Please read the rules regarding character appability.
CONTACT/TEAM PREFERENCES
A comment separate from your app with your name, email, and team preferences. Making it a separate comment lets us keep it screened, thus keeping your team preferences private.
For the time zone field, feel free to make a note if working bizarre hours makes you effectively on a different time zone than stated.
"Team preferences" is a catch-all field for any thoughts you might have regarding your character's placement. For example, you might want a team that will put up with your character's sociopathy, or has a certain "feel" to it, or is friendly to your time zone, or maybe you don't think your character looks good in orange, and so on! This is also the spot to let us know if there are teams you DON'T want to be on. While you're not required to put anything here, don't say you have no preference unless you really, honestly have NOTHING to say on the subject! If you've already apped and realized you'd forgotten something? Make another comment!
THE APP
Character Name: self-explanatory

1. Fill out an IC survey (copypaste below)
2. Write a first or third person sample on the subject of your choice. (~300-500 words)

Steve Rogers / Captain America [1/1]
Canon: Marvel Cinematic Universe (Captain America / The Avengers)
Reference Link: http://marvel-movies.wikia.com/wiki/Steve_Rogers
Character History: Steve Rogers started out as just another ordinary guy. Or - well - “less” of an ordinary guy in some ways, but considerably more in the ways that really counted. Inspired by his parents, who had both served in the US Army (and died while on duty), Steve applied to be a soldier during WWII no less than five times - and was turned down four out of those five times, for one reason: Steve just wasn’t physically fit for duty. He was short, asthmatic, and generally unable to cope with the rigors of army life, despite his stout heart. Not to be deterred, Rogers applied for the fifth time - and this time he got in. Not because his physical shape had improved overnight; rather, he attracted the attention of one Dr. Erskine, who was in charge of developing a super-soldier serum for the US. Erskine believed that a weak but good man like Steve would be the best candidate for their test run, and made sure that Steve was the one chosen for the job. And he was right: Rogers was a complete success. The serum permanently altered his physical form (and some aspects of his genetic code - the science is kind of fuzzy), making him a pinnacle of human achievement. Steve’s abilities never exceeded the limits of human potential, but they came pretty damn close.
Unfortunately, the doctor who made him this way perished immediately after Steve’s transformation. As a result, Steve was only one extremely talented man, not the army that the US wanted. He wound up selling war bonds and starring in propaganda pieces for a while, helping support the war from the domestic side of the front. However, after a morale booster in Italy, he found out that his long-time friend Bucky Barnes was being held captive behind the front lines. Ignoring the army’s orders to stay out of the situation, he leapt in, rescued all the soldiers, and returned successfully. With this, the army realized that they had a genuine superhero on their hands for the first time in history. Steve then matched up against Hydra, an offshoot of the Nazis whose obsession with the supernatural caused them to get their hands on the Tesseract, a plot macguffin with infinite power. As Captain America, Steve managed to prevent Hydra from massacring the Eastern seaboard with a deadly secret weapon … at the cost of everything he knew and loved. He was forced to crash the jet into the ocean, where he was frozen for nearly 70 years.
But that wasn’t the end of Steve’s story. He was pulled out of the ice and thawed, where it was discovered that he was in just the same condition as he was back in 1943. Some combination of the low temperatures and the super-soldier serum made it so that he went into a state of cryogenic sleep instead of dying in the crash. When he was thawed out, he found himself in the care of SHIELD - and adrift in a world that he no longer recognized. He had some difficulty adapting to this new environment until (finally) Nick Fury came to him with a mission: join the Avengers and save the world from an alien invasion. Which he did.
