CONTACT/TEAM PREFERENCES

A comment separate from your app with your name, email, and team preferences. Making it a separate comment lets us keep it screened, thus keeping your team preferences private.

For the time zone field, feel free to make a note if working bizarre hours makes you effectively on a different time zone than stated.

"Team preferences" is a catch-all field for any thoughts you might have regarding your character's placement. For example, you might want a team that will put up with your character's sociopathy, or has a certain "feel" to it, or is friendly to your time zone, or maybe you don't think your character looks good in orange, and so on! This is also the spot to let us know if there are teams you DON'T want to be on. While you're not required to put anything here, don't say you have no preference unless you really, honestly have NOTHING to say on the subject! If you've already apped and realized you'd forgotten something? Make another comment!

Character Name: Chae Jae Hyuk / Demon Nexus Nex
Canon: Immortal Regis / Cavalier of the Abyss
Reference Link: Immortal Regis/Cavalier of the Abyss Wiki or a forum thread that frankly does the wiki's job better.

Character History: In the beginning of our story, Chae Jae Hyuk was a penny-pinching highschool student who worked numerous part-time jobs to support himself and his sickly younger brother. Killed in the chaos of the Demon Necromancer Serin's fight with a monster, his intense desire to live charmed her into bringing him back to life as an undead. Unfortunately, beings of Chaos were not permitted to remain in the human world, so he was brought with her to Chaos in order to work to earn his way back to the human world. And importantly, though without his knowledge, his little brother was also brought to Chaos, and secretly treated for his illness.

Jae Hyuk set his eyes on returning to the human world. In the effort to grow stronger, Jae Hyuk was tricked into a forbidden labyrinth, where he freed and became the owner of the magic sword, Depore. In the end Jae Hyoon (his little brother) was possessed by the strongest most malevolent weapon/magic stone in history, Caladbolg, to which was attributed Chaos' very existence. Then a being named Nirvana promptly spirited away Caladbolg-in-Jae-Hyoon's-Body to the human world, then locked down every door from Chaos to the human world.

Two years later, Caladbolg returns to Chaos, and proceeds to threaten to drop the entire country from the sky. He turns it into a game, himself versus "his older brother", and uses his stolen body to his every advantage in the battle against Jae Hyuk and his comrades. In the scramble to save Chaos from, Jae Hyuk took responsibility for his mistakes and took control of the Throne, tearing himself apart from the inside out with the effort of slowing Chaos' descent as the new Regis of Chaos.

Personality: Jae Hyuk is, at his basest, a friendly, social, charismatic person. He bonds with people easily and will quite willingly throw himself under the metaphorical bus if it would protect those people. He's incredibly goal-oriented, fixates himself on a desired result and does everything necessary for as long as possible until he gets it, morals and ideals be damned if they get in his way. He's intelligent, and proves himself incredibly skilled with numbers and economics on multiple occasions. His loyalties are unshakeable, and as long as he believes in the value of what he is expected to do, he will do so, whether it is considered 'good' or not. He has a tendency to allow his feelings to get the better of him and steer him into making willful and rash decisions, but is perfectly willing to own up to his mistakes and suffer the consequences of his actions. Jae Hyuk is incredibly trusting by nature, even forgiving in most cases. He doesn't tend to hold grudges unless he's been really wronged, but when he does he clings to that grudge with a bitter hatred that can and does last for years. He's betrayed often and badly in canon, so he's become more cautious with his trust. I really cannot stress enough exactly how important to his characterization his tendency towards goal-making is. As a character that has two drastically opposing fates -- that of an evil tyrant and that of a pure savior -- a great deal depends on his goals and decisions and what becomes of them. He is not inherently good nor inherently evil, and is molded heavily by his environment.

Writing Sample:
01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Nex, I think. It's the name Serin gave me, so it's important.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Nah. Why? Are you going to run around checking people for socks?

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
I dunno, I never really counted?

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
…Yes.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?

…No. But it's not like I don't care.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
A fork.

08. Do you trust yourself?
Trust myself to what? I don't trust myself not to lose my temper, or to make decisions that might risk those important to me, but past that I think I do.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Then I wouldn't be the only one who knows.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
I like to think so…?

Chizu-nee App

[personal profile] leek_a_boss 2012-04-21 11:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Naba "Chizu-nee" Chizuru
Canon: Mahou Sensei Negima (Manga)
Reference Link: Here

Character History: Chizu-nee is one of the students in a class filled to the brim with magical girls. At the point in canon I'm taking her from, she's not yet one of the magical girls and is instead perfectly normal (as far as canon ever showed). However, one night she and one of her roommates find an injured dog on the side of the road and take it home to nurse it back to health only to find that it's not a dog but actually a young boy!! Chizu-nee is surprised, but decides ignoring the insanity of the situation in order to properly take care of the kid instead. Even when the boy takes her friend hostage in a confused, fever-induced panic, she keeps up her resolve to take care of him and calmly talks him down from doing anything dangerous.

Following that, the boy (who we learn is called Kotarou) moves into her dorm room on Chizu-nee's insistence and they live together as a family. Her kindness is returned when Kotarou saves her from having been kidnapped later on after she accidentally caught the interest of a demon. The two of them became very fond of each other, and Chizu-nee's been continuously supportive of him whether it comes to his romantic life or the battles she's aware he's had in the series.

Near the end of the canon she goes on to use her influence as the daughter of one of the most influential corporations on the planet to encourage (or force, knowing her) different world leaders into working together in order to terraform and eventually colonize Mars. :') I am pulling her from before this point, but it's worth mentioning since it does provide some background and explanation for why she carries herself with the level of confidence that she does. Anyone who carries that kind of influence and ability to act on it effectively would be so self-assured and confident.

Personality: Chizu-nee is a mothering sort of character. She maintains her dorm room the way a mother would maintain her home: taking care of meals, checking on her roommates well being from time to time, generally looking for ways she can offer them support! She loves to help people, evidenced by her volunteering at the campus's daycare after classes and the way she more or less adopted a young boy who turned up in the series. She's known for her incredible levels of patience and level-headedness when dealing with situations that would send others spiraling into a panic, and has been known to simply ignore the absurdity or impossibility of a situation for the sake of dealing with what she can understand. For example, she once took in an injured dog that suddenly turned into a feverish boy, and rather than wasting time wondering how that's even possible chose to just deal with the fact that there was now a sick boy to take care of and made a call to a doctor.

She's also a very perceptive person, a trait that comes in very handy when gauging whether someone is actually a serious threat or if they've just worked themselves up into a frightened panic. She handles the latter with gentle directness to get to the root of the problem and is quite skilled with talking down even a hostage situation without any serious injury taking place. With the former, she's every bit as fearless, but tends to carry herself with a quiet sort of anger. And when I say fearless, I mean fearless. Chizu-nee is adept at ignoring the obvious danger of a situation and instead stepping the hell up and dealing with it, evidenced by the time a stranger broke into their dorm room and beat up a young boy. Chizu-nee's response was confusion at first, and finally just slapping the man in the face while he charged up a hyper beam. And she has no combat skills whatsoever which only adds to the impressiveness of the act. Her strong set of morals keep her from backing down in these kinds of situations, particularly when children are involved.

Chizu-nee is also well known for her temper, especially over slights against herself. Her roommates have become so familiar with it that all it takes is a single looming glare from her to quiet them into submission. :') She's not above striking out at people who offend her either, though violence dealt over that kind of thing is strictly comedic in nature. Finally, she is on occasion prone to black or lewd humor. She suggested a no-undergarments maid cafe for her class's booth at a festival once, and another time told her young teacher and another boy a terrible ghost story about the same festival just to scare them. 8')

Finally, she does frequently heart-mark in canon and is prone to occasional "ara ara"s or "(oh) my"s.

Writing Sample:
01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Please call me Chizu-nee~ ♥

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Yes . . . ? This is a strange question isn't it? Everyone knows you'll get blisters if you wear shoes without socks.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
Oh my . . . You know, I can't remember exactly! I don't talk all the time, but it's nothing I've ever given any real thought to. An hour, perhaps? I don't enjoy being alone, so there's almost always someone around to have conversation with.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
Ara ara? Why would I think that? I have them too well-trained to consider anything like that. ♥

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
Any wild animal? It would have to be something exciting~ A badger, perhaps? They have a cute look to them, and just imagining the looks I'd get for it is funny. ♥

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
Ara ara, these questions are becoming a little worrying . . . No, I'm not. It's painful to see it, but I'm the sort of person who wants to do something to help in that sort of situation. I can't imagine just standing by in shock or tears while someone else is in pain. That's a time when they need human contact and understanding the most. I want to be a person who can give that to them.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
This depends entirely on whether the cake comes with ice cream or not. If there's ice cream, it has to be a spoon! Otherwise a fork is all you need.

08. Do you trust yourself?
I trust myself more than anyone. It isn't that my friends are untrustworthy at all. I know I can count on them to come whenever I call~ But the thing about friends is they always want to do what's best for you, and sometimes the obvious choice isn't the right one to make. They don't always understand what "best" really is, but if it's me then I know I'll be getting exactly what I want. I know all of my most secret desires and all the little details of what's going on in my life, so who better to make decisions for me than me?

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
No one would ever suspect me in the first place, but if I have to choose one option . . . Ara ara, it has to be poisoning. ♥ All of the evidence would be eaten up.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
Oh my, I'm going to get chills at this rate~! My entire class would miss me along with my family, teachers, all the children and workers at the daycare, Kotarou-kun . . . It's really quite a long list. Of course some will miss me more than others, but even the list of people who would cry over it is a long one.

Character Name: Abriel Nei Debrusc Borl Paryun Lafiel (Abriel Lafiel, since Abh all have tl;dr names)
Canon: Crest of the Stars/Banner of the Stars/Seikai trilogy. Specifically the manga version, but there's not too much difference between novels/anime/manga besides 'how much was adapted'.
Reference Link: http://seikai.wikia.com/wiki/Abriel_Lafiel

Character History: Lafiel was born into the ruling family of the Abh, genetically-engineered humans that have conquered half the galaxy. Her father has an interesting sense of humor (read: is a bit of a troll) who traumatized her by telling her that he used the cat's genes to conceive her (this is taboo, but not actually impossible for Abh science). Lafiel proved to be a prodigy pilot, but had trouble making deep friendships because everyone knew she could be empress someday.

When Lafiel was completing her pilot's training, her ship (captained by her mother) was called to escort a nobleman's son to the capital for school. Enter Jinto, whose dad sold out his planet to the Abh when Jinto was a kid. Jinto had no clue how to be a proper Abh noble. Lafiel actually liked that he didn't know much (when she wasn't frustrated by it), because Jinto was the first non-family member who formed an opinion of her without knowing she was a princess.

Anyway, the other big human civilizations decided that shooting down Lafiel's mom's ship in a SNEAK ATTACK! was the best way to start a war and wipe the pretty space elf menace out. Lafiel is ordered to get the civilians (read: Jinto) to safety. This happens… eventually, after lots of people try to capture and/or kill them. Lafiel gets quite attached to Jinto as they work together to not get captured/killed and promises him that when he graduates and she gets a captaincy, he can be her supply officer.

This happens three years later. Lafiel gets command of a small ship and has to actually make commander-type decisions. Jinto, in addition to being supply officer, ends up as her moral support. The rest of Lafiel's crew finds this amusing, as Lafiel is a bit intimidating and Jinto is… well, not.

Lafiel's first command ends with a battle in which her ship is destroyed defending a strategic spot -- Lafiel, Jinto and Jinto's cat barely make it to the escape pods. The next mission we see involves Lafiel having to set up a colonial government on a newly-captured prison planet… and then evacuate the population, deal with a revolt, and temporarily leave Jinto (who was a hostage in the revolt and then went out of contact when he escaped) missing on the surface while an enemy fleet is prowling the area.

