CONTACT/TEAM PREFERENCES

A comment separate from your app with your name, email, and team preferences. Making it a separate comment lets us keep it screened, thus keeping your team preferences private.

For the time zone field, feel free to make a note if working bizarre hours makes you effectively on a different time zone than stated.

"Team preferences" is a catch-all field for any thoughts you might have regarding your character's placement. For example, you might want a team that will put up with your character's sociopathy, or has a certain "feel" to it, or is friendly to your time zone, or maybe you don't think your character looks good in orange, and so on! This is also the spot to let us know if there are teams you DON'T want to be on. While you're not required to put anything here, don't say you have no preference unless you really, honestly have NOTHING to say on the subject! If you've already apped and realized you'd forgotten something? Make another comment!

Character Name: Spock
Canon: Star Trek (2009 movie version)
Reference Link: link

Character History:
Born on the planet Vulcan, Spock was raised like any other Vulcan child, trained to live by only reason and logic and the repression of emotions. The only difference was that Spock was only half Vulcan. The other half—due to his mother—was human, a race that Vulcans viewed as illogical and impulsive. With this damning fact, Spock was faced with constant challenges both from his peers as well as himself, trying to find his place in the universe. His struggles eventually found him at the top of his class and before the Vulcan Science Academy for admission. Spock turned down this prestigious position, however, when his human heritage was claimed as a "disadvantage." He then joined Starfleet Academy, graduated, and went on to become a commander, serving aboard the USS Enterprise under Captain Pike.

Answering a distress call from Vulcan on the maiden voyage of the Enterprise, the ship warped into a trap which would cause both Captain Pike to be taken prisoner as well as the destruction of Vulcan. With only minutes to spare, Spock beamed to the surface to save his planet's elders—only to lose his mother right in front of him. Dismayed, Spock fought to suppress any emotion he felt and continued his command of the ship ... until James T. Kirk coerced him to show rage by accusing him of never having loved his human mother. And boy, did Spock rage. Realizing he nearly killed Kirk, he resigns his command due to being emotionally compromised.

After some minor emo and a heart-to-heart with his father on the merit of emotions, Spock returned to the bridge, back and ready for action. Working with the now-Captain Kirk, the Enterprise defeated the Romulans and saved Earth. All in a day's work of a pointy-eared Starfleet officer.

Personality:
Viewed as cold and emotionless by humans and others alike, Spock relies on logic and reasoning for all of his decisions. Outwardly, it doesn't seem like he's affected by emotions such as anger, affection, excitement, sadness or anything of the sort. Because of his childhood on Vulcan, Spock strived to honor Vulcan tradition to suppress or think past all emotional influence with rigid emotional self-control through extreme mental discipline. But Spock had his work cut out for him being half human, a race known for irrational choices and impulsive actions. Through training, Spock succeeded to repress his emotions ... for the most part.

This doesn't mean that Spock is unfeeling. On the contrary, Vulcans are a very emotional race, despite many Vulcans claiming otherwise. Even full Vulcans have moments of emotional outbursts, and Spock is no different. He comes to care for Uhura during their days at the Starfleet Academy, though he does keep his relationship with her somewhat secret. When Spock loses his home planet and mother, he himself claims that he is angry enough to kill, going so far as to attack Kirk when goaded.

Spock is also highly intelligent, as evidence of him being the Chief Science Officer of the Enterprise. He is quick-thinking and always comes up with multiple options even in a hopeless situation. This also gives him confidence and a commanding presence aboard ship ... as well as often coming across as a know-it-all bastard to some of his peers and lower ranking officers. But this attitude towards him does not stop him from being loyal to his crewmates and protecting them no matter what.

Writing Sample:
01. If given a choice, what would you like to be called?
My name, preferably. If you are also referring to my Starfleet rank, it would be Commander Spock.

02. Do you require socks to be part of your uniform?
The majority of uniforms throughout Human history have required as much, though they were not necessary on Vulcan due to the native climate. However, they would be an asset should I find myself in extreme conditions.

03. Not including mandatory periods of silence, what is the longest you have gone without talking?
Ignoring standard schedules of meditations, the greatest period I've experienced was approximately twenty Earth days during my childhood.

04. Are you plagued by suspicions that other people, including coworkers and relatives, may be doing things behind your back that will hurt you?
I do not have emotional insecurities such as you describe or of any nature.

05. Other than a large egret, what wild animal would you like to domesticate?
None at this time.

06. Are you functionally incapacitated by witnessing other people's misery?
Vulcans, as a matter of custom and policy, all emotional influence by living lives of rigid emotional self-control through mental discipline. As such, while witnessing misery is unfortunate, it does not impede my abilities.

07. What is your favorite flatware for, purely as an example, eating cake?
Assuming the cake if of the Human confection, a fork would be most practical.

08. Do you trust yourself?
I am fully aware of my own abilities, as well as my limitations.

09. Please list a crime that only you would know that you have committed.
I have confessed all crimes that I have committed in the past and resigned myself for disciplinary action for such crimes.

10. If you disappeared tomorrow would anyone miss you?
I would imagine so.
