviction for his own ambitions, struggling to find a way to make his own identity: Not as Loki Odinson, not as Loki the Frost Giant, but something so new and terrible that he will do anything to make it happen.

Whether Loki is past redemption or not is hard to say, even now. In Avengers, he's overtaken by an anger and hatred for mankind, for turning his brother into a force of good and for standing up against him. He channels himself into destroying them and shows no remorse for doing so. He's still driven for his own goals and only his own, but occasionally they are hinged on other powers in his life, like his father and the aliens who provided him the army. He's still the underdog, pushed around and used accordingly, even if he's not completely aware of it.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
That choice would be my name, obviously. Though I do enjoy being called Trickster. It's flattering, really.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
I hardly think it matters.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?

I believe, when I was younger, I stopped talking for a year. No one could understand why, least of all myself. Of course now I know the truth, but that's not what you're asking, is it?

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
You clearly don't know much about people to ask me something so trite. It's not a suspicion anymore, it never was.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
Giant wolves. I hear they're very useful in a hunt.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
Does it really matter?

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
The knife. Sharp and cutting. Unlike this survey.

08. Do you trust yourself?
Explicitly. As they say... if you want something done, do it yourself.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Tell me your definition of "crime" and I'll retort accordingly.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
No. No one at all.

Near | Death Note

[personal profile] loquacious 2012-05-09 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Near
Canon: Death Note
Reference Link: http://deathnote.wikia.com/wiki/Near

Character History:
Orphaned at a young age, Near was raised with other highly intelligent orphans in a facility specifically designed to fit their intellectual needs. Near was consistently the smartest when tested, and was vetted from early on to become L (the World’s Greatest Detective) should he die in the line of duty. When the unfortunate day came, Near and second smartest student Mello were both chosen to take on the Kira case that killed L. But due to a stark difference in personalities, the two did not end up working together. While Mello disappeared into the underworld and established a power base there, Near rebuilt L’s final case from scratch using every scrap of information he could find and eventually built his power more legitimately through the US government. It’s a testament to Near’s intelligence when he is granted this considering his physical appearance and general demeanor are that of a 12 year old.

By the age of 18 Near was successfully running a small team of agents investigating the Kira case. The closer he got to the answer, the more dangerous things became and he loses most of his agents, his building and his special dispensation from the government before eventually solving the case by somewhat underhanded means. Near ends up putting his own life and the remaining lives of his team in danger to face the world’s most dangerous killer face to face. It pays off for Near at least, as he is one of scant few characters who make it out of Death Note alive and intact.

Personality:
Unnaturally small, with large, dark eyes and white hair Near isn’t the most inspiring person physically, but his intelligence more than makes up for what he lacks in appearance. Capable of multitasking and gifted in making logical assumptions Near is a natural detective. He is calm, rational and entirely confident in his own analytic abilities. He is also surprisingly willing to accept his own limitations and learn from his mistakes, when he makes them. Despite his general confidence, Near is extremely cautious, as witnessed by the fact that he uses the alias “Near” to keep his real name a secret. He isn’t likely to act until he’s entirely sure of the outcome, and only then when the outcome is in his favor.

Having been raised for his intelligence and little else Near has virtually no social skills to speak of. He is reclusive, blunt and uncaring, even to the people he has to rely on. The only people Near cares about even slightly are the ones who are useful to him, and even then it’s mostly because Near isn’t capable of taking care of himself. For all that Near understands the world, he won’t even leave the safety of his facility by himself.

For all his cold demeanor, Near does enjoy showing off his intelligence and can be something of a troll in his interactions with people he is manipulating. Conversely, he is likely to pout and act more childish when things aren’t going his way. Near hates to lose. He is extremely determined, to the point of being willing to sacrifice anything to get what he wants. This includes himself in dire circumstances, but mostly applies to others.

Writing Sample:
01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
I am most commonly referred to as “L”. But considering this question seems designed so that my answer will be the only name you don’t use for me, I will officially state that it doesn’t matter what you call me.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Yes. I am happy to provide my own socks if you anticipate a scarcity.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
43 Days, 6 hours and 25 minutes, give or take a few minutes.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
I have no relatives and I keep my team under sufficient surveillance to keep potential personal injury to an acceptable minimum. As for other people, I wouldn’t be who I am if they weren’t working to destroy me, it just proves I’m doing my job well.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
None, animals are disgusting and pets in general are unnecessarily messy.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
No.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
A fork. Unless you would consider fingers flatware.

08. Do you trust yourself?
Yes.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Unlawful search and seizure.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
Probably not. There will always be another L.

Character Name: Tokiya Mikagami
Canon: Flame of Recca
Reference Link: Love is changing every time

Character History:
Tokiya's parents died when he was young, and was left to grow up with just his older sister, Mifuyu. They were quite lonely, but found themselves to be alright in each other's care. One night, however, thugs came into their apartment with the intent to steal their family's heirloom— the "Ensui". Mifuyu dies while protecting both the Ensui and Tokiya, with entrusting the heirloom to her brother as the last thing she did.

Tokiya grew up consumed with hatred towards those who killed his sister. He studied under a swordsman named Meguri Kyoza, and was taught how to kill people. It was Kyoza who revealed to him the true nature of the Ensui: a sword with a blade out of water, and that it could control all forms of water. It is after he has completed his training that he meets Yanagi Sakoshita, who closely resembles his late older sister. He tried to get close to Yanagi and keep her for himself, but it wasn't favourable to any of Recca Hanabishi, Fuuko Kirisawa, and Domon Ishijima who were Yanagi's closest friends.

Things don't go so well for Tokiya and Yanagi's friends, especially Recca. They always ended up fighting, with Recca almost losing his life. Eventually, the two settle their differences and Tokiya realized what he had done was wrong. Because of that, Tokiya becomes part of Recca's group (the "Hokage"), and they live their lives violently ever after.

(Note: it is stated explicitly in canon that there is a Tokiya Mikagami fan club. Some members even ask for his autograph.)

Personality:
Among the Hokage (Recca, Fuuko, Domon, Yanagi and some other people), Tokiya is the most intelligent and calculating. He is considered a prodigy with regards to his swordplay and ability to use the Ensui, and is also really good in his studies. He is cool and calm while fighting, and can easily figure out what the weakness of his opponent is, even if he's only been fighting them for a few minutes. And because of his goal to find out who killed his sister and to exact revenge on them, he is ruthless and cruel, and doesn't care who he hurts, as long has he gets his goal.

He's just the same when he's not fighting and is just with friends. He is aloof, and has a sharp tongue. He's not afraid to insult anyone, whether he means it truly, or as a joke. The way he speaks isn't specifically cold, but what he says usually doesn't invite people to say something back. He does have a caring side, but only shows it to people who he has grown fond of. He's not exactly the best at being nice, and while his delivery might come off as insulting, he sometimes means well.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Mikagami.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
That depends on what kind of uniform it is. They're usually required for school uniforms, mostly because they don't want boys stinking up the classrooms with their sweaty feet.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
The better question is "what's the longest you've gone without being silent?"

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
No. That's a waste of time.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
I'm not a fan of animals. But if I had to answer this question, I'd go with fox.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
No. I don't really care.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
Knives. And I don't eat cake.

08. Do you trust yourself?
Of course, I do.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
That's not a question I can give an answer to.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
Some girls probably would, but it doesn't really matter.

Character Name: Darcy Lewis
Canon: Thor, 2011 movie
Reference Link: http://marvel-movies.wikia.com/wiki/Darcy_Lewis bam. Wiki link.

Character History: Darcy doesn’t get a ton of backstory, as she is the movie’s token “normal girl.” We know she is a political science major, and presumably not a native of New Mexico. Darcy Lewis has no backstory. Darcy Lewis needs no backstory.

She was an intern for on Jane Foster, who’s work led her to be one of the first to discover the banished Asguardian Prince, Thor Odinson when he fell to Earth, and also to be kinda sorta involved with the war for the throne of the Realm Eternal, blah blah, whatever, they had a lot of fancy words that Darcy couldn’t understand and kind of talked about honor a lot which was confusing but also they were all really good looking? And then they fought a robot I guess? Honestly she wasn’t paying much attention and probably couldn’t tell you the plot of her own canon if you asked her.