Due to the … weird … interaction between the Enrichment Center’s cloning process and the super soldier serum, Steve will arrive in the Center as his 90-pound-weakling self - mostly. The serum process did alter his genetic structure somewhat, given the fact that he had quite a bit of it removed from his system to no ill effect; it’s implied that his body has been fundamentally altered to produce it. However, the cloning process reduces him to his baseline, which is the aforementioned 90-pound-weakling. Given time and training he will rebuild his strength to an acceptable powercapped baseline. He’ll also eventually get taller. But only if he eats his greens and doesn’t get killed and have to start all over again in a new body. Science! (This serum can’t be extracted and used on someone else, nor can it boost him up past an ordinary level of fitness. No near-superhuman feats like he does in canon.)
Personality: Steve is a good man, first and foremost. Even when his physical frame was weak, his heart was always incredibly strong - or bullheadedly stubborn, depending on your perspective. Steve Rogers is a guy who just doesn’t know when to quit. Don’t tell him that he’s outmatched or outgunned; that just makes him all the more ready to buckle down and find a way through. As someone who was weak all his life, Steve is someone who really values strength - but not power. He’s got no tolerance for bullies and people who mouth off in harmful ways, which constantly got him into fistfights before his serum treatment. (Banter is fine as long as it’s not just passive-aggressive sniping.) Steve is also deeply compassionate towards the weak. His role as Captain America is one that revolves around protection, not just killing Nazis (or aliens) in the face. Faced with the choice to sacrifice himself to protect his comrades or kill a threat, Steve will always choose self sacrifice. Especially if the threat can be handled in some other way after he’s done what’s necessary. This is not to say that he can’t recognize other people’s strengths or let someone else take a bullet every now and then. He doesn’t like it, but he also realizes that stressful situations often require a lot out of everyone - and if it’s someone else’s turn to redirect a nuke into space, then godspeed to that brave soul.
That being said, Steve is a little old-fashioned in a lot of ways. He’s honest to a fault and a little naïve too, especially when it comes to the US Government not being a paragon of sweetness and light. He does recognize that there is darkness in the world, however, and really doesn’t have much patience for folks who aren’t going to play nice with their team. He also doesn’t have much patience with antihero playboy philanthropists either, but at least in that case he recognized inner goodness and rolled with it. Steve is also a soldier type through and through. When given a reasonable order he follows it, no questions asked. (This probably won’t apply to homicidal robots, however.) He also doesn’t take distractions very well when he’s single-mindedly focused on a task, especially something as important as “save the world” or “find a way out of this test.”
Steve will have some difficulty coping with being back in his weak body, but he also won’t give up hope - that’s not how he rolls. He’ll continue to train his body as much as he can and give his team support from the sidelines, especially when it comes to strategy. He won’t necessarily lead his team if someone else already has that covered, but he’s willing to fill that role if they need him.
Writing Sample:
01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Call me Steve. Or Captain, if you want to be formal.
02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Whatever’s regulation, ma’am. Though I can tell you boots get pretty uncomfortable without them.
03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
Almost a whole day. I guess … I had some difficulty figuring out what to do after I woke up. So I spent the whole day down in SHIELD’s training room with some MREs and a half dozen punching bags.
04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
That would be unfair to other people, ma’am. Besides, I don’t think I have any real family left who are still alive. And coworkers … They’re straightforward about what they think about me. Especially Tony.
05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
… I’ve never had a pet. Military family, moved around too much, spent a long time asleep, that sort of thing. If I thought I could take care of a bald eagle or some kind of bird of prey, I might choose that.
06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
Affected? Yes. Of course. I’d do a lot to reduce their misery if I could, especially if they can’t fix the situation themselves. But incapacitated? No. It’s my job not to be. Not when I can be solving the problem.
07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
A … plate? Do people use something fancier in the future?
08. Do you trust yourself?
Of course. I have to.
09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
When I was a kid, I once stole some penny candy from a shop down the street from our apartment. I ended up returning the candy and apologizing the the store owner afterwards. Not that it makes up for stealing in the first place.
10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
Only a few people, directly. But indirectly, there’s a lot of people who’d be affected. Being a “superhero” changes the scale of who “misses” your absence.
