CONTACT/TEAM PREFERENCES

A comment separate from your app with your name, email, and team preferences. Making it a separate comment lets us keep it screened, thus keeping your team preferences private.

For the time zone field, feel free to make a note if working bizarre hours makes you effectively on a different time zone than stated.

"Team preferences" is a catch-all field for any thoughts you might have regarding your character's placement. For example, you might want a team that will put up with your character's sociopathy, or has a certain "feel" to it, or is friendly to your time zone, or maybe you don't think your character looks good in orange, and so on! This is also the spot to let us know if there are teams you DON'T want to be on. While you're not required to put anything here, don't say you have no preference unless you really, honestly have NOTHING to say on the subject! If you've already apped and realized you'd forgotten something? Make another comment!

THE APP

Character Name: self-explanatory
Canon: If the canon has multiple versions, please be specific.
Reference Link: A wiki link is preferable, but anything that has a summary of the canon works. If there is no picture on your link, please provide a reference picture as well. If there is really nothing to link, write a short (no more than 200 words) description of the canon and character appearance.

Character History: A brief summary of your character's background. Only the highlights, please! This section should not be more than 300 words long.
Personality: Can be longer than the history, if necessary, but again, please try to be succinct.

Writing Sample: For this section, you have two choices:

1. Fill out an IC survey (copypaste below)
2. Write a first or third person sample on the subject of your choice. (~300-500 words)

Character Name: Melody Pond AKA River Song
Canon: Doctor Who
Reference Link: Doctor Who and River Song specifically (bottom left picture is her first body, bottom right is her first regeneration, top is her second and last regeneration)

Character History:
Melody Pond was taken from her mother, Amy, shortly after birth and turned into a weapon to assassinate the most dangerous man in the universe: the Doctor. She was raised on Earth, first living in an orphanage run by aliens. She was shot, but as she died she regenerated into a new body (she could do this thanks to being conceived on a time machine). She then grew up alongside Amy and Rory, her future parents (time travel makes everything complicated). When Amy grew up, she adventured with the Doctor and Melody heard about it. Eventually she decided it was time, and called the Doctor by making crop circle messages. Then she held him at gunpoint and forced him to take her to Nazi Germany to kill Hitler.

Hitler shot her and she was forced to regenerate into a new form, one that was very familiar to the Doctor, Amy and Rory. They'd met her before as an archeologist called River Song, who'd saved their lives before. Melody had never heard that name, and true to her training one of her first actions upon regeneration was poisoning the Doctor. But eventually she heard enough about what she would become in the future to decide to save his life, giving up all her future regenerations in the process. Her obsession with the Doctor now turned in a more romantic direction, she became an archeologist to try track him down. Eventually she was forced to kill him, but instead helped him fake his death (and married him in the process). She was imprisoned for murder, but escaped frequently for adventures (best described by this chart). Thanks to timeline weirdness, as River got to know the Doctor more, he started to know her less, until one day he met her for the first time. On that day she sacrificed herself to save the Doctor's life, and the Doctor managed to upload her consciousness to a computer to live forever.

Personality:
For someone who spent her childhood being brainwashed into a weapon and who at one point declares herself a psychopath, by the end of her life River is a remarkably stable person. She comes across as mature, compassionate and mostly calm in the face of danger. That said, she still retains a tendency to ignore the rules when it suits her, for example breaking out of jail on a regular basis to see the Doctor (but it's okay, she always broke back in again). While she can be serious when the situation calls for it, for the most part she indulges an extreme flair for the dramatic. And when you and your lover can appear at any point in time or space you can get away with a lot. Her favoured way of getting his attention is creating or defacing ancient artifacts and she's been known to let herself be flung into space, secure in the knowledge that he would appear to catch her.

Her complete love of and trust in the Doctor is one of her most defining features. She was raised since birth to obsess over him and that feeling doesn't diminish for all that she turns it to a more benevolent purpose. She believes in his goodness probably more than anyone, and is always completely confident that he'll manage to save the day (with her help, of course). The fact that they're meeting in the wrong order and that almost every time they meet he knows less and less about her weighs on her heavily. However, she's by no means passive or dependent on him. She's his match intellectually and more than his match physically. She's happy to call him out for bad behaviour and show him up when it comes to technical prowess (they're both careful not to spoil each other about each others' lives (in fact responding to things by simply saying "spoilers" is something of a catchphrase for her), but apparently showing off the best way to fly the TARDIS doesn't count). She's also quite happy to go about her business and have her own adventures and only see him every now and then, as long as he does come when called.

And she does have adventures of her own. As an archeologist she's something of an Indiana Jones-like figure, swashbuckling her way through life with a blaster and a ton of attitude. Her training has left her with excellent combat skills and even though she doesn't take quite the same sadistic pleasure in it as she did when she was younger and crazier, she still does love a good shootout.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Professor River Song will do nicely.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Of course. My boots would get awfully uncomfortable without them.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
Whiling away the hours in prison, I suspect. One can only amuse herself with the guards for so long before they're ordered to stop responding, after all. And talking to myself would just be... well, sad.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
It's not paranoia when half of the universe really is out to get you. But my family, I trust more than anything.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
A lion, I think. There's just something about taming a creature that's used to being the most impressive thing in the room.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
No, and I've witnessed it all too often.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
I do hate to be boring, but plates were invented for a reason.

08. Do you trust yourself?
Completely.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Spoilers!

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
I have disappeared, but they won't miss me for a long time. After all, some of those closest to me haven't met me yet. They've still got years left before they have to miss me at all.

SLIGHT HISTORY SECTION FACTUAL CORRECTION: Melody didn't make the crop circles, Amy and Rory did and she followed them.

I am so sorry about all the timey-wimey complications.