Personality: Darcy Lewis is probably not a person who belongs in an action movie about the fate of the cosmos. Too bad, because she is here anyway, because she needs the work study credits, so you can deal with it. She’s way more interested in the contents of her iPod than in epic struggles for the nine realms, and when such struggles happen around her she is mostly concerned with the hotness of the participants and also how hard all their names are to pronounce. (Usually they’re really, really hard to pronounce.) Honestly? She doesn’t get this whole super-dimensional god-being thing that’s going on here, and doesn’t reeeeally care to. There’s also not a lot that can get her bogged down or wigged out herself. Yeah, all the extra-dimensional god-dudes stuff doesn’t make sense, but that doesn’t mean it’s not hilarious, and should be treated as such, and posted about to Facebook as quickly as possible.

But despite her casualness (and seeming lack of common sense) she’s by no means incompetent. She’s much sharper than she looks: able to spot anomalies and patterns faster than anyone around her, even people who have made their careers of seeking such things. She’s also got good instincts and plenty of huevos; the girl is perfectly willing to tase a god if he’s wigging out too hard. On the other hand, all that smartness means that she’s awesome at having the good sense to run away from danger and not directly into it. Practicality is awesome.

She’s not the first person you’d want at your side when facing down fire-breathing sentry-golems. Honestly, she’s not in the first fifty. But if she just so happens to be there, well, she’ll face it with gumption and a good attitude.

Just don’t ask her to pronounce Mjolnir.

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?

Darcy, yo. “Miss Lewis” kind of gives that I’m-just-being-polite-because-not-so-secretly-I’m-a-douche vibe.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?

Yes? Obviously? Unless like, we’re getting sandals. Then that’s gross. Wait, why are we wearing uniforms? Is this a government thing? I don’t do well with government things. I feel all oppressed and junk.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?

What’s the longest Lady Gaga song? Because that’s probably how long.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?

OK, look, I didn’t really want to get into this, but this one professor I had Sophomore year had this spectacular hate boner for me. He just couldn’t take that I was preaching the truth about post-modern objectivist philosophy. The ability to talk about that crap as an ~unbiased, objective observer~ is a hella privileged position. What was I supposed to do? Let him talk about Ayn Rand like her turds don’t stink? Because let me assure you, they do stink. They stink like poop. Anyway he gave me a B- which was way unwarranted. What a jerk, right?

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?

OMG. Armadillos for sure.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?

Naw, we call that Finals Week and it’s hilarious.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?

Sporks! Wait, are spoks a flatware? Crap, they totally can’t be flatware due to their lack of flatness. Crap crap crap.

08. Do you trust yourself?

Whoah. That’s kind of a deep question. I guess, if I really thought about it. Like. Maybe?

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.

I, uh, I smoked pot once, but I totally didn’t inhale!

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?

Yyyyes? Wait. Definitely yes! There’s total hunkomatic gods that would be pissed to the max. He would hammer you into next week, only not in a sexy way! Like in a Meownow to the FACE way. Disappearing me is a super bad idea! I’m warning you!

Tony Stark || Iron Man/Avengers

[personal profile] possessedoflove 2012-05-11 11:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Anthony "Tony" Stark
Canon: Iron Man/Avengers (Movie verse)
Reference Link: Wiki

Character History: Tony Stark, son of the brilliant inventor Howard Stark (who was involved in the Manhattan Project, among other things), was lucky enough to inherit Stark Industries, a significant fortune, and a brilliant mind for technology and invention from his father. As head of Stark Industries, naturally, he uses his powers for good and creates highly advanced weapons of mass destruction for the US military, profiting off of war and death and sleeping like a baby at night! That is, until his convoy is jumped after a demonstration in Afghanistan and he's held hostage by terrorists who demand that he rebuild his latest and greatest missiles for them. During the ambush, Stark was near-fatally wounded, leaving him with shards of shrapnel in his chest that would migrate to his heart and kill him if not for an electromagnet powered by his own invention, the arc reactor, plugged right in there. After building a makeshift predecessor to the Iron Man suit, Stark escapes the terrorists and returns home to declare the end of Stark Industries' weapons program, having seen that his weapons were being used by both sides to perpetuate war. Except, of course, for one little private project: the Iron Man suit.
One double-cross from business partner Obidiah later, and the suit graduates from being a personal toy to a tool Stark uses to defeat Obidiah's own suit and protect public safety in true super hero-ish fashion. He then blatantly ignores the traditional concept of a secret alter-ego and reveals to the whole world at a press conference that he was Iron Man. Stark later goes on to refuse to hand over any of his new tech to the US government, which turns to a rival company instead. Meanwhile, he starts getting more than a little reckless since he thinks he's due to die soon because of poisoning from his arc reactor. But really it all turns out okay and the important development that comes out of Iron Man 2 is that Stark first encounters Nick Fury, Natasha Romanoff, and the "Avengers Initiative" and is pretty much immediately crossed off the list of potential team members because he's himself. But that doesn't stop them from recruiting him when an alien force starts a war with earth, led by Loki. Stark somehow manages to play nice with Captain America, Natasha, Hawkeye, Thor, and the Hulk to successfully protect the earth and explode stuff. Yay \o/

Personality: Tony Stark is a genius engineer playboy billionaire, more or less. He can invent and assemble technology decades beyond what the rest of the world is capable of (like his clean energy arc reactor), even when held captive by terrorists in a cave in Afghanistan! He's ~smooth~ with the ladies, at least up until he finally hooks up with his assistant, Pepper Potts. He's got a healthy ego, likes to show off, likes being on top, and is pretty easily labelled with traits like narcissism, self-centeredness, recklessness, arrogance, and several others. He's extremely sarcastic in conversation and is full of snark and witty one-liners, or maybe occasionally science jargon might happen.
Stark likes to play and likes to party, rarely taking things seriously –– particularly things like authority, formalities, business functions, or even top-secret government business. He's skipped out on meetings for Stark Industries that he doesn't feel like attending, disobeyed orders from top government agencies, showed up hours late for important military demonstrations, and once skipped an awards ceremony in his honour to go to a casino instead. Responsibility isn't exactly Stark's middle name, and neither is conventionality. He also operates in a moral grey zone a lot of the time, thinking nothing of breaking the law or hacking into protected computer systems to achieve his ends. However, his end goals are, at least later on, very well-meaning: developing clean energy, defending the public, and repelling alien invasions led by Norse Gods, and if that means hacking top-secret organizations to get to the bottom of what's going on, no big deal.
The events in Afghanistan surrounding his kidnapping had a pretty profound impact on Stark. He got a heavy dose of accountability and responsibility in seeing firsthand how his weapons were really being used in reality and their devastating effects, and believed that he absolutely 100% should have died –– but somehow didn't. So he must be alive for a reason. This leads him down the path of flashy heroics and being a genuinely decent person, though he's still not all that fond of things like self-sacrifice and pain. By Avengers, however, Stark ends up pulling together and playing his part on the team (one of the things he was worst at), and even nearly sacrifices his own life to save others from a nuclear strike. He's got it in him! It's just really not Plan A.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Tony Stark, genius billionaire playboy philanthropist and part-time super hero, the amazing Iron Man. Though if that's too much of a mouthful for you, you can just pick three or four of your favourites to use instead.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Actually, I'm good, no uniform needed. I've got my own suit, and I'd say it's versatile enough for both casual and working conditions.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
That's a boring question. Pass, next, skip, et cetera.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
No, in my experience they tend to be pretty upfront about it. I guess there's been the odd problem in the past, but it helps that I'm not exactly swimming in relatives or coworkers.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
Go big or go home: Tyrannosaurus Rex.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
That would be a ridiculous mental tic to have in my line of work, wouldn't it?

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
Well, the PG-13 answer is obviously "a plate", but if I don't have to stick to "flatware" I'll bet I could come up with something a little more exciting.

08. Do you trust yourself?
I'm brilliant, charismatic, and easy on the eyes. What's not to trust?

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Is this entrapment? Because I think you're supposed to be a little sneakier and try to trick me or something.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
My name up in lights is part of the New York skyline, of course they'd miss me.