After all that excitement, Jinto takes some extended leave to go see about visiting his homeworld, which was recently reconquered. Lafiel offers to accompany him, partly because she likes him, and partly because Jinto's track record for walking into situations where people might want to shoot at him isn't good.

Personality: Lafiel was raised knowing she'd be in a position of power. Her family has a reputation for not crying, for instance, because an Empress who cries for one citizen must cry for everyone. So Lafiel's default-to-strangers face is usually polite, serious or annoyed. She's not a very warm person in general, though she can get attached, even strongly, to friends, crew and family.

Lafiel is also a very proud person. She's generally confident, occasionally to the point of impulsiveness, and will fake confidence when she does get worried. She also can and does hold a grudge and doesn't mind being lethal about it if she feels like the offense calls for that response. Given that the Abh generally assume anything severe enough to be a crime is severe enough that you are wasting oxygen and food by continuing to live, this can discomfort non-Abh. Actually, she can be vengeful and generally scary if you touch her precious people.

Lafiel took quite well to the military; she despises servility, and isn't terribly fond of her duties as princess. She's far more comfortable with the hierarchy of the military (where officers are required to only be insane in ways that do not interfere with their duties) than the nobility. She also finds diplomacy tiresome and generally will start cutting people off or bossing them around when pressed. She's capable of making tough decisions about her subordinates, and even her loved ones, even if the decisions tear her heart out.

If you do get into Lafiel's good graces, expect some teasing and some prickliness, but a lot of genuine warmth and loyalty. While she has enough of duty drummed into her that she's not prone to needless self-sacrifice, she will pull every string and push every limit she has to help someone she cares about.

The Prince - Prince of Persia 2008

[personal profile] comic 2012-04-25 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: "The Prince"
Canon: Prince of Persia (2008)
Reference Link: Wiki Link

Character History: Adventurer and rogue, going after riches, wealth, and ladies in whatever way he can the Prince has a mysterious past, very avoidant of revealing details other than his early childhood. His parents left him with another as they went to fight for 'somebody else's problems' and then never returned. He presumably left to fight 'for himself' as soon as he was able, and had seemingly done well for himself, in a Han Solo 'rich but always poor' kind of way. He's recently been swept into a grand turmoil with his world in danger from the ultimately dark Ahriman, something he believed to be a bogey man, but was all too real. He's also a little responsible for preventing it being sealed properly, too.

Personality: The Prince is a selfish, unrepentant jerk who really only cares about himself and those in front of him, and not always the latter. He's not a bad guy- he's always willing to talk things out and not resort to violence, but he's also not so good that he can't defend himself either. He's a bit of a smartass as well, having a quip or two up his sleeves at any given time, and has a hard time ever shutting up. He's not exactly stoic, but he'd much rather talk about you than him, never really opening himself up to anyone no matter how much he cares for them. Once you've managed to get him on your side however, he'll be incredibly loyal, acting on your behalf even if you don't want him to- especially if you don't want him to.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
I dunno, I always thought a name is something someone else gave you. I've no real attachment to mine, call me whatever you want. Well, within reason.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Socks? Not sure what you're talking about there, but I've never been one for uniforms. They're too samey, but that's the point isn't it? They can help you blend into a crowd though, in the right situations.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
Well, I think I've talked in my sleep before too, so... that's a hard one. The world is just full of good listeners, you know? Especially when you've got a story to tell, and a cup to jingle that sure could use filling. I'm not too fond of it but not every day is one filled with adventure and treasure galore.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
I pretty much work on the assumption that they are. Sometimes I get pleasantly surprised that I'm wrong. Not as much as I'd like.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
I've heard stories of large lizards with giant wingspans, able to breathe fire. One of those would work nicely. I can't think of a single situation in which having one WOULDN'T be a boon. Well maybe one, I bet they're hard to keep fed. I wouldn't envy anyone going after me, if I'm riding one of those things. Escape time could ALSO be feeding time.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
Why should I be? It's not my problem, and if it was, I'd be doing something about it.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
A good dagger is pretty functional for that kind of thing. Never try cutting sweets with a sword unless you've made a good show that's it's clean. That kind of thing gets you kicked out of places when you were just trying to impress.

08. Do you trust yourself?
Only person I can. I can't imagine anyone being my business partner if I couldn't even trust myself. I mean, if they're going to be taken for everything they're worth, I really want to make sure that was what I intended all along, and I'm not some sort of collateral damage.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Isn't that self-incriminating? Why would I ever do something like that? No seriously, is there a good reason?

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
Of course- there's... wait. Oh, maybe...? No. I screwed that one up. Wow, this is kind of enlightening, not a single person? I really need to work on my people skills. Or at least my 'leaving- before-they-cut-all-ties-from-me' skills.

Gilgamesh | Fate/Zero

[personal profile] ticking 2012-04-25 09:13 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Gilgamesh
Canon: Fate/Zero
Reference Link: Character Wiki

Character History: Gilgamesh is an ancient babylonian king. He was loved for his wisdom, power, beauty, and hated for his tyranny, arrogance, and tendency to bang every woman in his city before she was allowed to get married. The gods created for him an equal and balancer, Enkidu, and the two were megabros, going on epic demi-god murdering adventures up until Gil spurned the affections of a goddess and she arranged to have Enkidu killed. From there, Gil had to to do some grieving, some exploring the underworld, and eventually died of his grief.

A few thousands years later, Gilgamesh is summoned as a heroic spirit and Servant to do battle in a magus war for the Holy Grail and the chance to win a wish. Gil is pretty much uninterested in the war and amuses himself instead turning his Master's student against him, flying around thought powered jets, and hitting on the virgin hero Saber. Eventually he succeeds in getting his boring Master offed and takes a sociopathic priest for his new one, kills Alexander the great, proposes marriage to girl!King Arthur, and is yoinked to the Enrichment Center before the corrupted grail can drive him to genocide.

Personality: All Heroic Spirits are essentially some of the biggest personalities the world has ever seen, crystallized at the height of what makes them who they are. For Gilgamesh, this means being the most epically arrogant bag of dicks ever. He believes everything in the world to already be his, and that he is the ultimate king and the only one whose title has any real meaning. He also feels that humanity has devolved since his rule and is generally unimpressed with everyone and everything. Outside of the occasional insult taken too much too heart, he's a relatively difficult person to excite, preferring to lounge around in luxury and be at ease even around his enemies, because really, what could threaten anyone as awesome as him?

But, while Gil's arrogance is definitely his fatal flaw, and the reason he did not easily win the war in under a day, there is a lot of underlying complexity to him. He is really every inch a regal king, unconflicted by self doubt and generally disinclined toward proving himself. Though blind to his own failings, and with a tendency to underestimate... everyone. He is otherwise quite intelligent, and can not only carry on deep philosophical conversation, but can be quite effectively manipulative. He has an interest in watching people who have unique natures, particularly if it causes them conflict. Despite being so full of himself, he also quickly gets bored with people who don't have the strength of will to stand up to him, and will only acknowledge those who have the courage to assert their reality against his own.

With a supremely hedonistic nature, Gil's interests narrow down to sex, fighting, treasure, and mongling. But since he refuses to bother with boring fights, has little interest acquiring things he believes are already his, and thinks most people are boring, he tends to just come off as really fucking lazy. Also, despite his many many flaws, Gilgamesh is far from incapable of dealing with others. Since his ego is secure, people doubting him is an offense but far from a true bother. He will explore potential interest in people before dismissing them, and if they prove curious to him bother them regularly. Also, despite viewing most people as little more than worms, he doesn't consider crushing worms his job and is rarely any kind of threat unless motivated by interest or fury.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?

If you can't discern my name by looking at me you aren't worthy of speaking it. I'd prefer it not be tarnished by any mongrels today.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?

I am no one's soldier to be put in uniform.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?

As long as I desired.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?

There are inherently few that a king can trust, but the occasional outright disloyal fool is hardly worthy of paranoia.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?

Not overly domesticated, or they're no better than any ordinary kept beast. But in the past I was fond of large cats.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?

If such a person exactly exists they should show themselves to me. Testing that thoroughly might entertain me for a bit.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?

That last question wasn't bad, see if you can at least manage ones less foolish than this.

08. Do you trust yourself?

That is even worse. Any wretch that calls himself a king but does not trust himself should quickly fall on his blade for tarnishing my title.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.

The king's word is law. How, then, could I possibly be guilty of any crime?

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?

I disappeared thousands of years ago, and civilization itself still mourns me.

Edward Elric: Application

[personal profile] nometal_alchemist 2012-04-25 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Edward Elric
Canon: Fullmetal Alchemist (Manga/Brotherhood version, including novels, movie/OAVs, and side story chapters that have been translated.)
Reference Link: Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fullmetal_alchemist

Character History: Edward and his younger brother Alphonse grew up in a single-parent home after their alchemist father left when both were very young. While the two showed themselves to be prodigies in the same science, they otherwise lived a rather ordinary life until the death of their mother when Ed was five. Driven by grief, the brothers pursued forbidden alchemy said to be able to bring someone back to life. Their inevitable failure cost Ed his leg and Al his entire body; Ed sacrificed his arm to bind his brother's soul back to the world.

This mistake has haunted Ed ever since, driving him to seek a way to undo what he blames himself for entirely, and restore Al's soul to his physical body. His desire to put things right led him to become the youngest alchemist in the state military, granting him access to its resources and giving him enough freedom to pursue research and leads that might give him the answers he seeks. Unfortunately, his research only uncovered a greater threat to everyone around him, from within the military itself.

While the urgency of restoring Al's body continued to weigh on him, Edward found himself putting aside his own needs for the greater good of protecting everyone. He allied himself with those he knew he could trust, preparing himself as much as he could, and hoping that in the process of fighting the difficult battle he might finally be lead to the answer he's sought for four years.

Personality: Edward is a rather spirited individual with a fiery temper. He can be rather brusque and abrupt, and even a bit violent when he feels offended. This also makes him a very determined and stubborn individual, who often responds to conflict by digging his heels in harder instead of working toward compromise. That stubborn side manifests itself as an intense focus when dealing with matters other than conflict, and a drive to find answers even where none may exist.

He's a child who was forced to grow up early, and who is surrounded most often by other adults, which made him feel a need to prove himself as one of them even while physically still very young. Reaching adulthood hasn't dampened that urge; he will still push himself to prove that he's capable. In spite of that, however, he refuses to give up on his idealistic moral code and, while he'll fight someone, he refuses to kill them, for any reason.

Incredibly loyal and dedicated to those he cares about, Ed strives to protect them in any way he can, so long as those ways don't violate his personal moral code. When faced with a situation where the easy answer would be to break that code, he'll instead search as hard as he can for another answer. Intelligent and brightly optimistic, he forges ahead past setbacks and failures, striving to find new solutions and refusing to submit to failure or defeat as long as moving forward remains an option.

KIYAMA HIROTO, PART ONE.

[personal profile] despedia 2012-04-25 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Kiyama Hiroto
Canon: Inazuma Eleven
Reference Link: http://inazuma-eleven.wikia.com/wiki/Kiyama_Hiroto (ignore the "Go" parts as that's a later canon point, I'm taking Hiroto from Season 3)

Character History: Orphaned at a young age, as a child Hiroto was left in the care of the "Sungarden House", where he ended up developing a strong attachment to the owner, who he came to think of as a father.

Unfortunately for Hiroto, though, while his father did take a liking to him, his intentions were never noble. In fact, the Sungarden house was opened as part of the Aliea project: a program to push humans past their physical limits and turn them into the perfect soldiers. Or that was the intention-- but once the project was proposed to Japan's Prime Minister and he refused, since the PM was a big fan of soccer, he decided to get revenge on him by using the Aliea project to make the perfect soccer players instead.