Cassie Blake | The Secret Circle

[personal profile] emiri 2012-05-12 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Cassie Blake
Canon: The Secret Circle
Reference Link: Canon wiki page

Character History: Cassie was a happy, normal teenage girl until her single mother died in an apparently accidental fire. Orphaned and deeply saddened, Cassie moves across the country to live with her maternal grandmother in the small town of Chance Harbour. But as Cassie gets to know her high school classmates, strange and frightening things begin to happen. Her new friends explain that they are all powerful witches and that they've been waiting for Cassie to arrive to complete their circle. Initially she refuses to believe them, but eventually she accepts the truth.

As the series progresses Cassie is able to develop her potential as a witch, but it's soon revealed that Cassie has power that the others do not-- dark power. While she has white magic from her mother's bloodline, she also finds she has dark magic from her absent father as well. It's powerful, but corrupting. When witch hunters come to town with tools that render the circle's white magic ineffective, Cassie is forced to tap into her dark magic more and more frequently to save their lives, and every time she does so she comes just that little bit closer to killing.

By mid-season, Cassie's life has turned completely upside down. She now has an almost full-time job performing death-defying escapes from people who want to kill her and raging-out with dark magic on semi-regular basis. Then, in the middle of her battle with the dark side, suddenly her long-lost father conveniently reappears. Wanting to believe him genuine, she accepts him back into her life, but it's eventually discovered that her father only wanted to use her magic to eradicate all white-witches from the world. To save her friends, Cassie ends up using her dark magic to kill him. End season finale.

Personality: Cassie is strong willed and independent, frequently living alone after her mother's death and her grandmother's descent into senility. She describes herself as someone who is used to being alone, and as not being very popular or social. However, as comfortable as she is with being independent, Cassie is not afraid to ask for help or rely on others when she realises she needs it-- though she occasionally doesn't realise it. One often gets the feeling that as much as she says she doesn't mind being alone, she actually craves love and friendship. When she does make friends, she's extremely sincere, loyal and caring. When she falls in love with her best friend's boyfriend, she goes to extreme lengths to push him away out of loyalty to said best friend. However, Cassie doesn't always make the smartest decisions, so of course they end up hooking-up anyway.

Cassie also has a dark side as previously mentioned. To Cassie, her dark magic is a tool for salvation. Because of it, she's managed to save her circle from certain death on a number of occasions, so she refuses to see it as being completely evil-- otherwise she'd be completely evil. Despite their warnings, Cassie continues to insist that she's in control of her dark magic and that she'll use it if she has to. The ends justifies the means, right? It's not that she wants to use it, but if pushed comes to shove, she won't hesitate to protect herself or her friends. However as time goes on, it becomes pretty clear that she doesn't have control-- it has control over her. The more she uses her power, the worse her rage is every time.

However it's also because of this dark side that Cassie is more trusting and forgiving than anyone else in the circle. She knows what it's like to feel driven by bloodlust and revenge and desperation, to deeply regret actions taken in the heat of the moment. She understands being stuck between a rock and a hard place-- but when both options suck, she's a survivalist, not a moralist. Her friends may think that death is preferable to succumbing to dark magic, but she never will. It's because she understands all this that she's the first person to trust and forgive Jake-- a former witch hunter-- and later on, her father when he steps back into her life. She wants badly to believe that people can move forward and change, that they can be more than the sum of their deeds, that good can coexist with evil. Because if not, then what hope does she have?

Writing Sample:
01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Just Cassie's fine. I don't think I've been called Cassandra since I was really little and got into big trouble when I lost my mom in a supermarket. And Cass just sounds weird, right? Like it should be some sort of fish, haha.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Um... yes? This sounds like it should be a trick question, but I'm not sure where the trick is. Does anybody ever... not want socks with their uniform? I mean, just out of curiosity. Hey, I'm not judging! People can go sockless if they want. I mean, hey, it's a good look with flats.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
Does being an infant who can't talk for several years count? Haha, I didn't think it would. No, um. I suppose... after... my mom died, probably. I didn't really want to talk to anyone for a few days after that. I didn't really... have any one to talk to, anyway.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
What? No, don't be ridiculous. My friends are my family, they'd never do anything to hurt me. Witch hunters, however... well, that's another story.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
Why a large egret? Never mind, I'm not sure I want to know. You know, if we can say anything, I think I'd say a bengal tiger. Barring the fact that tigers are impossible to domesticate in real life, of course.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
... I'd say it depends on the person.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
Now here's a question I can get behind! I don't know, I'm pretty sure I'd eat cake off most surfaces so long as it was clean and hygienic. ... And not embarrassing.

08. Do you trust yourself?
... That's a pretty broad question. I suppose it would depend on "with what." There's a lot I trust myself with, like managing my finances responsibly, cooking dinner without burning the house down, you know, normal things! But also a few things that I don't. Let's leave it at that.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Uh. Can I please... not?

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
Wow, right in the kisser with the personal questions there huh. Don't mind me, just pull out your big guns. ... I mean, yeah, sure, I have friends and I like to think that they would! There, now I sound slightly egotistical, but it's okay. Whatever, right? Right.

Character Name: Takano Miyo
Canon: Higurashi no Naku koro ni.
Reference Link: TvTropes characters page. Picture is visible under supporting characters. Or another wiki here.

Character History: Takano Miyo was born as Tanashi Miyoko. Her parents both died in a bus crash and she was put in an Orphanage of Torture. Luckily for her, she was rescued by a kindly old man named Takano Hifumi. Hifumi was a scientist who dedicated his entire life to trying to prove something called Hinamizawa Syndrome (a condition involving infection of brain parasites found only in one small village in Japan) existed. He failed and died in obscurity. Miyoko renamed herself Takano Miyo and decided she would take up his cause; investigate Hinamizawa Syndrome. She graduated from a top university, became a researcher, and created a government-funded scientific research taskforce to do so. Hinamizawa villagers were distrustful of outsiders, so the research facility was disguised as a clinic created in the village to provide modern medicine to the inhabitants. Takano Miyo became the de facto head researcher, and personally used many of the locals as test subjects. After many years of work, the government canceled the research project. When failure seemed to be the only option, she decided on a bold course of action: fake an imminent outbreak of Hinamizawa Syndrome and exterminate all of the inhabitants of the village under the guise of 'containment' of the disease. Hinamizawa Syndrome would be destroyed, but it would create a lasting legacy of fear and death in the public. She faked her death, had all other researchers killed, and then exterminated every villager with a group of mercenaries, resulting in a death toll of about 2,000 people. Her fate after this is unknown. (Note that Takano Miyo is taken from after Minnagoroshi-hen, a chapter where she not only succeeds in sterilizing the village, but personally kills everyone who tries to stop her.)

Personality: Takano Miyo presents herself as a professional person. A reliable, dependable, and well-educated woman who values intelligence and knowledge for its own sake. However, the darker side of her personality is of an obsessed woman with no morals who cares only for her own research at the expense of whoever and whatever else. She does do a very good job hiding this side of her personality and interacts with most people in a calm and friendly manner. That said, she is not above dickish behavior and will spread lies and half-truths merely to see a person's frightened reaction and generally stir up mischief for her own amusement. If confronted about this behavior, she downplays it as curiosity on her part, or her possessing a unique sense of humor. Because of the value she places on intelligence, she tends to look down on people she deems to be mentally inferior to herself, and her demeanor becomes more condescending and patronizing. She is a very strong willed person, and therefore is also a very sore loser because she invests all of herself into any goal she sets out to do. When faced with failure, she is likely to suffer a mental breakdown and become more and more desperate to turn the situation back in her favor, depending on the scale of the failure and what is at stake. When she is succeeding, however, she is not above torturing or otherwise teasing her victims, especially if they are helpless.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Takano-san. 'Major' would also be acceptable as it is a given military title I hold.
02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Yes. Who would wear shoes without socks?
03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
A few hours, at most. I'm not one of those researchers who sequesters themselves in a dark room for weeks.
04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
No, because I know what they are capable of and they are incapable of affecting me. The reverse is true, however.
05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
The Ebola virus. Perhaps not technically an animal, but it would certainly be interesting.
06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
No. I'd hardly be a good scientist if I was.
07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
Stainless steel fork, knife, and cake cutter. Properly cleaned and disinfected.
08. Do you trust yourself?
Certainly.
09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Genocide. Myself and the mercenaries who carried it out, at least.
10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
No, because I've already disappeared. The answer would be the same regardless, however.

Character Name: Shindou Sugata
Canon: Star Driver
Reference Link: series & character

Character History:

In the Shindou family, "Sugata" is the name given to men who are born with the emblem marking them as a Star Driver. At a young age, and on his birthday, Sugata is told about the emblem and all of the secrets behind a group of giant robots known as Cybodies. Of these Cybodies, Sugata's is the most powerful. As a result, he is not allowed to leave the island he lives on, and is given two bodyguards who also double as assassins that have been ordered to kill him if he tries to escape.

Another tradition in the Shindou family is that the men marry Shrine Maidens. Sugata ends up engaged to Agemaki Wako, the Southern Shrine Maiden, who is also a childhood friend and a Star Driver. Unable to leave the island herself, they grow up close and he is always looking out for her and trying to protect her until one day when Tsunashi Takuto shows up. The three bond quickly and easily even though it soon becomes apparent that both men are in love with Wako. Once Sugata realizes this, he starts rigorously training Takuto in both the sword and martial arts, so that he can be sure that Takuto will be able to protect Wako if anything should happen.

Following lots of flashy mecha battles between Takuto and an organization known as the Glittering Crux, Sugata takes it upon himself to stop the fighting and ends up joining the enemy under the pretense of switching sides to gain control and destroy the world. In reality, he is only acting the part so that he can seal his Cybody forever, thus sacrificing himself, and ensuring that Wako and Takuto will be safe. At the end, Takuto goes into space to save him.

Personality:

Sugata is the "cool" guy of the group. He's quiet, calm, and emotionally reserved for the most part—unless you try to hurt his friends that is, and then he will do everything in his power to stop you, even at the risk of his life. He also has a dry sense of humor and is pretty easy-going when it comes to things like his engagement, or doing silly stunts as part of the drama club. Behind his charming smile, though, lies a somewhat darker and more bitter side as a result of the life he was born into. But he hides this well, and at the end of the day, he has his friends best interests at heart and wants nothing more than to protect those that he loves.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Sugata is fine.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
It depends on what type of shoes I'm wearing. I can go without, if necessary, though.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
Several hours.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
Not really.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
I'm not particularly interested in domesticating any wild animal, but if it were necessary to choose . . . perhaps something large and cute? Something that would make Wako smile.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
No. If I was, I wouldn't be able to protect those I care about.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
I wouldn't say I have a favorite since you can eat cake with a variety of things, and I'm willing to use whatever is available. A fork is the most common utensil I use, though.

08. Do you trust yourself?
Generally, yes.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Why would I do that? If I told you, I wouldn't be the only one that knows.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
Yes. I can just imagine the fuss they'd kick up, too.

Re: Thor Odinson | Marvel Cinematic Universe

[personal profile] aragorn 2012-05-14 12:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Thor Odinson
Canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe (Thor / The Avengers)
Reference Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thor_%28movie%29 for the most Thor-related stuff

Character History: Once upon a time, the gods walked on earth, and all knew it. These ‘gods’, actually the people of Asgard, fought a fierce war to drive OTHER other-wordly beings, the Frost Giants of Jotunheim, out of the realm of Earth. Odin, king of Asgard, fought hard for this peace, and raised two sons with the idea of one of them ruling Asgard in his stead one day. Thor was one of those sons, and the one most ready to ascend the throne. On the day Thor was about to be declared king, some nasty business happened with Frost Giants and Thor went barrelling off to attack the hell out of them. Thor, arrogant and far too eager for the rage of battle, was summarily stripped of his power and status and hurled across space to crash land on Earth.

Stranded on a strange world, Thor was picked up by a roving band of scientists, including one Jane Foster, who decide to help him out a bit. During his time on Earth, Thor learned that only ever doing things his way, and ignoring all advice, was not the best way to do things. Constantly thwarted in his attempts to regain his power and godly hammer, and manipulated by his brother Loki, he eventually understood that some humility and maturity go a long way, and that war is not the answer to everything. He even made the ultimate sacrifice, taking a fatal hit to save his mortal friends - which luckily proved that he was worthy of his power, and it was returned to him. Coming face to face with Loki, who had engineered all this trouble, lead him to destroy the passageway between worlds to save them from Loki’s wrongdoings... sadly losing his brother in the process.

Until the sequel, anyway, where Thor joins a team of heroes to once again thwart the Earth’s destruction.

Personality: Thor grew up assured of the knowledge that one day he would be king of Asgard. As a result, he was kind of an arrogant tool, always eager to rush into a fight and smash the almighty hell out of his enemies. He was quick to anger, and hardheaded to the point of disaster, as he found when he reignited war between Asgard and Jotunheim. This is not to say that Thor has ill-intentions: it’s more that consequences were not a thing that occurred to him until very recently. He had a particular open, straightforward charm, and a group of loyal friends, but if there’s one thing you can’t accuse Thor of, it’s overthinking matters.

Having spent some time in exile without his powers, Thor now knows that there is more value in thinking actions through and not being so hasty to attack. He is now more aware of what damage his actions can cause, and is willing to lay his life on the line to defend others. After being brought to the depths of despair when he thought his father dead and his exile permanent, Thor can now appreciate peace, and doesn’t chase glory with the brashness he once did. Of course, he is still Thor, and still has a particularly forceful, overstated way of doing things. He is way more likely to do heavy-hitting than strategizing. He will always hold out hope that his brother Loki will come to his senses, and feels remorse over the other’s descent into the occasional unhinged villainy, as he truly wants nothing more than for Loki to come home and work things out.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
I would have you call me Thor, my rightful name.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
I do not think it necessary. It is far more important to wear armor, and boots, and to have my weapon than to wear socks. They are not unappreciated, however.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
I do not recall exactly, as it must have been when I was asleep. These are some strange questions you ask.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
No. ...but I know it can happen. And it is a sad thing, to learn that your family thinks poorly of you, and would take action to cause you and others harm. For my own part, I harbour no suspicions. They usually make it quite plain, now.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
To hunt and bend a dragon to my will would be most glorious, if possibly a folly … though I have heard that the Midgardian shrew is fiercely difficult to tame.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
It would give me pause. Moreso now, than before, when I did not notice such things nearly enough. But to be incapacitated would be shameful, when there are people to defend from the cause of their despair. I would drive back those that try to crush them.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
A plate will serve.

08. Do you trust yourself?
Of course. And were I not trustworthy, there are many people who would tell me so, and then I would change.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
What is the meaning of these questions? If you mean to say that I’m treacherous then I will have no part in it. I know my wrongs and I have been punished for them. I will say no more.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
I would hope so.

Character Name: (Commander) Jane Shepard
Canon: Mass Effect
Reference Link: Mass Effect Wiki | Picture 1 | Picture 2

Character History: Aged sixteen, Shepard's homeworld was attacked by Batarian slavers. A lot of colonists were enslaved, many more massacred. She was one of a small handful of people who managed to escape from the slaughter, rescued by an Alliance ground-team. Aged eighteen, she enlisted in the Alliance and started her training as an 'Infiltrator', a class of soldier specializing in both tech and combat. Six years later she served on a planet called Elysium during the 'Skyllian Blitz' where she single-handedly defended her squad after a breach in their defenses. For this, she was promoted to Commander and awarded the 'Star of Terra' for her bravery.

Shepard and her crew discovered that a race of giant, sentient machines ('Reapers') were on course to harvest all advanced organic life in the universe in what was known as a 'cycle', an occurrence that happened every 50,000 years. Though Shepard tried her hardest to warn people about the Reapers imminent arrival, very few people believed her. Frustrated by this, Shepard took matters into her own hands and set about delaying and preparing for the attack. She chased down a rogue Spectre who was working with the Reapers and stopped him from taking over the Citadel, she died in an attack by a race of aliens called 'Collectors' and was brought back to life by a pro-human splinter group (considered terrorists by many) and sent to wipe the Collectors out.

Though Shepard tried her best, she and the rest of the galaxy were still ill-prepared for the Reaper's arrival. She fled Earth in the initial attack to try and get help. The other races of the galaxy were uncooperative, preferring to use the time the Reapers were distracted with Earth to prepare themselves. After uniting the galaxy and resolving centuries-old conflicts between certain races, the Normandy (Shepard's ship) returned to Earth backed by thousands of alien ships. On arrival, Shepard was ordered to London to fight with and boost the morale of the ground-troops that had been holding out against the Reapers from the initial attack. In the final charge against the Reapers, Shepard took a direct hit from a laser and was badly injured, temporarily losing consciousness. After coming around, she managed to pull herself up and get to her objective, activating a super-weapon known as 'The Crucible' and destroying the Reapers. The explosion that activated the blast was supposed to kill her, but she somehow managed to survive, seen in a cutscene at the endgame taking a single breath from under the rubble of what is currently assumed to be London. This is where I'm pulling her out.