The kids at Sungarden were forced into the program and eventually sorted in different teams depending on their abilities. Those teams went on to disguise themselves as aliens out to destroy the world and prove their superiority by challenging middle schools' soccer teams and destroying the schools if they lost or refused to play. As one of the most gifted, Hiroto (under the alien name of Gran) became captain of one of the three elite teams, Gaia-- which later on obtained the ULTIMATE TITLE of Genesis, standing at the very height of the Aliea project.

The fake!aliens were not without rivals however, and a team of brave soccer players stood up against them: Raimon. Lead by Endou Mamoru and coached by Hiroto's sister, while they failed at first they kept on becoming stronger and eventually took on Genesis. Like everyone ever, Hiroto ended up becoming attracted to Endou's strong will, and in the field they had an epic heart-to-heart match in which their ideals clashed. Genesis lost the match and Hiroto's father was pissed— but it's okay because in the end he was jesused when Hiroto risked his life to protect him from a soccer ball being kicked his way.

All's well what ends well, and after the alien parenthesis Hiroto became a regular in Japan's national soccer team, Inazuma Japan, and eventually wins the world tournament "football frontier international".

Personality:

Despite being an ex soccer super-villain, Hiroto is actually a kind, gentle person who is caring and mindful of others. He's understanding, supportive, and if he senses someone is facing some hardship he'll do everything he can to offer a hand. This isn't to say he's a pushover, however, as Hiroto has a very strong personality and is more than capable of responding in kind if someone's being a jerk to him. In fact, he actually tends to pass harsh judgment rather quickly on people who might be more than a little rough around the edges— often doubting them and their intentions easily. If proved wrong, however, he'll apologize easily.

Generally calm and with his head on his shoulders, Hiroto rarely loses his temper and tends to keep a collected attitude. This goes doubly if those around him seem particularly anxious— as he's the type to try and work on calming everyone else down, or try to lift their spirits up. Even when he himself is agitated, generally he will try to not show it and opt to act reassuring instead if he's in the presence of someone else. Something of a natural born leader, his charismatic persona makes it easy for people to follow him.

He's determined, strong willed, and he's not the type to go down without a fight. In fact, especially after joining Inazuma Japan under Endou's leadership, like his other teammates, he comes to embrace the "NEVER GIVE UP NO MATTER WHAT! IT'S NOT OVER UNTIL THE END WHISTLE!" life philosophy. Hiroto is the sort of person who gives his all in everything he does, and especially for the people he loves, he's ready to go to just about any lengths. For his father who he loves greatly, he was ready to go through the Aliea project and destroy schools (although he drew the line at destroying people, which was indeed a order he received) despite knowing full well it was wrong. This suggests that even though Hiroto is unwilling to directly hurt people himself, he can and will set aside even his own ideals and morals to stand by the side of the people he cares for. At one time, he even rebukes his sister for abandoning his father's side despite being his real daughter.

Possibly because he grew up in an orphanage with people of all ages, Hiroto has a tendency to act as a big brother figure to those younger than him. He'll offer guidance, scold when necessary (but he's always pretty nice about it), and offer his support when it's needed.

Polite and respectful, overall Hiroto is a nice, friendly person that has a fairly easy time getting along with everyone.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?

Hiroto is fine. I don't mind people calling me by my first name.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?

Socks? I don't think a uniform should be without. It doesn't make for a nice image, but... humans sweat a lot during physical activity. Doing any without socks would make feet a little too smelly afterwards.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?

Thinking about it, I can't really say. I'm not someone who talks all the time, but even when I didn't have many friends, I had father's orders to rely. Being a captain means you have to give instructions.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?

I believe in all of my friends. No one in Inazuma Japan would ever do something to hurt me, and Father and Sister wouldn't either.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?

Wild animals...? To be honest, I've never given it much of a thought. I'm more interested in stars rather than animals. Maybe a comet?

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?

I don't like seeing other people in pain.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?

... uh. A spoon, maybe? Are we eating cake?

08. Do you trust yourself?

I believe in myself. If you won't believe in yourself first, people won't be able to do the same. That's why trusting your own abilities is important.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.

There isn't a crime I've committed that only I would know. During my time in Aliea Gakuen, I've had to do a lot of things I'm not proud of, as Genesis' captain. We've destroyed school, but it was on TV. Since I was going by "Gran" back then, though, I guess it counts.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?

If I disappeared tomorrow I'd make sure to come back as soon as possible. I wouldn't want to worry my teammates, family and friends.

Character Name: Estellise Sidos Heurassein
Canon: Tales of Vesperia
Reference Link: Here you go.

Character History: Until the events of the game, Estelle led a rather quiet life. Living in the Imperial Castle as a princess and candidate to the throne, she had a very restrictive upbringing, never straying outside the castle walls. While her mother passed away early in her life and nothing is mentioned of her father, Estelle was far from lonely as she made friends with all those in the castle, including a rookie knight, Flynn. In this way, she grows up into a sweet, though naive, young woman.

After receiving worrisome news about Flynn, Estelle becomes determined to leave the castle to warn him of the danger. In the chaos of her escape, she meets Yuri which sets in motion a larger chain of events. At first, she goes along with Yuri to find Flynn, but her helpful nature causes her to become side-tracked easily as she realizes the suffering of the people. Estelle decides to see the various injustices she comes across to their end, refusing to return to the castle until the people of the empire are safe.

Along the way, Estelle comes to realize the truth about her unusual powers and is forced to wrestle with the fact that her existence is a threat to the very world. Selfless to a fault, she wishes for her own death in order to save the world, but she quickly realizes the mistake in her decision as the friends she has made along her journey are quick to protest such a hasty choice. With many false starts and setbacks, the group is eventually able to save the world to Estelle’s great joy.

Personality: At heart, Estelle is a charming and sweet girl that is full of good intentions. However, while she lacks experience when it comes to her convictions at the beginning of the game, she proves that following the path of your own desires and beliefs is not naive nor misguided as long as you are aware of the price you will pay to follow it. Always ready to lend a hand, Estelle never turns from those that need help and doing what she feels is right; her desire to help others is as natural as breathing to her. With this determination, when Estelle realizes that her life could cause others harm, she is quick to wish for her own death in order to protect them. To a group of people that have been ready to support and help Estelle to realize her own wishes, her request is far too much. In this way, Estelle learns the consequences of her noble intents and understands what is most important to her -- Not only the people she wishes to help, but also the people that have helped her. Her determination doesn’t suffer with this realization, but it gives her more power to push forward with a greater understanding of the world around her.

In fact, Estelle lead a very sheltered life as she was raised in seclusion within the Imperial Palace. So, while she is not nearly as experienced with the world as others, Estelle is also more curious than most about it. She is easily fascinated by places and people, having spent her childhood with her nose in the books to learn through reading. Likewise, she can be childlike, acting younger than would expect a woman her age to, especially with a few strange ideas and a penchant to pout. Still, she is able to maturely face any situation as it is expected of her when the time comes. With people, she is always eager to make a friend, determined to socialize when given the chance, and she is able to endear many to her cause, without realizing her own charms. Where people would accept or not look closely at a person, Estelle can be very insightful, seeing another side of the situation due to her inquisitive and observant nature. While Estelle may not have much experience with people, she is able to see to the heart of them and their situation in many cases. Estelle may be easy to underestimate or overlook, she has a power of her own that is captivating albeit underwhelming at first look.

Character Name: Yuri Lowell
Canon: Tales of Vesperia
Reference Link: http://aselia.wikia.com/wiki/Yuri_Lowell

Character History: Yuri Lowell, an orphan born and raised in the Imperial capital of Zaphias, starts off the game as more or less a trouble-making no-account. In the past, he attempted to join the Imperial knights with his childhood friend Flynn to help combat the unfairness from within, but after only a few months he became too embittered with it and quit. Since then, he’s been enforcing justice in his own way, committing petty acts of rebellion against any official harassing the Lower Quarter. During a quest trying to find the missing magical item needed to power the Lower Quarter’s water supply, Yuri gets tossed in an Imperial jail cell. While escaping he runs into a ~mysterious girl~ who claims she has an urgent warning to convey to Flynn, and since Yuri needs to split town both to beat the fuzz and look for the missing magical item, he agrees to travel with her so long as their paths remain the same.

While journeying with Estelle Yuri continues to witness terrible people doing terrible things and he turns himself into a vigilante, murdering them when they escape punishment from the law. He also starts a guild with his party member Karol. And as the guild derps around trying to find its purpose the party accidentally gets embroiled in a plot to stop a power-mad Commandant and save the world from an eldritch horror. The former doesn’t go so well but the latter goes pretty splendidly and Yuri and co. save the world by destroying its main source of technology go team!
Personality: Yuri is a very brash guy, flippant to the point of disrespect and arrogantly casual even in the face of impending death. But Yuri’s really only a troublemaker in the sense that he feels strongly and can’t stand looking at hypocrisy and injustice. He’s incapable of not helping someone in front of him that’s in need, but equally incapable of keeping his mouth shut when someone is clearly doing wrong. He’s not an idealist who thinks the whole world can be good, but he still has the determination to fix everything immediately in front of him.

Yuri is someone who is very, very independent, so if he encounters a problem he thinks he has to solve it himself—even if it’s technically someone else’s problem, too. But despite not being very open with people, Yuri is very good at handling people. He has an intuitive grasp of what people need to hear to get going and he also knows when people need space to make up their own mind. While Yuri has strong convictions, he doesn’t try to sell anyone on them, and believes strongly that everyone must make their own decisions about what they think is right.

Yuri comes off as the cool older brother type and a consummate party leader, always in control always in the know and ready with a careless sarcastic retort. Generally, Yuri has a good understanding of his own flaws—he’s undiplomatic, impatient, and his moral code is off the norm. Possibly, he is too aware of his flaws: in the past he has displayed bitterness and envy toward his best friend, Flynn, and his ‘perfect knight’ position. Even though Yuri is resolved to his actions, he still tends to slip into the mindset that there are certain things—the fame and repute that comes from having saved the world, for instance—he just doesn’t deserve because some of his actions have been wrong, and he refuses to justify himself. Yuri is usually very good at bottling these feelings, and most other feelings of worry, doubt, or hurt under a mask of nonchalance but when his loved ones/party members in danger Yuri can become highly emotional, even ruthless.

Re: Yui | Angel Beats!

[personal profile] harmonium 2012-04-26 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Yui
Canon: Angel Beats!
Reference Link: Here. Also, for the character reference, here is a good image of her!

Character History:
Unfortunately, Yui's life wasn't a very long one. As a child, she was in an accident and paralyzed from the neck down. Because of her situation, she had to depend very heavily on her mother. She passed her time by watching television, and... at some point, she died. Canon never actually states the cause of her death-- we just know that it happens, since the series takes place in the afterlife.

However, instead of dying dying, Yui got sent to a world in the afterlife that was geared towards teenagers resolving their issues and having them be actual teenagers. She quickly became a fangirl of Girls Dead Monster (a rockband used by the Afterlife Battlefront to create distractions), and after Iwasawa's disappearance, she took over as the lead singer.

Otonashi, intially believing that Yui had little to fulfill, found out that she had a bunch of things she wanted to do. He tried to fulfill her wishes to get her to disappear, but ultimately, he failed because her final wish was marriage. It was Hinata that managed it, by saying that he would marry her.

So yeah! She passed on after that, because she no longer needed to stay at the school.

Personality:
Yui is a bit like the energizer bunny, to be honest. She just keeps going and going and going, and it's rare for her to run out of steam. She's also quite bright, cheerful, upbeat, and passionate. She puts her all into everything she does, and she enjoys anything where she can be active. When it comes to talking, she can go on forever, especially when it's about something she likes. Part of this is a side-effect from her life— she went from being paralyzed to suddenly having a body that could do things. Of course she took advantage of that!