Personality: Shepard is a very intimidating woman, her manor screams of military discipline. She is in fact someone who is so used to scaring people away because of her status that she's become quite awkward in social situations with 'normal' people, trying her best to fit in as just another marine rather than the legendary Commander Shepard. Those who do approach her will find her to be a quiet but kind person who tends to forge very strong friendships. She's also very protective of those that she cares for, willing to go out on a limb to help them with their troubles and takes any insults or attacks against them personally (unless they're well deserved).

She has always been very objective-oriented and tends to become restless if she has to just sit on her hands. As much as she hates it, after fifteen years of military service she needs to keep busy, to have a goal to work towards. All her time in the Alliance has taught her several things she is grateful for, though. Like how to handle difficult people. She has a silver tongue and, in canon, usually managed to talk people down or shame them into helping her. However, if that doesn't work and it's imperative things go her way, she's a strong woman that isn't afraid or above using intimidation or dishing out a beating.

Shepard does not take failure well and usually shoulders all the blame herself. Towards the end of the series, Shepard is both physically and mentally exhausted and after been beaten by a Cerberus operative called Kai Leng the cracks in her armor started to show through. She suffers nightmares, plagued by the voices of dead friends and the child that she tried to help but died before her eyes when she was escaping Earth. Though she'll be hard pressed to discuss it, she's pining for her crew, desperate to see them again, to make sure they're okay. Her head is full of questions about what happened after she blacked out, questions that will no doubt go unanswered.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Shepard.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
. . . Yes.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
Never thought about it. I've spent the last fifteen years aboard various ships, surrounded by crew. Can't be more than a few hours.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
No.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
I have a hamster. That's as wild and exciting as I like for a pet.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
I wouldn't say incapacitated, but I'll step in and help a person if they need me to.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
Odd question. I haven't had cake in years. A fork, probably.

08. Do you trust yourself?
I know what I can do and what my limits are.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
I once pushed a guy out of a window. I don't know how many storeys high it was, but it was high enough that I didn't hear him hit the pavement. He was an uncooperative merc, so depends on who you ask whether it was a crime or not.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
My crew, I mean. . . friends. My friends would miss me.

Character Name: The Eleventh Doctor.
Canon: Doctor Who.
Reference Link: Wiki link for the Doctor / and for Eleven specifically

Character History: The Doctor was born on the planet of Gallifrey. After the test of looking into the Untempered Schism, a crack in space and time, he was accepted into the Academy for young Time Lords where he was trained into duty and spent about a hundred years (a Time Lord adolescence) learning about the universe and how best to be its guardian.

Unusually brilliant even for his species, the Doctor quickly rose through the ranks. As he grew older, he took the moniker of The Doctor. Eventually he stole a clunky old TARDIS (one of the living time/space machines Time Lords traveled in) and broke free of the Academy to adventure across the universe. Mostly what he did was find a human to tag along with him - the first one was his grand-daughter, Susan Foreman - and explore the universe, always willing to get caught up in trouble or fix problems when they arose. His companions throughout the years were a variety of (mostly) young (mostly) human (mostly) women, and they kept him in check when his arrogance got the better of him, and stopped him being too lonely.

After about 600 years and multiple regenerations, the Doctor was conscripted to fight in the Time War that was raging throughout time and space. He fought with the Time Lords against the Daleks (angry Nazi pepperpots) and watched as endless war took its toll; both on the lesser lifeforms caught up in its grand scale, and on his people as they became more desperate and crazed and less and less empathic. Eventually the Doctor ended the Time War by destroying both sides; committing mass genocide against the Daleks and the people, and he watched his planet burn.

Now the last of his kind, the Doctor kept traveling went on, sad and alone, feeling like he destroyed everything he touched and filled with Existential Angst. He made some questionable moral decisions and almost went to a very dark place, but regenerated into a man who embodied his more childlike qualities: his Eleventh incarnation.

Personality:
The Doctor's personality changes with every regeneration into a new self. However, he is always adventurous and curious. His intelligence means he can come off as a bit of a geek and his heritage makes him arrogant. There isn't a lot he is afraid of, and he carries a lot of the baggage of his previous regenerations; lost loves, lost species, etc. He is almost always someone who would try to do good, and never the kind of person that would stick around to get thanked (or deal with the clean-up.)

Overall, he's a lot more abrupt than his recent incarnations were; his body language is very in your face and in your space, and he is unabashedly alien, occasionally showing off his intelligence or technology or abilities with a bit of melodramatic flair. Neither does he hide his emotions unless it is for the greater good, usually free with his anger and glee. He'll happily boast about his reputation, his feats, his achievements. This arrogance also means he will not stand to be manipulated or told what to do. He loves shocking people, and he challenges people to meet him on their own terms.

Eleven tends to give people the tools to be brilliant and then stand back and see what they do. But then when people don't meet his expectations or do as he says he can get testy. He's rude and doesn't feel the need to mince words when he doesn't have to, and is very willing to remind humans of their own flaws. But he's never really cruel. He doesn't seem to give second chances and while he has a short temper it usually appears in a brief storm of yelling then dissipates. Though he has shed many of his earlier incarnations' guilt complexes, he doesn't enjoy being belittled, either. But then, who does?

Despite this, Eleven is the most self-deprecating of the Doctors: while the character has always displayed traits of self-disgust on occasion, particularly after the genocide of the Time Lords and the loss of companions, Eleven genuinely seems to believe he is not a good man and is willing to list his flaws and his failures. There is an entire episode (Amy's Choice) which revolves around the idea that no-one else in the entire universe hates the Doctor as much as he hates himself.

Finally, he really seems to love adventure, especially the improvisation of it, throwing himself into it with a childlike recklessness (that often hides a grander scheme) and a shout of: Geronimo! Like with all the other Doctor's, when you travel with Eleven, there will always be a lot of running.

Character Name: Gareki
Canon: Karneval
Reference Link: series / character

Character History:

At the age of eight, an unnamed boy was sold into slavery. By a combination of luck and guts, he soon escaped and was taken in by a poor but pure-hearted woman named Tsubaki. Although she was already single handedly supporting her younger siblings and their infirm grandfather, Tsubaki and her relatives welcomed the boy into their lives, christening him Gareki. But of course the story didn’t end there, and it wasn’t long before Tsubaki was found dead under mysterious circumstances. Shortly thereafter, Gareki ran away to the city to start collecting money to send home. He did this the only way he knew how: by founding a gang of thieves with a penchant for dangerous explosives. Since this isn’t exactly the kind of thing you’d want your family involved in, Gareki deliberately estranged himself from them and cut off all contact beyond anonymous “donations.”

Such was the state of Gareki’s life when he met Nai, a clueless young boy who happened to have found an ID belonging to Circus, the country’s top defensive unit. At first, Gareki’s plan is to steal the ID and sell it himself, but he soon becomes caught up in Nai’s quest for the bracelet’s mysterious owner. Before either of them quite knows what’s happened they’ve become permanent guests on board Circus’ Second Ship.

Although he intends to use Circus as a cash cow and the means to his ultimate goal-- revenge on whoever or whatever killed Tsubaki --Gareki soon finds himself involved in an ongoing struggle between Circus and “Kafka,” an organization dedicated to the creation of Post-Humans (aka cannibal mutant monsters.) As time goes on, he begins to form reluctant bonds with his fellow crewmates, and to see Circus as a potential new home.

Personality:

As might be expected after years of abandonment and criminal activities, Gareki has a few issues with trust. He’s got the street-smart loner act down to an art, and would claim that people are better off (and safest) when they’re alone. Brusque, taciturn and rude, he keeps a deliberate distance between himself and the world and strives to see others as pawns, rationalizing that others would do the same to him. Despite his many missions with the Second Ship’s crew, he refuses to acknowledge any of them as friends; the closest he comes is calling Nai “a necessary acquaintance.”