She's quite cute, too. She introduces herself as Yui-nyan and does all kinds of cute gestures and generally tries to come off as cute. ... Of course, that's only some of the time. The rest of the time, Yui is big on trash talk. She insults people without a second thought. She's especially fond of calling the entire SSS, herself, or other various people idiots. Her speech can go from cute to rude in a second flat depending on what is going on.

Her temper is ... honestly pretty short! It doesn't take much to make her angry, and when she does, she comes out kicking and punching and pulling wrestling moves on whoever was irritating her. She can be pretty violent when she's angry, and when no one is listening to her, that just makes her even more angry. It's kind of a vicious cycle.

Yui is also an incredibly determined person, and when she starts something, she doesn't want to stop until she manages to do what she wants to do. Like, if she wants to play rhythm guitar and sing at the same time, she will do it even if it takes a lot of practice to keep from going off beat.

... Also, as a note, death is not a big deal to her. Those that die in Angel Beats! will always come back to life. It's mostly just a thing that happens!

Writing Sample:
01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
I'm Yui! If that doesn't work, I'll accept Yui-nyan, too. ♥

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
... Is this really a question?? If it's fashionable, why not! I don't have a reason to not wear them, do I? Unless there is some kind of reason to not wear them that no one's told me about!

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
I was supposed to be paying attention to how long I can stay quiet? But that's boring! Is this even that important for you to know? Only idiots keep track of how long they can stay quiet...!

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
No way...! I can trust the SSS, and they let me be the lead singer of GirlsDeMo! Besides, if I were thinking those thoughts, I probably would've peed my pants by now from how scary those would be.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
I'd domesticate a tiger! Wouldn't it be cool to ride around on one? I'd even be able to find a way to get the tiger to perform with GirlsDeMo at one of our performances.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
Not really... that would be pretty bad, wouldn't it? If someone is miserable, I'll make them feel better somehow, even if it means punching it out of them.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
A plate! What else am I supposed to eat cake on??

08. Do you trust yourself?
Of course I trust myself! I'm a budding flower, so not trusting myself would only make things worse in the end...!

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
What the hell are you assuming?? I'm innocent of everything, even if you don't seem to believe that! That's something you're not supposed to assume about girls!

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
... Disappearing? Is that going to be a thing here, too? Whenever someone disappears, you'll miss them! I'm sure someone will miss me if I disappear!

Character Name: Pascal
Canon: Tales of Graces
Reference Link: http://aselia.wikia.com/wiki/Pascal

Character History: Pascal was born an Amarcian, and while that may sound like the typical JRPG race of ancients, nnno, they’re actually just a caste of engineers that never bothered reintegrating into society and instead decided to hang out in ruins and SCIENCE!! Pascal excels both at hanging out in ruins and SCIENCE! (specifically, engineering), but after some of her experiments proved to be unworkable, she decided she was going to wander the world to look at ruins and science, instead of doing it in backwoods tales Russia, bringing her into contact with the main party. While originally she joins out of her desire to touch the party loli, the party decides to allow her to stick with them because she is inarguably useful for dealing with those ruins JRPG parties inevitably trip over, and at decoding the ancient Amarcian writing that’s complete gibberish to everyone else.

Eventually, they end up back on the freezing continent of Fendel, where Pascal finds her sister has taken and is attempting to finish her research from before her travels, but isn’t aware of the disastrous flaws contained within (her real speciality being biology). Pascal confronts her sister and is made aware for the first time of her sister’s, who she has always admired, bitterness at Pascal, who has always imitated & then effortlessly surpassed her. But they do stop the experiments, & Pascal is properly cemented into the party, promising to finish her research properly to help save Fendel now being more cognizant of her nation’s suffering. She sticks around for the rest of the game’s plot arc, fighting monsters, fixing heat ray canons and occasionally harassing the loli. By the end of the game she and her sister are mending their relationship and Pascal is working seriously on making life less miserable in tales Russia.

Personality: Pascal may be genius level when it comes to machines, but she’s pretty clueless emotionally. She genuinely means well, but she never even noticed the bitterness building at in her sister, at always being overshadowed by someone who would just pick up what she was doing, effortlessly surpass her, and then whirlwinding on to something else. Pascal honestly admired her sister, and it was her looking up to her that inspired her to try all the same things she did, never once thinking how her actions negatively impacted her. Sssso yeah, Pascal is not good at understanding others’ feelings, or even recognizing them. She needs to be explicitly told she is fucking up, and it might take a bit to get through to her even then.

On a less serious note but also regarding the feelings thing, she tends to get inappropriately excited about things she find interesting but are objectively probably awful. For instance, swallowed by monster: WOW I BET THIS IS SOME KIND OF HORRIBLY TOXIC ACID!! :D, wondering if the corpse of the guy who wrote the notes is still around, HM I WONDER IF IT WOULD BE EASIER TO LEAVE THROUGH THE BUTT!! :D. On the other hand, her lack of awareness is sometimes a bit charming too, when the rest of the party is down she’s unlikely to let it get to her much, and when someone in the party has distrusted her and is openly suspicious, she’s going to save him anyway, ‘cause we’re friends, right?

She also is bad at social mores, and most basics like uh. Things like remembering to bathe. Things like remembering to tell the party OH YEAH, I’M AN AMARCIAN. :D? It’s a good thing she’s quite friendly and upbeat to make up for the rest of her social lackings. Basically, when it comes to anything outside of machines, she’s really an airhead.

Writing Sample:
01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Pascal! You can call me other things, buuuut I won’t know you’re talking to me, so you’d better just stick with that.
02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Nope!
03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
Oh gosh, ask all the hard questions first why don’tcha? Lemme think, the longest waaaaas probably that time I was working with Fourier and she said she needed quiet to concentrate! Since we were nearly done by the time I forgot and it went all BANG-KWAPOW on us, that had to have been quite a while!
04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
No, again!
05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
Domestication’s more of my sister’s thing, but now that you mention it, why not the egret? Saying it like that just makes me wonder! Oh, wow, egret totally sounds just like regret. I wonder if is this some harbinger of misery thing? But leaving all those wild harbingers in the wild, that sounds like a super bad idea too. No wonder it’s an egret, no matter what I pick I’ll regret it!
06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
I don’t think so? I don’t think I’ve noticed enough misery to really say, but that’s probably when I’ve got to get my act together and work the hardest!
07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
I’m not picky. As long as it’s not hands, imagine smudging up a blue-print with frosting and then ants swarming on it and eating the paper! That’d be a tragedy!
08. Do you trust yourself?
Yep! I mean, it’d be really hard to go around behind my own back, you know? I don’t even think that’s possible!
09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Hey, the minute I say it, you’ll know too! Ooh, this one’s a trick question!
10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
Hmm. . . I think Fourier knows I’m working really hard on this, and it’s not like the Amarcian enclave is exactly close to anything, and I know Captain Malik’s really hard at work in the capital too, work has really got him swamped. . . I bet it’d take at least a week!

Character Name: Eury Evans
Canon: Immortal Rain
Reference Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immortal_Rain

Character History: Eury Evans grew up second oldest child of a group of five, all born from the same father but different mothers. The five were on their own through childhood, stealing and scrounging for money. One day while raiding a house with his older sister, the resident returned home. His sister hid him but was not able to hide herself. The man attacked the girl and before it could go further Eury shot the man. It's implied that after his sister's injury from the incident he took over as 'head' of the family. He makes a living as a desert pirate, stealing to provide for his family.

Eventually he comes to work for Sharem, a sophisticated woman who he is totally attracted to. She however has a thing for taking in orphans and he's not particularly unlike them to her in any way. While its funsies working for a hottie like Sharem, Eury later decides to switch gears and help out Rain. For funsies. Then his life becomes balls.
Personality: Eury thinks he is the bombshiggity. He will proudly crow about his own brilliance. When he is in his own element he is very confident in himself and his abilities. That said, Eury does have the wonderful ability to realize when he's the normal in a battle of superhumans and has no qualms or blows to his esteem when he reasonably decides to see himself the hell out if he's not necessary to the situation.

He fancies himself a ladies' man and has had some good success in that department. Eury likes to be charming and flirty, giving gifts and complementing the girls he likes. Being the center of attention is something he enjoys and doing well with the ladies gets him that.

Also, Eury is much like a honeybadger. He takes what he wants and doesn't give a shit. Eury is a guy who generally runs on instinct and impulse, tending towards doing whatever seems to be the most enjoyable. Having a good time is important to him. While he does work to help provide for his family, Eury does not allow himself to be tied down by responsibility.

Character Name: Kubota Makoto
Canon: Wild Adapter
Reference Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Adapter

Character History:

Kubota Makoto was born the illegitimate son of a politician, and he grew up in a house where everyone treated him as if he didn’t exist. When his mother died, his uncle took him in; even though his guardian was now a detective, or maybe because of it, Kubota quickly became involved with the “dark” side of Tokyo. He did all sorts of dangerous odd jobs and made a name for himself in mahjong parlors until he was eventually scouted by a Yakuza group. As the leader of their youth division, he learned the ropes with ease and juggled drug dealing, collecting money and murder with... playing video-games at the office.

He resigned from his position with the Yakuza once his second-in-command died for sticking his nose in dangerous business-- W.A., a mysterious drug with side-effects such as going berserk, death and growing fur and claws. Soon after that, Kubota picked up a dying person from the streets. He was about Kubota's own age, but he had lost his memory and he didn’t know much about the world. His right hand, however, had fur and claws.

Kubota, who had always liked animals but not people, grew attached to this “large stray cat” who couldn’t “say anything but the truth.” He named him Tokitoh, and they started living (and even doing certain shady jobs) together. Very soon, Tokitoh became Kubota's raison d'être, the only one able to handle him and fill the emptiness he felt inside. Together, they settled into a comfortable (but fragile) domestic routine, as they searched for more information about W.A. in Tokyo’s underworld in order to find out more about Tokitoh's condition and past. Kubota's canon is filled with intrigue, danger and... shounen ai undertones. Cough.

Personality:

Because he got used to being ignored for the most part of his childhood, Kubota doubted his own existence, and he continuously looked to experience new things in order to feel “alive” and assert his sense of “being”-- things ranging from the latest snack on sale at Seven-Eleven to cheating at Yakuza-owned mahjong parlors. Then Tokitoh became his existential anchor, so to speak, and Kubota became less uneasy and more reassured.

Kubota is observant, analytical and curious, maybe as a result of not being acknowledged directly for so many years. He is also very private and cautious, so he relies on vague answers and never gives out too much information about himself, preferring to take a bluffing attitude. This sets an emotional barrier between himself and all other people. It’s different with Tokitoh, with whom he learned what it’s like to want, need and fear... Kubota values Tokitoh's existence well over his own, and over anyone else's, and he will do anything for him if needed (or, well, as long as Tokitoh lets him).

Kubota is said to be cruel, indifferent and selfish, as he has killed an alarming number of people without batting an eyelash and doesn’t seem to think anything of it. He doesn’t care about people, so he doesn’t feel guilty about murdering them, but it does affect him, deep down, whether he realizes it or not.. His relationship with Tokitoh has humanized him somewhat, but he’s still quite ruthless when he considers it necessary.

Seemingly contradictory, Kubota acts aloof and disinterested, but he’s extremely loyal. He can be arrogant, while being emotionally insecure all along. He gives vague answers, but he’s blunt when asking questions. If he does something that may seem nice for a stranger, he draws a clear line. He makes anti-climatic comments, but he gets in business mode very easily. He’s very careful and thinks things through, but he’s also impulsive and trusts his instincts. And although Kubota is very messed up, he’s not that difficult to approach... Superficially, of course :’D.