Unsurprisingly, much of this is an act. Gareki may have deliberately cut all ties with his last family, but he still has a deep-seated, childishly simple desire to belong somewhere. He finds this incredibly embarrassing and will snap if the subject is broached, claiming that he doesn’t need or want anybody, but this is mostly a defense mechanism.

When it comes down to it, Gareki’s not a bad guy. He does his best to listen to people’s honest opinions and to offer help. His ideas on “life lessons” might be a little harsh, but he’s also quick to stand up and defend those who are close to him, no matter how clueless they may be. In fact, as his connection to Circus has solidified he’s become quite desperate to be included in any fight.

As a fighter, Gareki has quick mental reflexes on his side, keeps his head in tense situations, and can hack, break, or bomb his way out of almost anything. It’s extremely galling to him that for all this, he’s still a comparative weakling. Now that he’s begun to forge new connections he’s prepared to go to great lengths to become stronger . . . though this hasn’t improved his attitude at all. Hey, he’s a textbook tsundere, you don’t get rid of that baggage easily.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
My name. If you call me “hey you” or anything like that I won’t answer.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
No, but I need shoes. Walking around without them is just asking to slice your foot open on something.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
A couple of days, I guess? There’s not a lot of reason to talk when you live alone. Besides, I don’t speak when it’s not necessary.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
For your information, being suspicious is how you keep yourself safe. I’m not saying it’s anything personal, but it pays to be careful. And by the way I don’t have a family, so thanks for bringing that up.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
Pets are nothing but trouble, so I’ll leave the wildlife where it is. But if I had to pick... I guess something that could take care of itself would be okay. Maybe a fox?

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
What is with these questions? Okay since you ask, I’m not. So don’t go torturing any people or animals while I’m around!

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
If it’s just an example, can I get something other than cake? It’s not really my favorite.

08. Do you trust yourself?
Of course I trust myself! What are you implying? You think I’m a weakling or something?

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Who confesses to a crime they haven’t even been accused of? Come back when you have something you can pin on me, will you?!

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
… I don’t know. Maybe for a little bit, but I’m pretty sure they’d all get over it.

Character Name: Simca
Canon: Air Gear
Reference Link: Here Oh wait, I mean Here

Character History: Nominally, the whole of Air Gear is about an epic tournament to gain the rarest part in the world necessary to making the bitchingest rollerblade in the history of ever. This of course must necessarily involve bodyswaps, nudist cults, holograms AIs, and epic shounen battles fought on aircraft carriers and jet planes. A test tube baby, born and bred to use said high powered roller blades, Simca and her siblings escaped from their test tube life at a young age because they had the ultimate rollerblade powers so why the hell not. They generally cavorted as science experiment teenagers do until there was a critical dissent among the ranks about just what a motley band of teens should do with their epic power skates. Splitting off into different teams, Simca goes along with who would become the series big bad until they discover the super shounen protagonist Minami Itsuki. Upon meeting Ikki, Simca instantly recognizes in him the 'sky' and his ability to spread the power of flight (via rollerblades) to all the people of the world and quickly sets about allying herself with his team, doing whatever is necessary to promote the victory of his middling band of high school hoodlums. Though she's beaten up and paralyzed by her love rival, regains the ability to walk within mere months through sheer shounen force of will, and even winds up captured and sometimes molested by previously aforementioned big bad, throughout all of this Simca never loses her will and determination to see to it that Ikki is victorious and obtains the best damn rollerblades for the sake of all rollerblades, the end. Did I mention Air Gear is drawn by Oh!Great?

Personality: At first glance, Simca comes off as incredibly perky, up beat, and optimistic. She's easy to smile, easy to trust those she believes in, and definitely not above using her wiles to get what she wants. This laid back attitude can at times belie a hidden strength and determination that sees Simca through all of her goals. When the situation calls for it, she's very capable of shedding her levity and getting down to business to put people in line or punch faces in. Carefree, flirtatious, and at times completely dangerous, Simca wants nothing more than to do everything in her power to grant Ikki his victory so that he can give his sky to all the AT riders of the world.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
I've been called a couple things in my life. Migratory Bird, Simca of the Swallow. You can call me just Simca, though.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
It's a lot easier to feel the wind without them on. I think I'll pass.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
Do you mean complete silence, I wonder? There's always a breeze fluttering through, or someone's singing faraway. It's really very hard to be completely silent, you know. Even if we're not talking our bodies can speak well enough for us~ I don't think I've ever gone a moment without it!

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
Aha, I don't think anyone~ would ever try something like that~ I'm very well aware of what they're up to.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
I have a pet swallow named Messerschmidt. He's adorable~ Sometimes I take him out to fly with me.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
Just what kind of a question is that? I don't like to see it, of course. Standing by and watching others suffer isn't something that helps them or gives them the freedom that they yearn for. But I won't let things like that stop me, no.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
If it's a cake then it's definitely a fork. One of the cute petite ones.

08. Do you trust yourself?
Sometimes I think people can be lost, even from themselves. If there's a powerful wind that blows you can find yourself swept away in that current until you're not sure where or who you are. I've been that way before, but I've found the way to fly on that wind now. I trust myself, don't worry.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
If I listed something like that here then you'd find my secrets, wouldn't you? I think it's good for a girl to have some secrets just to herself.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
Of course. There's Ine, my brother. I'm sure Crow-kun would miss me terribly as well. I'd hate to make him upset like that again.

Character Name: Kuroba Kaito
Canon: Detective Conan/Magic Kaito
Reference Link: Kaito Wiki! | Magic Kaito Wiki! | Detective Conan Wiki!

It's a wiki party /o/

Character History: KAITO IS BATMAN-- well, no, not really. But he did spend a good portion of his childhood growing up with a famous magician for a father that he admired more than anything in the world. Kuroba Toichi was unquestionably talented at what he did, so when he was killed in a stage accident during one of his magic shows, nine-year-old Kuroba Kaito was devastated. The young boy spent the next eight years perfecting his own sleight-of-hand in order to rival his father in talent, and by the time he was seventeen, his own magic surpassed that of many professional stage magicians. For a while there, it seemed like Kaito had overcome the tragedy of his father's death. . . but then he stumbled across a hidden room behind a portrait in his own house.

In that room, he discovered a secret that Toichi had taken to his grave: the deceased magician had moonlighted as Japan's most infamous phantom thief, Kaitou Kid. Confused at this turn of events, Kaito donned the hat and cape in order to find out what really happened to his father eight years ago. What he discovered wasn't exactly comforting: Toichi had been deliberately murdered, not killed in an accident. Angry and hurt that he went so long believing a lie, Kaito decided to revive Kaitou Kid in order to draw out his father's murderers and exact upon them the justice they deserved for killing his old man. Throughout his adventures as the phantom thief clad in white, he found out that Toichi had been killed over a gem called Pandora-- a stone that shed immortality-granting tears to whomever drank them during the passing of a certain comet. Kaito then vowed to find this gem before the organization that offed his dad did, essentially completing his transformation to wannabe Batman in white.

Personality: Kaito is essentially. . . a dumb boy. Which isn't to say he's not smart-- he's actually very intelligent underneath all of his dumb boy antics. It's just that he is far too smart for his own good, so fairly simple things (such as school) bore him. He's always searching for ways to alleviate this boredom by coming up with creative magic effects, and he isn't beyond showing these talents off to his classmates. He has basically been deemed the 'class clown' of his grade, the magician who brings magic effects to school, plays pranks on his fellow classmates, and snarks at his teachers. He can been bluntly rude (calling Aoko flat-chested), exceedingly grumpy when people pick on him (despite the fact that he picks on people all the time), and he has more than enough confidence to spare (he is not above calling himself the 'Greatest magician in the world'). But while Kaito is the confident dumb boy trickster who will poke at people for reactions just to see what happens, he isn't all flair and dramatics. He has shown the ability to realize when he's pushed the envelope too far, and is more than willing to offer a helping hand to those who might need it. He doesn't describe himself as a vigilante (he actually outright rejects the concept), but he's more vigilante-like than he thinks he is. . . his motives for being Kaitou Kid are selfish, but he honestly does want to help people and will go out of his way to do so. Aoko has described him as 'cold, but sweet'-- someone who is grouchy but can still be surprisingly thoughtful when you least expect it.