Writing Sample: THE SURVEY

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Hmm. “Lovely Kubota,” maybe?

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Ah, yes. They’ll be useful when it’s cold.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
. . . Haah. I wonder.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
Let’s see... I’m careful around people, so it might seem that way. But there’s no deep meaning behind it.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
None particularly. Either way, my hands are full at the moment.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
Not really.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
A fork or a spoon, depending on the cake... I don't .

08. Do you trust yourself?
Mm. To a certain extent, probably.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Uwah, this is starting to seem more and more like an interrogation.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
Well, my disappearance would be noticed, at any rate. Anyway, closing this survey like this... Some people might become wary, you know?

Character Name: Harry Flynn
Canon: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Reference Link: Wiki, Visual reference

Character History: Flynn is a professional thief. He's introduced as a longtime friend of Uncharted's protagonist, Nathan Drake. He offers Drake a job to steal an oil lamp which purportedly holds a clue about the fate of Marco Polo's lost fleet. With his partner, Chloe (who is Drake's ex-girlfriend), they promise that they're going to screw over his client. When it comes time to escape the museum, Flynn turns on Drake, using him as a distraction to make a clean getaway. He'd been on his client's side all along: he works for a Serbian warlord named Lazarevic, who's searching for a mythological jewel called the Cintamani stone. Flynn then spends three months getting Lazarevic nowhere in the jungles of Borneo, and is unable to get a clue until Drake sabotages the dig site with help from Chloe. Flynn is not seen again until he runs across Drake and Chloe in the Nepal, where he figures out that Chloe has been working with Drake all along. He covers for her, and takes her to the train that Lazarevic intends to take into Tibet. He angrily confronts Drake on the train, shooting him. Once in Tibet, Lazarevic's patience with Flynn begins to fray. He's forced to work with Drake once again to find the entrance into the city of Shambhala. Once there he deals with Lazarevic for Chloe's life, but she rejects him and takes off with Drake. Flynn helps Lazarevic find what he was looking for, but his payment turns out to be a bullet in the chest and a live grenade, minus the pin. Drake and his friends find him and offer him pity, but Flynn chooses to let the grenade drop instead of finding redemption.

Personality: In a word, Harry Flynn is affable. He's charming, funny, sociable, flirty, and friendly. He's the sort of person who will crack jokes and reminisce about fun old times even when he has a gun to your back. And that's because when it all comes down to it, Flynn can only really rely on his charm to get by. He's cunning, yes, but doesn't have a mind for puzzles, nor is he all that historically literate (which is a problem when you're trying to steal historical artifacts). He is easily bored and somewhat lazy. Given the chance he'll usually let somebody else do the heavy lifting. He is, however, intensely practical and has a fair bit of common sense when it comes to getting a job done--you can count on Flynn to be well-prepared for the task at hand. Flynn always has something to say and is prone to making idle or inane observations to fill up dead air, usually in the form of dumb questions. Despite the fact that he turned on Drake, his loyalties are not actually fickle. He will pick a side and stick with it until its horrible conclusion. When Harry Flynn turns on you, it's because it's part of his game plan. As far as his temper goes, Flynn is prone to violence once provoked, but you really have to get him to escalate into that mindset. It's not his first resort, and seems to be partially influenced by being around Lazarevic. This is not to say that Flynn is a good man, but rather that when he's around bad people, he'll allow his dark side to the surface in order to keep up. And at the end of the day, Flynn is not sorry for anything he's done.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Just call me Flynn. Most people don't call me 'Harry' until they've bought me a few drinks first.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
That depends now, doesn't it? The real question is what kind of shoes are we going to be wearing, and will it get wet? I hate it when my socks get soggy inside my boots and I can't get them dry. My feet get all itchy.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
I think there was a time when I was casing a museum when I was quiet for something like three hours. Almost drove me mad.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
I wouldn't say plagued. In my line of work that's more or less a guarantee. That's how the game is played, after all.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
I dunno, they all sound like a lot of work. What doesn't shed and cleans up after itself? Can you train an iguana to use a litterbox?

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
I'm not really one of those bleeding-heart types, so no.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
Obviously a fork, right? Unless it's an ice cream cake. In that case I have to go with a spoon.

08. Do you trust yourself?
What kind of question is that? Of course I do. When you get right down to it, that's the only person you can trust.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Is this where I tell you about the time I lifted ice cream from the shops when I was a boy? I've got no skeletons in the closet. They're right out in the open, if you know who to ask. Look, when I'm doing crime, it's because I'm getting paid a lot of money to do it. At the very least, I've got a client who knows very well what I've done. Unless it's an extremely easy job, I've probably got a partner, too. Y'know, someone to watch your back, look out for patrols, do the heavy lifting, drive the getaway car, that sort of thing.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
Probably not. But if the stakes are that high, you'd better be offering substantial compensation.

Character Name: Tokitoh (Ushio Minoru)
Canon: Wild Adapter
Reference Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wild_Adapter

Character History: At age five, Ushio Minoru, son of an important Japanese diplomat was in a car accident. His mother and older brother's bodies were found, but his was missing. Minoru was kidnapped by a shady organization full of shady people who did very shady things to him-- such as keeping him locked up, abusing him psychologically (and possibly sexually) and the most immediately noticeable one of all: they used him to test strange drugs.

When Minoru was around 18, he somehow managed to escape and spent a couple of months wandering the streets of Tokyo--until he ended up passed out in an alley in Yokohama. There, he was found at the brink of death by Kubota Makoto, ex yakuza leader and all-around quirky and scary person. Kubota took Minoru home and discovered that he was suffering not only from all sorts of PSTD, but also amnesia. He named Minoru "Tokitoh" and worked hard at socializing him so he could be a semi-functional member of society.

The other big thing to note here is that due to the ~mysterious~ experiments that were performed on Tokitoh when he was younger, his right hand is covered in fur and has long claws, like those of an animal. Kubota was previously involved with people who, due to a dangerous drug called "W.A." ended up turning into furry, savage beasts, so both of them (in a way) have an interest in finding out more about this W.A. and what it means both for Tokitoh's past and his future. Even if this means risking their lives every other day as they end up dealing with wacky sects, the mafia, and all sorts of criminals.

Personality: The best way to describe Tokitoh is blunt. He is someone who always speaks with the truth, no matter how harsh it may be, and this often causes him to end with his foot in his mouth (but no takebacks!). Tokitoh is also kind of vulgar and brash; he curses, yells at strangers, and has a somewhat explosive temperament. If he gets frustrated while gaming, he will throw the controller at the nearest wall without thinking. Which is very unfortunate because his beast hand has super strength and many controllers (and other home utensils) have been ruined in the past like this (though I assume this would not apply with the powercap).

Even with all this, Tokitoh can also be very naïve. Since he still doesn't remember most of his past, the majority of the things he knows about the world come either from manga/TV/video games, or things Kubota or other people explain to him. He will be able to recognize a device used to eavesdrop on people, but be completely at a loss when informed that it takes 9 months for a baby to be born.

Despite his seemingly grumpy disposition, Tokitoh tends to always mean well. He will yell at people and kick them and then fret over them when they get hurt and look after them. Helping people makes him happy and proud, and if you gain his trust, you'll have his loyalty forever. And on the topic of pride, Tokitoh can have a bit of an ego at times. Learning things and then being able to show off this knowledge, or winning at a fighting game... these are some of the things that will get Tokitoh acting all cocky and confident.

As a note, because of his past, Tokitoh suffers from sever PTSD that gets triggered by certain things. In canon, calling him "Minoru" and getting a syringe close to him are things that make him BSOD bad; he also frequently suffers from nightmares, but none of these events are things he can remember clearly once the episode is over.

Writing Sample

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
You may call me the Beauty Tokitoh~

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
Not really, unless it gets cold.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
Huh... don't think I remember. Maybe that one time when I accidentally broke Kubo-chan's arm...

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
. . . The hell?? 'Course not!

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
A what? I think havin' a dragon would be awesome! Oh, but that doesn't count as a real animal, huh? Maybe an elephant, but I dunno where we'd keep it.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
Not... really? I mean, who likes seein' other people sad? But when times're tough, you just gotta take action! Sittin' there mopin' won't solve anything.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
My hands.

08. Do you trust yourself?
Yeah! ... generally...

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
What a stupid question. Who's gonna actually confess to something like this if they're the only ones who know? But that don't mean I'm guilty of anything, so don't go gettin' weird ideas!

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
Yeah. Kubo-chan'd find me, no matter what.

Solf J. Kimblee

[personal profile] mikadont 2012-04-28 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Solf J. Kimblee
Canon: Fullmetal Alchemist (manga)
Reference Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fullmetal_Alchemist

Character History: Solf J Kimblee was a State Alchemist – a man employed by the government of Amestris to do their dirty work, basically, using alchemy. But he never really disagreed with it. His own form of alchemy was explosions; he specialized in setting them off, and being a party of the military only gave him a channel to do more of that in. In an acceptable manner, of course.

The Amestrian government soon sent him, along with other State Alchemists, to suppress a rebellion in Ishbal. Kimblee loved it – he was extremely enthusiastic in the task given to them, an “Ishbalan extermination” in which all of the nation were to be killed. The government allowed him to use an imperfect Philosopher's Stone, which greatly amplified his abilities and gave him even more joy. At the war's end, though, instead of returning it, he swallowed it and blew up the witnesses.

Which wound him up in prison. He was only released years later to aid a corrupt government intent sacrificing the lives of everyone in the entire country to create a new world. He gladly went along with that, which kind of dicked him over when the heroes won a battle against him and he was devoured in a neardeath state by one of the monsters he was working with.

Personality: Solf J. Kimblee is a man who enjoys the finer things in life! Nice white suits, philosophy, debates, and the spine-tingling sensation of being close to, feeling and seeing an explosion go off. You know, the usual vices.

He is kind of nuts. He views explosions as an art form, particularly the sound of them – and occasionally the death paired with them. He has an extremely obvious enthusiasm for them, even in the midst of battle or wiping out dozens and dozens of innocent citizens; he appreciates their destruction, the scope – all of what makes normal people consider explosions terrifying. It's his favourite hobby! He loves death and he feels that death loves him back, considering all the times he's been placed in danger – he's not exactly suicidal, but he hates to back down from a good fight.

He's not always so obvious, though. In fact, Kimblee is rather skilled at making himself come across as a normal person. He's charming, well-dressed and always well-spoken – and thus able to become a State Alchemist despite his lunacy. To others, he can come across as downright gentlemanly whenever the situation calls for it. But that ties into his craziness; Kimblee is a very goal-oriented person, and is not above manipulating, killing and using people to achieve his goals. In fact, he revels in it.

He's tends to be an observer, though, in line with his own goals. Part of what makes him take part in a scheme that would slaughter an entire country was a desire to see “evolution” with his own eyes – survival of the fittest. He believes in that whole heartedly – and any slaughter or death that is required for him to see that conflict of weak vs. strong is just a necessary byproduct, in his eyes.

Along with that, he does genuinely admire strong people and people who stick to their intentions, no matter the circumstances. He admires doctors who heal even the enemy's soldiers, because they stick to their role of “healing others” -- similarly, soldiers' roles are “killing others”. They accepted that role, and he looks down on any people who pity themselves for having to kill or back down it.

Writing Sample: Ishbal was a paradise.

And not in the terms that those religious fanatics thought it was. It wasn't a holy place or anything of the sort, by their standards. Kimblee could take one look at the miles and miles of destruction and death that was Ishbal now and determine that there was nothing holy about this place – not anymore, at least.

Kimblee did admire those who stuck to their faith, though it wouldn't save them in the end. Determination and sticking to their roles – a priest is a priest, who “saves others”.

One was performing some sort of rite for a group of huddled-up Ishbalan soldiers in the shelter of a half-ruined building when Kimblee found them. He stopped to listen, unseen and amused. He couldn't understand the language the priest was speaking in, and he didn't particularly need or want to. What he did understand was that the priest's voice was set and unwavering, completely devoted to its purpose – even though his home was falling apart around him. It may have been brainwashing -- “opium of the masses”, some called it – but it was effective. The rebels were listening with rapt attention, eyes closed. Kimblee was almost sorry to break it up.

Almost.

One of the soldiers finally opened his eyes when he heard a noise somewhere in the distance – and saw Kimblee regurgitating his red Philosopher's Stone to clench it between his front teeth in a wide grin.

Kimblee understood the language the Ishbalan spoke when he choked out “The Crimson Alchemist -- !” The cries of his comrades soon followed, heading for their guns, while Kimblee calmly lowered his hands to the ground, the symbols on his palms sparking as he set off a remote detonation with the power of the Stone to aid him. The explosion targeted the base of the building, the structures holding it together, sending the rest of it crumbling down onto the congregation.

It was heaven. Or, at least, a glimpse of it. Kimblee could feel the vibrations in his spine, his eardrums, his entire body; he could see the destruction and hear the blast wave, the cries of agony and shock from the pile of rubble. It was a toe-curling, ecstatic feeling that resonated through his entire being. Kimblee couldn't help but laugh – a wild, unrestrained one. Amestrian soldiers soon caught up to him in the midst of admiring his own handiwork.

“Sir -- ?” One questioned, clutching his gun nervously. Kimblee only smiled.

“Don't just wait around here. We still need to see more of this paradise.”

Claire Saunders [1/1]

[personal profile] galatea 2012-04-28 06:30 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Dr. Claire Saunders
Canon: Dollhouse
Reference Link: http://dollhouse.wikia.com/wiki/Claire_Saunders

Character History: In the not-so-distant future, the Rossum Corporation developed technology that allowed them to wipe the personalities of people, leaving the resulting empty “doll” to be imprinted with any persona that the programmer might choose. The first thing Rossum decides to do with all of this tech is to create the Dollhouses: underground bunkers housing tens of Actives/Dolls, each one ready to be programmed and sent out on engagements. Sometimes this means being a super spy or even an ultra-awesome orphanage volunteer; unfortunately it usually means the doll gets to be an ultra-hooker custom tailored to whatever the client might possibly want. And since the Dolls have no personality of their own, they don’t have any say in what happens to them. To say that the Dollhouse is morally ambiguous is a massive, massive understatement. (To say that the series itself is problematic is also a massive, massive understatement.)

Claire Saunders was one of these Actives. Presumably something brought her to the Dollhouse and placed her in a position to sign away her identity for five years; however, as the character never looks for this information herself, the series also never details exactly who Claire was before she was a Doll. She adopted the codename Whiskey and, for a while, was the number one Active in the House. However, one of the other Actives in the House, Alpha, was jealous of Whiskey’s popularity, obsessing instead over another Doll he had deemed as being “special”: Echo. In order to make it so that Echo would be the number one Active, he heavily scarred Whiskey’s face and then (after a composite event that shoved several personalities into him) went on a killing spree, which included murdering the in-House physician. Whiskey survived these events but emerged terribly scarred, both physically and mentally. Faced with a broken Doll and a dead physician, the House decided to imprint Whiskey with a new, long-term persona: Dr. Claire Saunders, a physician devoted to keeping the Dolls safe.

Claire lived in the Dollhouse for several months like this, not even suspecting her former identity as Whiskey. This all changed when Alpha returned to House to kidnap Echo. He cornered Claire and asked her if she had always wanted to be a doctor. This caused Claire to question her identity for the first time. In the aftermath of Alpha’s attacks, her suspicions were confirmed: she was originally a Doll, with her identity as Claire Saunders being a constructed Persona. She lashed out against the programmer who had made her personality at first, seeking to provoke a reaction first by scaring him and then attempting to sleep with him. Ultimately, though, she recognized that hating the programmer was just an excuse; if she wanted to find an identity outside of being a Doll, then she needed to leave the Dollhouse. She did so, spending a few months in the care of Boyd … who turned out to be the semi-evil head of the Rossum Corporation. Oops. He was almost certainly responsible for taking her back to them, where she was imprinted with “sleeper” coding - a word or phrase that would compel her to carry out a specific task. Which meant killing a programmer inside the Dollhouse. She was later erased again, this time imprinted with an evil AI that was helping run the evil corporation trying to bring about the apocalypse. Long story short: the corporation failed in the short term but won in the long term, Claire was eventually returned to “her” body, and all hell broke loose. Claire is specifically being apped from sometime during the events shown in Epitaph One, but before giving up her Claire Saunders identity for good.

Personality:
For the most part, Claire is an exceedingly calm person. Her comments are deadpan 90% of the time, even if she’s expressing gentle concern rather than sarcasm. It’s rare for her to act out of rash emotion - she’s the type to carefully think things through if she has enough time to do so. In fact, she often thinks through scenarios using angles that some of her coworkers miss. She is always devoted to the welfare of her charges first, providing a much-needed balance to Topher’s amorality. (He designed her to fulfill that exact role, in fact. But details.) Despite her calm demeanor, however, Claire doesn’t hold up to certain kinds of pressure very well. Political or social pressure? Certainly. Physical or threatening pressure? Not so much. If sufficiently frightened, she will bend to the person (or thing) threatening her; the violence of the games will likely also be highly unpleasant until she can harden herself to them. Her behavior in games will be walking a thin line between the need to protect and the need not to get chopped up in a horrible murder game.

That said, Claire isn’t just calm and patient and sarcastic. Her calm exterior hides an interior that is very anxious, especially in the wake of all the identity crises following the revelation that she was actually a doll. She has quite a few phobias, including inabilities to deal with crowds, open spaces, pets, sunlight, etc. But even more than that, she finds herself adrift in a body that isn’t really hers, with a personality that was created by someone else - and yet she’s too afraid of dying to give it up. What mental recovery she made outside of the Dollhouse was broken down again by Boyd’s betrayal and erasing to make room for the evil AI. Her trust of anyone will be very low, even for those on her own team. She also tends to have bad coping mechanisms in general: trying to sleep with Topher, going off on another Doll with the same scars as her, being tempted to cut up Echo, etc. Ultimately, she views herself as being broken, without much to build her back into being an actual person again.

Writing Sample:
01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called? … that’s an important question, isn’t it. Dr. Saunders. Please.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform? I'd rather have something on my feet, if that's what your asking. Shoes are preferred.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking? That depends on what you define as “talking.” I speak with the Actives when I see them, of course. It comforts them to know that their physician cares about their wellbeing. But I wouldn’t say I have conversations with them either. Sometimes I go an entire week without speaking to anyone who can really speak back.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you? I work in an institution that is specifically designed to erase, modify and imprint people. What do you think?

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate? I’m really not very fond of animals. Egrets included.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery? I would be deeply concerned if anyone didn’t answer yes to this. With a few exceptions - I gave up being concerned for them a long time ago.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake? Just a plain plate is fine, thank you.

08. Do you trust yourself? I … I don’t know how to answer this. I don’t trust the person who made me, or the personality traits that he - he made me from. I have to second guess every thought I have, every word I say. But I can’t be anyone else either. Perhaps … perhaps refusing to let go is a lack of trust, when you get down to it.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed. I’ve hacked into the House mainframes a few times. Given out illegal amounts of prescription drugs. But considering the first was about information I had the right to access and the second happened after the world started to end … I think I can be excused.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you? … I’m not sure. I like to think they would, but I’ve disappeared before. It would probably be best if they didn’t.

Character Name: Kid Flash/Wally West
Canon: Young Justice (Animated) (coming from post-episode 21, "Image", so as to avoid end-of-season-one cliffhangers and such.)
Reference Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Young_Justice_%28TV_series%29

Character History: One day Wally West, your average superhero-obsessed thirteen year old, discovered that his Uncle Barry was secretly his idol, The Flash! So he did the rational thing, and figured out the chemical formula that had given Barry his powers, and then blew up himself and his parents' garage reenacting the experiment. One trip to the hospital and some recovery time later, he discovered it worked! He had become the fastest teenager alive. A little bit of begging and bothering, and the Flash agreed to make him his sidekick: Kid Flash!

After two years of sidekicking it up alongside other heroes his own age, Kid Flash thinks he's going to become a part of the Justice League. After the disappointing reality that no, that's not going to happen, he and his friends directly disobey their mentors and accidentally wind up rescuing a clone of Superman. Rather than dangling them off a building by their ankles, Batman rewards the the teens with a team of their own: a "covert" team of teenage superheroes, intended to operate secretly while the Justice League continued the heroic fight in the public's eye.

Only they all really suck at stealth, so they wind up targetted by a group of villains known only as "The Light", whose motivations are pretty unclear, other than having a serious hate-on for teenagers in spandex, and a general distaste for justice and order.

Personality: Wally is, as you would expect from a speedster, a very high-energy person. He's enthusiastic and energetic in all aspects of his life he enjoys. Having spent his entire life idolizing superheroes, he's always thrilled to be in the spotlight as a hero himself. Even when it may seem otherwise, he always takes his duties as superhero seriously.

Obviously, having the skills at age 13 to recreate a chemistry experiment that would give him superpowers, Wally is a gifted scientist. Science is the one thing, aside from superheroing, that he is most passionate about, and he thinks everything in life can be explained, one way or another, through science. This, of course, puts him at odds with some of his teammates whose powers are based more in the realm of magic, because he cannot stand the idea that people would brush off a chance for scientific explanation to just say "oh, it's magic." Though after his dealings with Nabu and the Helmet of Fate, he's changed his tone a little... not that he'd ever admit it to anyone, because that would mean admitting he was wrong.

For all that Wally is incredibly intelligent, he can really be something of a dumbass sometimes. He tends to have something of an ego problem (though sometimes it's to cover up his own insecurities. He is a teenager, after all), and he's not the most tactful person you'll ever come across. Unfortunately, his mouth tends to move even faster than his brain, especially when it comes to attractive ladies. He can definitely go overboard with his flirting, and even though he thinks he's being sweet and charming, it can leave people feeling awkward. On top of that, he can be kind of, well, a grumpy dick sometimes. Luckily, he's a generally likable guy, so his friends forgive his social short-comings. It helps that he's trustworthy and reliable, and will always, always have his friends' backs.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called? Kid Flash!
02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform? It helps keep my feet from chafing? So uh, yeah, I guess.
03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking? ....Does sleeping count as mandatory silence? I mean, it's not like I talk constantly, but uh...
04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you? Nnnno? That would be kinda nuts...
05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate? Hmmm... I dunno, maybe a giraffe? It'd be cool to have a pet with a neck that long, right?
06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery? No? I mean, I don't like it, but I'd be a pretty bad hero if I couldn't cope with seeing people upset.
07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake? Uh, basically anything? Hands included. What can I say? I like cake.
08. Do you trust yourself? Uh, yeah, of course I do.
09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed. I'm a hero, we kinda, by definition, don't commit crimes.

Buuuut I might've "borrowed" some stuff from my uncle once... If that counts?
10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you? Oh yeah, tons of people.

Character Name: Dick Grayson / Robin
Canon: Young Justice (TV)
Reference Link: Canon wiki / Character wiki

Character History:

Once upon a time, there was a happy little acrobat named Dick Grayson. He had a pretty great life, traveling from town to town with the circus and performing with his family as the youngest member of the thrilling acrobatic act, The Flying Graysons. Then one day his family was horribly murdered in front of him and he was adopted by a playboy billionaire whose only hobby was dressing up as a bat and punching the criminally insane.