And beyond the chaotic dumb teenage boy-ness that is Kaito, there is Kaitou Kid. Kid says a lot about Kaito's abilities to act and lie, for you would never suspect that the two were one and the same. Kid is much more graceful and enigmatic. . . he enjoys speaking in riddles and sounds a lot more adult-like than Kaito. Kid is calculating and very smart, a thief who can plan elaborate heists-performances and still not be caught. He pushes his rivals into being the best they can be and enjoys the challenge of a chase. There is definitely bleed over from Kaito to Kid because they are the same person, and Kid is just a character Kaito plays for his performances. But when Kaito has the Kid facade on, it's almost eerie how every dumb boy part of Kaito seems to disappear. . .

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
. . . if? I'm pretty sure there's not supposed to be an 'if' in that question. Kuroba is fine. Kaito, for those who prefer to skip the formalities. Together, they make Kuroba Kaito, world's greatest magician! And don't you forget it.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
If I say yes, are you going to steal them from me?

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
Does sleeping count as 'mandatory?' Otherwise, I dunno. A few minutes? I don't do voluntary silence well.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
Ha ha ha. . . 'Course not! I trust those close to me well enough, and I don't see why they'd go out of their ways to do something like that.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
A dinosaur. C'mon, how cool would that be?

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
Why are you even-- No. Not incapacitated. But it's something I'd rather avoid, if I can.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
Who cares? As long as it ends up in my mouth somehow!

08. Do you trust yourself?
Absolutely. Who wouldn't trust this face~?

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
. . . oi. My criminal record is perfectly clean, thank you. And even if it wasn't, who the heck would actually answer this?

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
You really like the creepy questions, don't you? Yes, I'm pretty sure there are several people who would, so don't get any funny idea.

Kumagawa Misogi || Medaka Box

[personal profile] misterious 2012-05-19 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Misogi Kumagawa
Canon: Medaka Box
Reference Link: http://medakabox.wikia.com/wiki/Misogi_Kumagawa
Character History: Kumagawa enters as an antagonist, at odds with the super-perfect and super-positive Student Council President, Kurokami Medaka. As an individual who has never known a blessing of any kind, he is simultaneously in love with and resentful of her very existence, struggling to both capture her essence and destroy her. Eventually, he rallies a crew to overthrow Medaka’s student council and gets the one-on-one battle with he’d been waiting all his life for. After giving it his 110% and still getting a sound ass-kicking that ends in words of encouragement from his rival, he contentedly admits defeat.

But things don’t end there. Medaka makes Kumagawa her vice-president, the only position she hadn’t filled and a fitting one for someone meant to question and keep her on her toes. Even when he’s on the side of the “good guys,” he still maintains much of his unsavory qualities; channeling them into a force to aid the student council. In the most recent arc, Medaka’s presidential term has ended and Kumagawa joins her in a fight against her 6 suitors in exchange for getting to see her in nothing but apron.

Personality: Kumagawa is a self-professed good-for-nothing with a bad personality; lacking innate talent, luck and drive. What he does have in his arsenal is a very intimate knowledge of weakness that allows him to handle things that would leave others in despair. He’s used to having his kindness trampled on, constant failure and being hated, so he lets it roll off his back in a cheerfully self-effacing way. He can also apply his expertise to achieving an objective: whether with fists or soul-shattering words, he goes straight for the jugular with zero hesitation. And he’ll do it with a smile on his face.

In fact, he smiles at everything, laughing in the face of misery and in spite of his own bitterness. He doesn’t care if he looks uncool or ends up playing the fool, and goes all-in when all the odds are stacked against him. Since he’s incapable of even visualizing himself winning, one more defeat would suck, but ultimately means nothing to him. He’ll just get back up and plow forward, smiling through it all. Which isn’t to suggest that he can’t achieve victory in some form: the way he ruthlessly targets weak points, lies and cheats make him terrifyingly effective, but he’ll never feel like he’s won. More often than not, his undoing is a concession made to please a cute girl. He shamelessly loves the ladies, openly declaring how he’d like to see them in their underwear or nothing but an apron.

He’s also fond of Shounen Jump, meta and has a very annoying speech quirk: everything he says is in Japanese quotation brackets. ⎡LIKE SO!⎦

Writing Sample:
01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
⎡Whoa, I've never been given a choice before! Just Kumagawa is fine! Even if you say I can choose whatever I like, I don't think I could ask for anything more personal than that.⎦

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
⎡I can do without them, if they're not! But that makes me curious: why socks? Does the creator of this survey have a foot fetish? That’s a pretty selfish move... Honestly, I can’t fault them for it, but how about helping the rest of us out by replacing the ladies' uniform with an apron? Nothing else. That’d be great!⎦

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
⎡I wouldn't know! I've never tested myself. Probably as long as it takes to read through an issue of Shounen Jump.⎦

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
⎡AHAHA... I fully expect them to do that, but I wouldn't say I'm "plagued" by it. I accept it for what it is. I'm not supposed to be liked, anyway.⎦

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
⎡Whatever's easiest! I'm not so good with animals.⎦

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
⎡On the contrary, I live and breathe for it! Although if it’s a girl, I’d much rather see her cute smile.⎦

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
⎡It's just nice to have flatware at all, really.⎦

08. Do you trust yourself?
⎡I don't know! I guess I do! But it's often said a man's worst enemy is himself, so maybe not... I guess we'll have to see!⎦

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
⎡If I did that, then it wouldn't be something only I knew about anymore. I might not be smart, but even I can figure out that much!⎦

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
⎡I'd hope so! It'd really hurt if anyone didn't, but I can forgive that. I'm only a supporting cast member, after all!⎦

Steve Rogers / Captain America [1/1]

Character Name: Steve Rogers / Captain America
Canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe (Captain America / The Avengers)
Reference Link: http://marvel-movies.wikia.com/wiki/Steve_Rogers

Character History: Steve Rogers started out as just another ordinary guy. Or - well - “less” of an ordinary guy in some ways, but considerably more in the ways that really counted. Inspired by his parents, who had both served in the US Army (and died while on duty), Steve applied to be a soldier during WWII no less than five times - and was turned down four out of those five times, for one reason: Steve just wasn’t physically fit for duty. He was short, asthmatic, and generally unable to cope with the rigors of army life, despite his stout heart. Not to be deterred, Rogers applied for the fifth time - and this time he got in. Not because his physical shape had improved overnight; rather, he attracted the attention of one Dr. Erskine, who was in charge of developing a super-soldier serum for the US. Erskine believed that a weak but good man like Steve would be the best candidate for their test run, and made sure that Steve was the one chosen for the job. And he was right: Rogers was a complete success. The serum permanently altered his physical form (and some aspects of his genetic code - the science is kind of fuzzy), making him a pinnacle of human achievement. Steve’s abilities never exceeded the limits of human potential, but they came pretty damn close.

Unfortunately, the doctor who made him this way perished immediately after Steve’s transformation. As a result, Steve was only one extremely talented man, not the army that the US wanted. He wound up selling war bonds and starring in propaganda pieces for a while, helping support the war from the domestic side of the front. However, after a morale booster in Italy, he found out that his long-time friend Bucky Barnes was being held captive behind the front lines. Ignoring the army’s orders to stay out of the situation, he leapt in, rescued all the soldiers, and returned successfully. With this, the army realized that they had a genuine superhero on their hands for the first time in history. Steve then matched up against Hydra, an offshoot of the Nazis whose obsession with the supernatural caused them to get their hands on the Tesseract, a plot macguffin with infinite power. As Captain America, Steve managed to prevent Hydra from massacring the Eastern seaboard with a deadly secret weapon … at the cost of everything he knew and loved. He was forced to crash the jet into the ocean, where he was frozen for nearly 70 years.

But that wasn’t the end of Steve’s story. He was pulled out of the ice and thawed, where it was discovered that he was in just the same condition as he was back in 1943. Some combination of the low temperatures and the super-soldier serum made it so that he went into a state of cryogenic sleep instead of dying in the crash. When he was thawed out, he found himself in the care of SHIELD - and adrift in a world that he no longer recognized. He had some difficulty adapting to this new environment until (finally) Nick Fury came to him with a mission: join the Avengers and save the world from an alien invasion. Which he did.

Due to the … weird … interaction between the Enrichment Center’s cloning process and the super soldier serum, Steve will arrive in the Center as his 90-pound-weakling self - mostly. The serum process did alter his genetic structure somewhat, given the fact that he had quite a bit of it removed from his system to no ill effect; it’s implied that his body has been fundamentally altered to produce it. However, the cloning process reduces him to his baseline, which is the aforementioned 90-pound-weakling. Given time and training he will rebuild his strength to an acceptable powercapped baseline. He’ll also eventually get taller. But only if he eats his greens and doesn’t get killed and have to start all over again in a new body. Science! (This serum can’t be extracted and used on someone else, nor can it boost him up past an ordinary level of fitness. No near-superhuman feats like he does in canon.)

Personality: Steve is a good man, first and foremost. Even when his physical frame was weak, his heart was always incredibly strong - or bullheadedly stubborn, depending on your perspective. Steve Rogers is a guy who just doesn’t know when to quit. Don’t tell him that he’s outmatched or outgunned; that just makes him all the more ready to buckle down and find a way through. As someone who was weak all his life, Steve is someone who really values strength - but not power. He’s got no tolerance for bullies and people who mouth off in harmful ways, which constantly got him into fistfights before his serum treatment. (Banter is fine as long as it’s not just passive-aggressive sniping.) Steve is also deeply compassionate towards the weak. His role as Captain America is one that revolves around protection, not just killing Nazis (or aliens) in the face. Faced with the choice to sacrifice himself to protect his comrades or kill a threat, Steve will always choose self sacrifice. Especially if the threat can be handled in some other way after he’s done what’s necessary. This is not to say that he can’t recognize other people’s strengths or let someone else take a bullet every now and then. He doesn’t like it, but he also realizes that stressful situations often require a lot out of everyone - and if it’s someone else’s turn to redirect a nuke into space, then godspeed to that brave soul.

That being said, Steve is a little old-fashioned in a lot of ways. He’s honest to a fault and a little naïve too, especially when it comes to the US Government not being a paragon of sweetness and light. He does recognize that there is darkness in the world, however, and really doesn’t have much patience for folks who aren’t going to play nice with their team. He also doesn’t have much patience with antihero playboy philanthropists either, but at least in that case he recognized inner goodness and rolled with it. Steve is also a soldier type through and through. When given a reasonable order he follows it, no questions asked. (This probably won’t apply to homicidal robots, however.) He also doesn’t take distractions very well when he’s single-mindedly focused on a task, especially something as important as “save the world” or “find a way out of this test.”

Steve will have some difficulty coping with being back in his weak body, but he also won’t give up hope - that’s not how he rolls. He’ll continue to train his body as much as he can and give his team support from the sidelines, especially when it comes to strategy. He won’t necessarily lead his team if someone else already has that covered, but he’s willing to fill that role if they need him.

Writing Sample:
01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Call me Steve. Or Captain, if you want to be formal.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Whatever’s regulation, ma’am. Though I can tell you boots get pretty uncomfortable without them.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
Almost a whole day. I guess … I had some difficulty figuring out what to do after I woke up. So I spent the whole day down in SHIELD’s training room with some MREs and a half dozen punching bags.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
That would be unfair to other people, ma’am. Besides, I don’t think I have any real family left who are still alive. And coworkers … They’re straightforward about what they think about me. Especially Tony.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
… I’ve never had a pet. Military family, moved around too much, spent a long time asleep, that sort of thing. If I thought I could take care of a bald eagle or some kind of bird of prey, I might choose that.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
Affected? Yes. Of course. I’d do a lot to reduce their misery if I could, especially if they can’t fix the situation themselves. But incapacitated? No. It’s my job not to be. Not when I can be solving the problem.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
A … plate? Do people use something fancier in the future?

08. Do you trust yourself?
Of course. I have to.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
When I was a kid, I once stole some penny candy from a shop down the street from our apartment. I ended up returning the candy and apologizing the the store owner afterwards. Not that it makes up for stealing in the first place.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
Only a few people, directly. But indirectly, there’s a lot of people who’d be affected. Being a “superhero” changes the scale of who “misses” your absence.

Dio Eraclea | Last Exile

[personal profile] gaignun 2012-05-19 10:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Dio Eraclea
Canon: Last Exile
Reference Link: Last Exile / Dio

Character History: The Guild rules the (artificial) world, known as Prester, Delphine Eraclea is Maestro of the Guild and Dio Eraclea is her younger brother. Trapped by his sister's ruthless, tyrannical rule, Dio simply lived doing as he pleased, as once his seventeenth birthday arrived, his freedom and his sense of self were to be forcefully taken away. A skilled pilot catches his interest, and on a whim Dio follows him onto a battleship planning to take the Guild down. Dio doesn't particularly care about those plans as he has no love for his sister or the Guild, and simply hangs around on the ship for his own amusement. Eventually, he integrates with the crew and becomes part of their little happy family, wishing he could stay with them for good and not have to return home to a life he never wanted and a controlling sister he always feared.

Unfortunately, his sister seeks him out, drags him back home and brainwashes him, a terrible ordeal resulting in a completely wiped memory and personality. Dio escapes, rescued by his friends, though at the sacrifice of the person most important to him. Eventually, Dio regains his memories, and with Delphine and the Guild taken down and the people of Prester finally free, he rejoins them on Earth. For the people of Prester finally discovered the truth behind their hourglass world in space and left it to return to their original home.

Situated on their home planet two years later, a new battle breaks out between the domineering Ades Federation and the rest of the world, Dio's home of Anatoray included. With promises to keep and loved ones to protect, Dio makes moves beneficial to his allies and leaps into the battlefield to fight, keeping the key to Antoray's most powerful asset safe - a girl named Alvis who is much like a younger sister to him. Those in the Ades Federation who began these conflicts are eventually taken out, and a hopeful peace is made by all those who remain on a weakened planet.

Personality:
At face value, Dio is flighty, cheerfully childish and somewhat eccentric. Much like a bird, he soars through the skies with an air of wonder and freedom around him. Both his occasionally overbearing disregard for personal space and privacy, as well as the aura of sincere love for his life and freedom that surrounds him stem from the same thing. Dio was raised in the most privileged atmosphere one could be raised in as part of the Guild. As a result, his tendencies, as well-meaning as they are, can occasionally show signs of a long, somewhat spoiled life of doing as he pleased, and he comes off as very self-assured about things. But more importantly than that - and more importantly than anything, really, is how that life affected his views and yearning for true freedom. For Dio was never truly free, always fearful and held within the oppressive, ruthless grasp of his older sister, who took control of his life and the world they all lived in after orchestrating the death of their parents and takeover of other prominent families when Dio was still a child. Because of his sister, Dio easily latches onto good people and good, joyful and fun things.

The flip side to that smiling, laughing young man is one considered a prodigy by his peers. Dio holds a vast knowledge on an array of subjects: strategy, mechanics, flying and air battle being a few prime examples. This leaves Dio with a thirst to constantly be active, engaged in some activity be it something simple and fun or something complex and mind-exercising (of course, if an activity pops ups that bores him, Dio isn't adverse to slack off and play hookey until something more interesting comes up), and he loves a challenge, especially so if he comes out as the winner. When the situation gets somber or grows hazardous is when you see that bright smile of his fade, and it's then you see Dio's serious, sometimes more dangerous side. Though he much prefers the freedom and the laughter to the fighting and the killing. Despite the fact that he causes many a sigh reaction with his jovial, immature-seeming antics, Dio is a trusted friend and ally to those he views in the same light. For they know that much like the old saying, you can't judge a book by its cover - and Dio's is bright and colorful but conceals a story of many chapters, emotions and talents, as well as a fierce dedication to the people he holds most dear.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Just 'Dio' is fine!

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Wouldn't that depend on the uniform? I think I'll play it safe and say yes, then! Just in case I need them later.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
Maybe a few hours...? Things get pretty boring if you sit there without saying anything for so long!

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
Not anymore! I trust the friends I've made.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
Anything similarly large and fast would be pretty fun, wouldn't it? And of course, something that can fly like one, too.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
I wouldn't go that far! That sort of thing is definitely not nice to see, though.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
I hope this question means we're getting cake after this! In that case, I'd like a fork.

08. Do you trust yourself?
You need to do that if you want others to trust you, right? And I want that.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
How ominous! If only I knew, that means it's supposed to be a secret! That wasn't outright saying I have any of those, either.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
Only if I didn't tell them I was leaving and didn't come back for a really long time! But if that happened, then I'm sure my friends would.