It actually went surprisingly well. After losing his entire family at the tender age of nine, Dick - henceforth referred to by his codename, Robin - trained relentlessly to become a worthy sidekick, mastering acrobatics, martial arts, detective work, computer hacking, and more. Fast forward a few years: Robin and a group of other disgruntled teenage sidekicks decided that they’d had enough of living in the shadows of their mentors, and, with the Justice League’s eventual blessing, became a covert black-ops team, performing missions to hunt down assassins and intervene in political negotiations. You know, because that’s definitely something that emotionally volatile teenagers should be handling.

Personality:

Robin’s most notable personality trait is his cheerful demeanor. Despite the traumatic loss of his parents at a very young age, and the four years he spent fighting crime in Gotham (the city with the highest number of homicidal clowns per capita), he remains upbeat and perky in most situations. Always prepared with a wisecrack, bad pun, or creative new way to mangle the English language, Robin could maintain a conversation with a brick wall. Or Batman, which is pretty close to the same thing.

However, despite his apparent optimism, Robin has internal struggles of his own. A great deal of his self-worth is tied up in his abilities and the way other people see him. Because of this, he often struggles with issues of inadequacy, which he covers up by training even harder - sometimes to the point of pushing himself too hard. He’s also very possessive of the people he’s close to; there aren’t many of these, but he can be incredibly moody when he feels rejected.

Although he’s generally friendly, Robin tends to keep people at an arm’s length, by necessity rather than by choice. He’s an incredibly affectionate kid with painfully few opportunities to be close to people. He struggles constantly with his natural desire to surround himself with people, and the carefully-guarded secrecy that Batman instilled in him. Let’s just say he’s good at talking, but not so great at communication.

junpei (999) 1/2

[personal profile] unexpectedboner 2012-04-28 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Junpei
Canon: 9 Hours, 9 Persons, 9 Doors
Reference Link: official site | wikipedia (spoiler-filled and poorly-written) | picture

Character History:
Unexceptional student Junpei is just a few months away from college graduation when he's kidnapped and whisked off to a sinking cruise ship to take part in a 'nonary game'--a set of logic and number puzzles laced with explosives and wrapped in a ten year old revenge plot. Of course, he quickly gets distracted from the danger to his wellbeing when he runs into Akane, his best friend from elementary school, now a lovely and nubile adult. At this, he redoubles his efforts to get her out of the nonary game and/or out of her pants. After a series of confusing puzzles in increasingly creepy settings, real and supposed exploded people, endless exposition, and countless dumb quips, he is finally able to save Akane by transcending time and space to help her complete a sudoku puzzle. She rewards him by skipping the cruise ship (incidentally located in Nevada) without him, leaving him to chase after her forever.

Personality:
If you ask others about Junpei, you'll get glowing descriptions like 'oh, that loser?' or 'what a jackass' or 'he's kind of an idiot.' He himself would be the first to admit he's a fairly unremarkable guy; he likes girls and colorful vests and bad jokes, internal monologues and solving logic problems and punching walls. He is the kind of guy who isn't afraid of looking stupid, which is good since he often does. He's more a grunt than an idea man, he'll listen to extended theories on mutations and high-temperature ice while locked in a freezer, or theories on idea projection and shared consciousnesses while standing around a bathroom, but he rarely has much to add. That said, he has a surprising knack for figuring out math problems.

In general, He's no natural hero and about as far as you can get from a Jesus-type, but he's a generally friendly, good guy. ...Except when he does stuff like leave other guys to die so he doesn't have to separate from his not!girlfriend for 15 minutes. But that doesn't really count.

Echo - Dollhouse

[personal profile] fellasleep 2012-04-29 05:10 am (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Echo
Canon: Dollhouse
Reference Link: At the Dollhouse wiki!

Character History:
Echo's history, by and large, begins with Eleanor Penn. It's sometime during or shortly before the Cristejo engagement that Echo begins to become self-aware and remember bits and pieces of engagements. For example, at the end of 1x02 "The Target," she performs the gesture the client had when referring to his life mantra, 'shoulder to the wheel.' Before that self-awareness, she had been a doll, a fully-programmable 'person' who can be imprinted with different personalities for various clients of the Dollhouse. Often, she's imprinted for romantic engagements, where she's essentially programmed to love the client. On other occasions, she's imprinted with a task of some kind, such as 'protect the client at all costs' in the case of 1x03 "Stage Fright" or, in many romance engagements, to love the client above all else. However, early on, Echo displayed some signs of being 'special' in that she thought outside of the box in regards to those tasks.

When Alpha breaks into the Dollhouse for the first time, he ends up dumping all of Echo's imprints into her, trying to make a composite like himself. While she does become a composite of sorts, she doesn't adopt the same superiority complex as him; instead of seeing the extra minds as a reason to feel superior, she uses the extra skillets to help others. After defending her house multiple times from outside threats, Echo meets Bennett, an old friend of Caroline's who tortures Echo for that resemblance to Caroline. In the process of this torture, Bennett gives Echo a memory of Caroline, which triggers Echo's ability to control the imprints at will, albeit incredibly shakily at first. Shortly after, Echo escapes and hitch-hikes to Medina, Texas where she develops these skills further with the help of Paul Ballard. It's only three months, though, before she's brought back to the Dollhouse and faces the threat of Alpha again. However, her canon point is just before she enters the memory-wiping room of Topher's lab. As a reference, Echo will still get headaches if she tries to access too many things at once or too quickly.

Personality:
Separate from the 36+ imprints in her head, Echo does have her own personality that isn't just the innocent, child-like doll state. Instead, she's grown from that blank slate she was meant to be. At first, it was small things, recognizing others, but grew much more into a deep, unbridled passion to help others. She goes out of her way to help others who desperately need it, especially other Actives such as Victor/Anthony and Sierra/Priya. Another example is Joel Mynor, who Echo early on wants to finish her engagement with so he can have his happy ending as well as later on when she learns he's in danger. She respects many of the imprints lingering in her mind and, if she can, she'll fulfill their wishes, but not at cost to herself. Over time, Echo has developed a distinct sense of self-preservation This not only involves the ability to lie to the others' faces and altogether pretend she's still memoryless and blank but also worrying about what Caroline taking her body might mean. She knows what having Caroline might mean and, logically, she's a little afraid that it might mean the end of her (Echo).

However, this is not to say that Echo lacks assertiveness. She regularly faces down incredible odds with determination and ingenuity, especially once she starts to control the personalities better. When in danger, Echo's just as capable as witty one-liners as others and has learned over time other mannerisms such as the occasional sarcasm and a more and more developed sense of humor. Still, Echo is more serious and reserved than a wise-cracking, pun-wielding type. There's a time and a place for joking and Echo's time and place usual revolves around the company. If she's with someone (or someones) she trusts, she's more likely to make jokes and really be herself.

Writing Sample:
Sometimes remembering to breathe was the hard part. Cycling through personalities and letting them flow through her had slowly become easier and easier, but sometimes the essentials get lost in the mix. Come on, Echo she'd tell herself underneath the din of the extra voices all trying to talk at once, how could you forget how to breathe? Still, as Roma Klar clicked back into her place in the back of Echo's mind, Echo took a deep breath and straightened and pressed her hands around the digital lock on the door. Alright, she'd seen something like this before, shouldn't be too hard.

Looked like there was a place to pop open the box underneath if she could find something to pry it open with. Her fingers won't do the trick here. Quickly, she patted herself down, trying to find something possibly in the pockets of her uniform. Underwire, she'd used that before, she'd just need to get the underwire out without being ogled by any of her teammates. After all, she didn't know them, didn't know if she could trust them, but she knew she had to get them out of here. Seeing them hurt or seeing them in pain just made her feel almost incompetent. She could help them, she could save them from this place if she could find a way out.

For now, though, she needed to figure out the lock and get them to the next stage of the test in order to try and prevent any of them from getting hurt again; if she was fast enough, strong enough, then she could get the necessary points to survive here. Survival, it seemed so far, was the best they could really do so far.

"Keep an eye on the door and I'll get this open," she spoke quickly and effectively, no time for keeping up the innocent, blank state she'd been trying for the past couple weeks. She needed to get them out of there and, well, maybe the cat was out of the bag now, but their lives were more important than her secret. Maybe she could help more if they knew what she could do.

Character Name: Orihara Izaya
Canon: Durarara!!
Reference Link: Durarara!!

Character History: Once upon a time there was a very normal family. Alas, this was the normal family that decided to name their child the unique name of Izaya and ended up with a child who was just as unique. Since a very young age, Izaya had a strong interest in the people around him--to be more exact, he loved to watch them. This was how he would spend most of his free time until some weirdo decided to pester him into joining a biology club. It all changed, however, the moment said weirdo decided to jump in front of a knife intended for Izaya, not to save him but to impress some girl. Strangely enough, not only did Izaya claim responsibility for the stabbing, but he made sure to make the shanker’s life a living hell for ten years afterward.

When Izaya makes his way to Raijin Academy, he is very much a different sort of human observationalist who actively dabbles in people’s lives and affairs to watch how they will react. Instigating gangs wars and causing the volatile Heiwajima Shizou explode into rages are just a couple of examples of the things that he pulled in his high school career. Some time after university, Izaya follows the predictable career of being a pretty well-off informant. He spends most of his time selling information he’s gained through his network of various aliases. Izaya eventually takes an interest in the internet group calling themselves the “Dollars”, who allows anyone to become a member as long as they admit to being one if asked. More than this, he decides to take an active hand in the evolution of its leader while simultaneously instigating a three-way turf war all for some plot of his involving Valkyries and the head of a Dullahan.

Personality As a person, Izaya is obviously no saint. Since taking a more proactive role in gaining reactions from the people he claims to adore simply because they are human, Izaya takes on habits and hobbies such as trolling around on the internet and luring out suicidal people just to see if they really would go through with the deed. He is very much a cool and mercurial type of person who remains calm in most situations--sociopathic in the manner of not being able to relate to his fellow man normally but instead views himself as apart from them, often calling himself “the worst” there is. However, Izaya does also have a manic side to himself, most especially when celebrating the joy of witnessing something so very human in the people he pushes--whether it be predicted or completely a surprise. The exception to this being Heiwajima Shizou who Izaya has mutually loathed since the moment they laid eyes on each other.

He is very much an intelligent person, able to set up a Xanatos plot or two and watching all the pieces click into place. An example of this being how he sets up the “pieces” for the three-way turf war and watching as they tumble into each other until the conflict erupts in Ikebukuro. He often prefers to keep his hands clean of any direct interaction with his “pieces” (just a nudge here or there to get them moving in the intended direction) and observes the situation from a distance. Sometimes while also relaying to his assistant Namie where to move shogi, go, and chess pieces on a triangular board. While not a completely vain person, this concept of keeping his hands clean also extends to his own appearance, where he prefers to the more fashionable of things and often acts the part of the kindly senpai who wants to help his juniors with their troubles. The truth being, of course, that he could be purposefully steering them in a rather terrible direction.

Hmmm... does chatting on the internet count as talking, I wonder...

Not really plagued. I fully expect it. It’s all right if they do. It just means they care enough to bother with it~

Re: Sion Astal | The Legend of Legendary Heroes

[personal profile] madasahero 2012-04-29 06:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Character Name: Sion Astal
Canon: The Legend of Legendary Heroes
Reference Link:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legend_of_the_Legendary_Heroes

Character History:

Sion Astal is first and foremost the beloved King of Roland. Having had a first-hand experience of how much misery can be caused by war and incompetent rulers, Sion works hard and diligently to make of his Kingdom – and ultimately the world – a happy and peaceful place. For that, Sion will employ any means necessary: from sound policies and natural charisma to foul play and the most brutal violence. Always moving forward for the well-being of his people, Sion’s tough decisions and less than ideal Faustian pacts are progressively taking a toll on his sanity, health and soul. With his destiny-bound friends Ryner Lute and Ferris Eris, he is part of a convolved plot that has already given birth to four soft novel series (almost 40 published books and a 24 episode anime). It involves past lives, possession by godly selves, many versions of a puzzling creation myth and the (recurrent) end of their world.

As a price and a requirement to become the King of Roland, Sion is also possessed by his original self, so to speak. The Fallen Black Hero, or the Mad Hero Asruld Roland, as he is also known, is described as a god, a monster and as Destruction itself. The Hero has lived multiple incarnations as "Sion" and has been attempting to destroy/save the world and save himself and his best friend (the uber author god/demon/alien/thing Ryner Eris Reed) over and over and over, in a world that is destroyed every 1.000 years by Lovecraftian goddesses. The Mad Hero consumes Sion from the inside and merges with him, causing the kind of uninterrupted pain that makes one wish they were dead and giving him what could be described as a split personality. The struggle between Sion and the Hero is rendered even more hopeless by the fact that the two are essentially the same person and, these days, the merging is almost complete.

Personality: Sion is a pragmatist dreamer - a kind, selfless man with "a slight flaw in his character". The fact that he does whatever it takes to achieve the greater good - even trampling on his personal beliefs - is both an impressive skill and an inescapable curse, for he never loses sight or morally justifies what he is doing. Pragmatism X idealism, individual interests X collective needs, mature common sense X compulsive behavior, reason X emotions are permanent tensions in his characterization. Sion is always regretting his most morally questionable decisions even when cold reason tells him his choices were sound, and thus the friend is always at odds with the king and the legendary hero can’t agree with the flesh and blood young man. In other words, Sion is a walking allegory about the constraints of power and personal sacrifices made by remarkable rulers.

Sion has a terrible tendency to shoulder emotional burdens on his own. As a king of millions, he has been conditioned to believe - sometimes quite correctly - that EVERYTHING is his responsibility. His protectiveness of his people turns him into an impossible workaholic, who frequently decides against eating and sleeping. Most people don’t notice his internal conflicts, for the King has always a genuine pleasant smile, confident words and a slightly twisted, trollish sense of humor to share with his subjects. Under it all, there is still a boy who is afraid of ending up abandoned and unloved, a sensitive man burdened by terrifying doubts and a very low self-esteem, and that’s where his friends – and particularly Ryner - play a major role.

Sion is a people's person, and it is in people's love that he finds his real strength (canon will prove that this affirmation is quite literal). Sion pretty much thrives on positive CR and harmonious groups, while conflict makes him depressed and even ruthless if the occasion demands. The darker the scenario, the more likely he is to present a confident, aloof facade and take the tow of difficult choices. Usually he is friendly, warm and sometimes deliberately silly around people, but being a keeper of dark secrets, he is less likely to talk about himself and open up completely. Sion is an honest faker to not be taken at face value.

Since he is pretty much merged with his godly self and is no longer human, he is also more prone to adopt the Hero's mannerisms and way of speaking under stress. In his body and soul, the Hero carries the curse of the pain, hope and screams of entire populations of vanished worlds. It is implied that this is the reason behind Sion's depth of emotions and strong empathy. Also related: SION IS ALWAYS IN PERMANENT AND EXCRUCIATING PAIN, but conceals it from those around him.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Sion.
02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
It is my strong belief that life is more pleasant with warm feet.
03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
Sometimes I talk to myself.
04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
That has already been dealt with.
05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
A puppy or a horse. Though those are usually already domesticated, aren’t they? Well, perhaps a fox or a wolf, if I am allowed to ride the wolf.
06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
I do my best to help those who need it.
07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
A spoon. Purely as an example, I prefer cake batter.
08. Do you trust yourself?
Well, they say the Hero King cannot be wrong...
09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
I once told my friend I was stuck in my robes to persuade him to undress me. Is that a crime, I wonder?
10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
I happen to be a public figure.

Character Name: Kotomine Kirei
Canon: Fate/Stay Night
Reference Link: http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/Kirei_Kotomine

Character History: Kirei was basically a very nice pious boy who threw himself into religious studies. And then threw himself into working for the Church. And then threw himself into working as an executor for the Church. And then because his dad asked him to threw himself into being the pawn of Tohsaka Tokiomi in an epic Heroic Pokemon battle for the Holy Grail. Along the way he got seduced by an ancient King. This seduction began the path to self-discovery! It was just that Kirei's path of self-discovery was paved with fucking everyone else over. He and his ancient king romantic partner tried to get the Holy Grail (ultimate grant wishing device!) and instead just killed a lot of people.

But it wasn't a complete failure! They shacked up for ten years and then tried again to win their magical world destroying glory cup. Sadly it wasn't meant to be thanks to some meddling kids. Basically the next time the war for the Holy Grail comes around Kirei pulls a lot of strings and fucks around a lot and tries to unleash the All Evils in the world so he can ask it a question. Pretty much doesn't quite go as planned and he dies.

Personality: Kirei has been "deficient at birth". He gets joy from people's supreme unhappiness and basically finds no joy or satisfaction from people's happiness. Basically he has a giant boner for being a terrible person. For a good portion of his life (like 20 years) he tried really hard to be a good person. He repressed his sadistboner hard and lived by the principles of the Church. He denied himself any kind of pleasure and basically twisted his world view into PLEASURE=BAD. Then he got seduced by an ancient king. This started Kirei down his path of self acceptance.

In short, Kirei is a self-actualized awful person. Being awful isn't because he had some traumatic backstory or anything, he is just naturally awful! He can't really be made to be un-awful because being awful is his 'true heart' more or less.

After coming more into himself Kirei has mellowed out. He isn't as rigid as he used to be and even makes things such as facial expressions. He is generally 'polite' in a Captain Passive Aggressive way. He doesn't try to be nice so much as he acts within certain parameters that he considers acceptable for a given situation. He's not really a serial killer so much as someone who gives off the impression of being the guy who is pulling the strings. And, well, he has absolutely no qualms in feeding orphans to his boyfriend other people.

Luckily Kirei is also defined by being fairly passive. He's not really someone who runs around seeking misfortune so much as stacking it up when it comes around and continually moving forward to realize his 'answer'. His primary drive is trying to figure out if it is all right to live as he is a completely terrible person since the idea of his whole existence runs contradictory to his faith and upbringing.

But mostly he's just a passive aggressive dick that finds your suffering delicious.

Writing Sample:
01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Kotomine Kirei. That is my name after all. On the occasion you are looking for something more formal you could call me 'Father', but that might be awkward for some of you. And I would hate for us to start off with any awkward feelings between us.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
I do. Not only do socks protect your feet from chafing but they help minimize unpleasant odors as well.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
That's difficult to say, being a man of faith I've often found it more productive to hold my tongue. So, perhaps, a few days.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
No, I wouldn't say that. Generally people are somewhat unsuspecting and naive.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
I have to say I've never thought much about domestication, but I'm sure a caged lion would be charming.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
What an odd question. The answer would probably depend on what you consider 'functionally incapacitated.' Regardless, I'll be a good sport and say yes.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
I'm not a big fan of sweets, but if the company is right I'll say a knife and a fork.

08. Do you trust yourself?
What a question. Naturally. I'd be a poor priest if I didn't.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Ah, but once I share it then it immediate negates its value in response to this question, doesn't it?

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
Hardly.

Character Name: Vincent Nightray
Canon: Pandora Hearts
Reference Link: Pandora Hearts - wikipedia

Character History: Pandora Hearts is basically a story about monstrous Pokemon. In the Abyss, a chaotic void that exists outside time, "Chains" exist - monsters that can contract with humans. The story follows Oz Vesalius and his Chain B-Rabbit, or "Alice".
Vincent is one of the two adopted sons of the Nightray family, one of the four Noble Houses who are part of Pandora, the organisation that monitors the Abyss. He was adopted by the family at a relatively early age. However, the brothers in fact originated from one hundred years in the past, from the city of Sablier - which was annihilated. Vincent was, in fact, the cause of that event. Vincent and his brother Gilbert travelled through the Abyss to the future, where Vincent was brought up as nobility. After Oz got unceremoniously chucked into the Abyss, Gilbert was also adopted by the Nightray family.

In the present vein of the story Vincent works as a double agent - he is seen to be working for Pandora initially, however he is affiliated with the Baskervilles, the story’s “antagonists”. He bears two chains - he has a legal contract with the Dormouse, a chain that lets him put people to sleep and also gives him an unfortunate narcolepsy problem. He has an illegal contract with Demios, the Queen of Hearts, which is great at chopping off people's heads. Vincent's only tie lies with his brother Gilbert. As Vincent was a child of misfortune, born with one red eye which was seen in Sablier to be a terrible omen, they were mistreated and cast out on the street. In Vincent's eyes, he is the cause of all of the misery in Gilbert's life. His ultimate goal is to be completely removed from existence - to this end, he offers his loyalty to the Baskerville family.

Personality: On the surface of it, Vincent is the picture of a perfect gentleman - all good manners, sweetness and light, a charming and dignified young man, though usually more than a bit sleepy. Excellent at social functions! A real sweet talker. However, the more time you spend around him, the more you notice a dangerous, pervasive air having around him. Vincent is dangerous, cruel, twisted, and just a little bit unhinged. As well as slightly misogynistic. Everything he does has a point, however he thinks nothing of torturing someone to get what he wants, and he is ultimately ruthless and forthright in the pursuit of his goals. He isn't someone who will take the spotlight, preferring to work behind the scenes. And he keeps all of his secrets close to his chest, not even sharing them with his most important person, his brother Gilbert. He openly lies to Gil in order to conceal his true allegiances and motivations. He is also a chaotic, messy person with no particular shame - petty in his dislikes, he will happily cut up stuffed toys in order to vent any negative feelings. He will also fall asleep precisely wherever he pleases. His own state of self-loathing leads him to enjoy ruining people - tainting them and ruining their goodness.

Vincent is a layered person, however. At the heart of it, he is an individual who believes his existence has caused only suffering. All of his actions are to further his goal of completely removing his own existence from the face of the world. Beyond anything, he loves his brother Gilbert to the point of obsession, and would happily remove himself from the face of the world if that means his brother will find peace and happiness. So yes, underneath it all there is a person who does understand kindness. You just have to ... go down a really long way.

Writing Sample:

01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
Calling a person by something other than their name is rude, isn't it ... ? Vincent Nightray is my name.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
. . . I'm ambivalent on the topic of socks. Is that wrong? Should I be considering all these questions important?

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
I couldn't possibly calculate it. Speaking is hardly something that bears any scrutiny . . . isn't it true that a person will speak when they feel they have something to say? Whether the thing that's being said has any worth . . . that's up to the listener ♥

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
Oh, come now . . . that would be the the blight of a very paranoid and untrusting person. I cannot imagine being the kind of person that would admit to experiencing such thoughts about beloved family and friends . . .

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
I never said I wanted to domesticate an egret. It's very rude to put words in someone's mouth.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
Is there an appropriate and an inappropriate answer to this question . . . ? Ah, I don't really mind. Sometimes these things are . . . how would one say it? An unfortunate necessity?

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
Mhm . . . manners dictate a three-pronged cake fork. Though you could feel free to partake in an act of rebellion and use a fork with four prongs. Go ahead, go ahead. No one will mind.

08. Do you trust yourself?
Of course. No matter what the situation, I know exactly what I would do.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
Hmmm. Know that I answer this question with some consideration: . . . no ♥! What is the point of a secret, if you're prepared to just give it away to anyone?

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
Well, if that's what you're interested in . . . I'm sure we'll find out.
